    I have had ghost notes haunting me for the last 20 years on my electric Roland Kick. THe bouncing has been driving me crazy. I have tried taping buffers in between the beater and the head but nothing worked. Your instructions were PERFECT. It took me about a 1/2 hour to dial it in but now its better than ever! T

    Your final point is really important there. I think what some people forget is that the kick drum is still a drum and the principles of technique are at the end of the day the same as all drums. The rebound is the drummer's friend and will allow playing with greater complexity (if this is what one wants). Burying the beater is definitely satisfying in the same way smashing an object with a sledgehammer is, but that personal satisfaction is all it really accomplishes. I'm mostly an acoustic player, but you've given me yet another reason to avoid burying my beaters.

    • @65Drums
      @65Drums  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Dennis Malamut I'm not against burying the beater, but it's just tougher to get the right trigger response that way.

  • @Werner-bq9hs

    thanks for the final tip " a pillow behind the mesh drum" I tried all adjustment before but it didnt work) then I put a quite big pillow in my 18" bass drum" 75% was filled touching and damping the trigger mesh head (double layer)... well the difference is amacing, so yes even with a mesh head , the mesh head need to be damped! that really works !

    Hey Justin, nice video, since this is a problem i have been messing around with for quite some time i would like to add my findings:
    If you have a kickdrum with a mesh head it might also help to increase the tension of the mesh head way beyond level you would normally tension it on a acoustick kick, it does not affect the sound anyway. A softer beater like the one from drumtec also helps avoiding dual triggers (an decreases noise which is always nice). Finally adding a drum-tec Protection Dot on my mesh head where the beaters hit it also helped quite a bit.

    • @65Drums
      @65Drums  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Tom van Wijk True about the tension especially. I forgot to talk about that

    • @RcKDrUmm3R
      @RcKDrUmm3R หลายเดือนก่อน

      Tension does not help when you bury the beater. A tighter head means more bounce then when the head is loose and has more give to it. The beater won’t bounce back as much when it is loose

    Nice! ...The bit about the acoustic kit skin having more flex gave me a clue.... I checked the tension on my mesh head and boom! it was sloppy as. Tightened up the mesh and double-trigger gone! Chers Bro!

    Hi Justin,
    Again I can't begin to tell you how impressed I get, every time I watch your videos. I am new to E-drums and your channel has been my go-to channel for all things e-drum related (see what I did there ;-)
    That said, I need some guidance, I do have a custom Diamond e-kit with a 22inch bass drum and I use a double pedal. I did adjust the trigger position a little to the side of the bass drum and it gives me amazing results for the main right foot pedal, however, my left foot sound is almost dead. I tried tightening the mesh heads, which I thought could help but I am still struggling to get a balanced output/sound or even close to what my main right foot pedal sounds like. Do you have some tips/tricks that I can apply to fix this issue? I am using the Pearl Mimic Pro and although I am absolutely new to the module, I have a feeling it definitely has some settings that can help me with get a better trigger output. Any suggestion/guidance will be highly appreciated.
    Thanks'
    Sam..

I've got my external studio monitors go in L mono and a sub as well & extra speaker behind me but for some reason I cannot get the bass drum to sound as loud as the Tom snare and crash and I hope this advice will help that you gave me about the threshold unfortunately it doesn't have the mask feature only threshold so I will work with that thank you for your insights...

    I had this issue on my Alesis Strike Pro as I was used to burying the beater any of the rare instances I've played an acoustic set. Just upping the threshold slightly (as you described) until it was no longer an issue did it for me.
    Before I figured that out though, I set my bass pedal beaters back a bit farther and cranked the spring tension to maximum in order to get the beater to pull away from the head as much as possible and simply tried to no longer bury the beater. So now I don't bury the beater as much, but I still kept the threshold settings just in case I do here or there.
    Peace.

    I have a Roland TD-50X that I’m using to control Superior Drummer. The Threshold, Mask Time and Retrigger Cancel settings don’t seem to apply to the midi notes being sent into Ableton…only the local control. Is this normal? Is there another setting in the drum brain for double triggering of MIDI notes in Ableton or is that something I have to fix inside the DAW?

    I converted my Ludwig beats drum set into a triggered electric set. My problem is that I broke the bass head on my first try playing it, and then I switched over to a 16” double ply head from a Roland. I haven’t broken it yet, but I’m wondering if I should put some type of padding where the beater hits. Maybe like a mouse pad? Do you have any suggestions? Not even sure what I would use to stick a pad on my head - glue? Double sided tape?

