The .22lr is grossly underrated by people who didn't grow up using it. Not loud, zero recoil, but if you put that little pill where you need to, it punches waaaaay above its weight.
Yep. When it comes down to it, just about everything comes down to shot placement. The bigger cartridges are just more forgiving if you're not spot-on.
The 22 lr is a versatile firearm and cartridge. A 500 rd box of .22lr weighs about the same as a 25 rd box of shotgun shells. It makes a great survival firearm and is capable of self defense and can deliver lethal damage.
You know, back in the day, folks weren't as "educated" as they are these days. Had to live by their wits more than the "ism's" they're taught today. I've heard the same stories when I was a little guy. Grandfather was a very young man in the Montana territory. Took loads of game with the .22 before 1900. Knowing the anatomy is a plus. With the correct angle just about anything that walks crawls flies or swims can be taken when a .22 is wormed into the brain thru the eyeball. At least that's what I've been told for many a decade. Never had the need to try personally
You're actually bragging about that? Don't misunderstand. I have hunted for decades. But if I would have ever "road hunted", I certainly wouldn't broadcast it on the internet, for anti-hunters to see.
Ron. I have recently got into HPA/PCP rifles. They are powered by high pressure air and are much more accurate than any firearm can be. I love marksmanship with air guns. Pellets/slugs are cheap and air is free, if you have the right compressor or pump.
Yeah, but a poor choice for most survival situations. 22s don’t run out of air, you don’t need to recharge them , there’s few parts to break, and you can carry a LOT of ammo easily. Air guns have a place, but 22s are useful pretty much any place. They really are the “ Swiss Army knife “ of firearms.
Excellent. Everyone that is not familiar with the story of the woman in canada that defended herself against a 1600 lb grizzly bear with a single shot 22lr while out picking berries should look that one up. They have that bear mounted somewhere, i think maybe the yellowknife airport? Anyway, it's a quick, good bear story.
She was A Cree Lady named Bella Twin, the bear was shot near Slave lake Alberta a couple hours North of Edmonton. She Shot it above the right eye after it surprised them while out on their trap line.
Not a lot people are aware you can use a barrel sleeve insert converting a 22 magnum to a 22lr So you can shoot both 22 lr and 22 mag out of the same gun .
Yes Sir overall there's nothing better. Well just about ever cente fire is better in one hand but in that old arthritis broken knuckle cut up scratched out ole mechanic/welders hand it can't be beat. And if it bug out, shtf Type deal you can probably find few or a box or two in old barns , farmhouse, any ole country boys home. The best for the job .Lord no ,will it work y sure shot placement and accuracy lastly know ur equipment. Know how it likes to be held and cerest in action. If it wasn't for the lack of reliability of the mass production of ammunition, it would be a great choice. It's not my first choice for the SHTF situation.
Yeah, but I can't afford to go out and blast through 1500 rounds of that stuff every weekend. It's actually too much power for most small game applications really. Unless you have no interest in eating it.
It really is a gem especially when it comes to price! Me and the wife can go shoot 500 to 1000 rounds at some targets then go out for a nice meal afterwards. Couldn’t afford groceries if I bought and shop that much of almost anything else 12 gauge isn’t bad but that’s still 80 bucks for 100 shells here
People think I’m crazy because I have 30,022 long rifle rounds they’re like why do you need that many 22 what are you gonna do with it and I literally respond fucking everything

My break open pellet gun got more Puff !! Than a 22 LR,, 1475ft a second 😅
@@jeff0nyschuk670now show me some 100 yard groupings then we’ll chat!

Your absolutely right and the key is Growing up with one and knowing what it's capable of.
"First and Last". Wise words.
Agreed
I agree 100% everyone should own a pistol and a rifle in 22 long rifle
Spomer's videos kinda reminds me of Mutual of Omaha's Wild Kingdom, but with hunting , and firearms.
Keep up the excellent work Mr. Spomer!
I loved that show!
Damn I miss Wild Kingdom
@@roydunn4649 Wild Kingdom can be seen on TH-cam now. I like the episode where the grizzly bear is wrangled with a laso.

You are right on on this one Ron. Totally agree!!👍👍👏
Definitely my pick if i only had one to pick.. i can carry enough ammo for 5 years in my BOB and not break a sweat.
People make fun of it, but I don't think any of them would volunteer to be shot by it.
Well said Mr Spomer love the channel the podcast and the round!!!!
I agree 💯
At one time the world record grizzly bear kill that was held for like 20 plus years was with a 22 bullet
Thanks Ron…I cannot agree with this….more than 110%😂
Can’t be denied. He’s right
My great grandmother used to take moose with a .22 short

I completely agree !!!
Me too! Herd of a guy that potted a few " Black Deaths" with one .22.
Agreed Ron
So well said.
Fully agree.
Alberta record grizzly was killed by a native woman with a .22 short. Thing was huge!
Road hunted with 22 rifle back in the day. Took many !

Yup seen the little .22 and hide at the royal alberta museum in Edmonton Alberta a while back.
Always can feed yourself and protect yourself with a 22lr

I wouldn't say last catrige, but definitely the first.
Correct!!!!
Check local laws regarding harvest of game animals with a rimfire cartridge
❤
I agree but judging by that casing that definitely doesn't look like weatherby brass
In Canada you cannot legally hunt big game with a .22
end of story
A ten 22 can drop anything in the right hands just might take full mag
In America everyone has 1-15 guns (22) and billions of bullets.
Well, that is completely false.
It’s all about shoot placement
Surprised the .22 trolls aren't writhing around in the comments wreaking havoc😂
Ammo is all so light wt. You can carry a lot. Does not weigh you down.
I agree I can carry five times the amount of shells of AR for survival
Glad I stockpiled bricks when they were $12😊😅 lots-O-bricks
