    I skimmed ventriloquism many years ago when I got a doll. Now, I'm here learning it as a haunted attraction scare actor so my character can talk without moving her mouth. Thank you for this, it has been a challenge for years.

    You make Monkey's voice actually sound like Nine Conti's Monkey. Brilliant! I also find the D easier than the G. Thanks for sharing the tip.

    I literally started today to practice and hopefully become a ventriloquist. Or something like that, you never know what will happen. I found your idea to use a G sound to get a B very helpful and interesting. It’s a little different than what I’ve learned so far. But I really appreciate your perspective.

    Clicked on it because of the cute orange puppet, was not disappointed 😃 Man, that little buddy is cute. Also, I like that you gave the option between the 2 letters.

    Super helpful, and all of your puppets are adorable. Immediately thought of Nina Conti when monkey came out so I’m glad you reference her too. Easiest like and subscribe ever! Thank you for this ✨

    Thanks you so much, I had been wondering about these techniques because as a linguist this is fascinating stuff.
    I reckon this works because of two things: 1. Because of priming, with the context (like holding a basketball) we let our brains think we hear /b/. And 2. Because of puppets almost always have funny voices, so we are a lot less likely to mind if they say a sound funny.

    • @ModdyPuppets
      @ModdyPuppets  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh that’s such an interesting take! Yes, I guess the funny sounding voices ARE more forgiving, now that you mention it 👍

    ☺️ I don’t know if it would scare people but an interesting addition could be a half mouth puppet. Both a hand and rod puppet you could use it when you do the demonstration of how to make the sound using the mouth and tongue.

    I used to practice it as “The boy bought a basketball.” I learned that from Jimmy Nelson.

      I still remember most of those from Jimmy Nelson’s “Instant Ventriloquism” course, even though I was just a little boy back in the 60’s! They’ve stuck in my head all through the decades:
      Please play the piccolo
      The boy bought a basketball
      Veal and venison
      Many men make money
      If good fortune follows a fellow, he’s fine
      When we work we win.

      My first puppet is made out of literal garbage so don’t worry about having a fancy puppet 😉 The best puppet in the world can’t make up for a bad performance. A great performance, on the other hand (pun intended) can be done with no puppet at all. Check out Celia Munoz, if you haven’t already 😊

    Great homage to Nina and Monkey. Ha! Was it hard to find Monkey or is he just a standard puppet?! I thought I heard Nina saying she was worried when she lost Monkey one time. Maybe he’s become more popular now? But my guess is that professional ventriloquists avoid using others’ main puppet in routines. Is that true? Thanks!

    • @ModdyPuppets
      @ModdyPuppets  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      lol. Thanks! Nina’s amazing. Such an inspiration. Yes, I would never claim Monkey as my own character. I was able to get my hands on this monkey, though you’re right, they are hard to come by. I’m hoping if I take care of it one day Nina will contact me and use it in her act 😆

    Did you know? That ventriloquism is actually a branch of magic. So ventriloquists are essentially magicians who specialize in ventriloquism.

    • @ModdyPuppets
      @ModdyPuppets  10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      While there is certainly an element of misdirection in ventriloquism, I can assure you the success of the illusion is all about the effort you put into practicing and honing the skill. No magic involved 😉
