  • Australia has always been on our bucket list. But rather than saving up money and blowing it all on the trip of a lifetime, we figured out how take a 3-month vacation down under and actually come home $26,000 RICHER than the day we left!
While a combination of clever travel hacks helped us save money on vacation, income poured in from an array of passive investments and a small amount of freelance work.
In this video, we reveal our entire 3-month Australia travel budget, broken down by spending category, and exactly how much money we made through side hustles and investments along the way.

Does the tip about ordering the ingredients for burgers a la carte also work for Burger King and McDonald's in America?

Great video with a lot of useful figures, data, info and explanation.
It must have taken a good bit of time and effort to produce the video, so thanks.
Only thing I would say was missing, seeing as you touched on things like investment gains, was the cost of inflation on your wealth during the period. Not necessarily easy to do as everyones personal inflation rate is different but this would have then given a totally complete picture. Or at least a mention to bear it in mind as people often forget/its impact.
Hope the video gets lots of views as it deserves!

Thanks for saying so! Actually, this was by FAR the most time we've ever spent on a single TH-cam video, so we really appreciate you noticing. Feel free to share! 😁
Inflation definitely has some impact, and you're right that it's not included in this analysis, but over a 3-month period, it's not typically a very significant effect, since inflation only averages about 3% per entire year. During this specific 3-month trip, the change in US CPI was +1.68%, which is around 6.8% on an annualized basis (above average) - but still not a gigantic impact on the overall numbers here.

@@TripOfALifestyle thanks for the reply. With the cost of inflation, don't you need to take account of it not on what you spent on the trip but it's impact on your entire net worth. So although the % figure might be small, if you have a 7+ figure net worth, it can be a large $ amount.
Not saying it is going to massively change the trips figures, just something that I thought was missing from an otherwise very comprehensive video.
Compared to the normal vacation this trip was a great example of how savings can be had by having the freedom of FI. As well as the time to relax and fully enjoy the trip rather than cramming in everything in a week or two.
Keep up the great content 👍

@@C4sp3r123 Yep, you are correct. That is exactly how the math works. However, your investment gains also scale with the size of your portfolio, so as long as you keep the vast majority of your wealth invested at all times, it is possible to combat the effects of inflation (in the long run) with any size portfolio.
In our case, we were definitely still positive after accounting for inflation, but you're right; it would have been an interesting thing to talk about in the video!