    Hi ,
    I recently found an electronic kit out the front of a house that was throwing them away so I took them, it has cymbals with leads to plug in plus there is a snare drum pad about 12' .
    My question was can the triggers in them be taken out and customised to work with the EAD10 ? Let's say I took the triggers out of the cymbals say , is that even possible ?
    I hope you understand what I'm trying to say.
    How about the snare pad , that should have trigger inside of it.
    I want to see if I can put them on my kit via EAD10 ?

    Thanks. I'm having double triggering on my High Hat (Roland TDK19VK...X or something) when closed. I'm still pretty new (2 years) and not too technical. I'm worried it might be the big plastic lump under the HH that detects the HH being closed, is broken. It suddenly started happening 2 days ago from 'nothing'. Checked the plugs and gave them a rub. Also moved the wires around a bit. I'll have a go with some of these trigger settings tomorrow, to see if I can turn it down with settings - even if it turns out there's something KO with the hardware (it's only a year old but it does get heavy use every single day but... it is a Roland - I shouldn't be able to break anything, right!?) that might get me through for a few days. Thanks! # :)

    Excellent food for thought having just had my Roland TD17 for a few days. I have a couple of other queries if you wouldn't mind? I have correctly formatted an SDHC card with compliant samples but when I try to 'assign' them they suffer from latency and yet when I 'preview' the samples they are fine. I'm also getting random loud distorted hits from my KD85, even after using your solution for the double triggering, thanks.

    Great video, Justin. Excellent stuff .. again(!).. for a guitarist turned novice e-drummer like me. Question .. Should shifting the beater off-centre (US -center!) on a bass drum pad similar to the one on your left achieve a similar result? I don't want to damage the kick pad, but I've tried a variety of methods, including shaft weights to reduce multi-triggering, but neither these, nor the relatively limited menu provision (no 'Mask Time' on the Alesis Crimson) seem to help.
    Grateful for your advice, cheers.

    • @65Drums

    • @rob_in_stowmarket_uk
      @rob_in_stowmarket_uk 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      65 Drums 65 Drums Yes, 'Threshold', 'Sensitivity' and 'Retrig Cancel', but careful adjustment of these parameters seems to have limited, if any effect.
      I must admit that it's probably due as much to poor technique as any shortcoming in the kit, but annoying nonetheless.

      Rafael Alvarenga This was one of the reasons I traded in my dm6 for the Alesis surge which has a mesh kick pad... well, retriggering continued even on the surge. One common factor on both kits (for me) was burrying the beater. I know this kinda off topic, but what would be the problem with just putting regular acoustic heads on edrums. Seems they would help protect the internals (especially in the Alesis Strike drums) better than mesh

      Triggering real acoustic heads is a nightmare. I've tried it, and there is a ton of false triggering

      65 Drums thank you, I wont be doing that then. I’ll try raising the tension. It all just seems the drums heads are smushy out of the box.

      The noise also. Much louder than mesh.

      Lower the re-trigger cancel, or mask time setting for that pad.

    Hey Justin, I just wanted to know if you think its weird that I set up my drum kit to where the snare is a bit to the left but I move the hi hat to the right so I don't play beats with my arms crossing. I just wanted to know if you think that's weird.

      +ejswanson25 I don't place it like that, but set it up however you want :)

    I've been working with an e-drum like since 4 years ago and you're still saving me from trouble to this day. I've been having trouble with the double triggering with my alesis dm10. It has the threshold parameter and then a velocity curve parameter. Please help, I'm actually the guitar player of the band lol

    • @JoolsGuitar
      @JoolsGuitar 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Never mind. I found a 'retrigger' parameter that was in 0. I turned it up to 50 and the problem seems to be solved. Awesome video, thx a lot

    Actually if Im using my pearl single pedal is fine, but if I put my DW5000 double pedal thats the time Im having double trigger. I tried to adjust the setting on my TD 20 but it is actually the beater that bounce multiple. Even I tried to flip on the plastic side of beater. So Im planning to get different double pedal instead and sell my DW5000. Maybe its not meant for electronic drum. What do you think?

    Hey Justin..i tried your methods and it doesn't really help..unfortunately on the alesis crimson kit you don't have mask time so threshold and retrigger cancel ain't enough..what can i do? Also I'm having problems with the hi hat as well cause it's a stand

    • @65Drums
      @65Drums  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      yeah Mask Time and Retrigger Cancel is in the TD27. When you don't see it in a roland module, that's usually because there's an extra tab you have to click on for the more advanced settings. The manual explains it all

      @@65DrumsThe Efnote 3X doesn’t have mask time or retrigger cancel, as far as I can tell - and messing with the threshold or sensitivity only makes the drum harder to play, but doesn’t actually prevent the double triggering. 😢 Even with the threshold at maximum, the double triggers still happen.

    What if there isn't ghost notes? Meaning the sensitivity aren't the issue.
