You'd was so helpful. I have spent four years trying to understand why my loop stoma looks so different from my closed ended friends. Mine looks like a regular stoma but with a blob on the side... exactly like your first example. The question is how do you properly fit an appliance? Fitting a closed stoma looks so much easier. Thank you so much

Thank you Joy. Should the wafer be cut to fit both stoma’s in a loop iliostomy, because the unfunctioning one retracts when lying flat? I’m trying to prevent leaks & think if I just cut to fit the working one, then the other May push out & compromise the seal.

Do they stitch your loop stoma. Because I’m wondering how the stoma stays in place after they remove the rod. Also what if you never get it reversed or choose not to and you have a loop stoma does that change anything as far as the longevity of the stoma if it’s a loop and you never get it reversed

The visual aid you’re using is appreciated, but it should be used as an adjunct to maybe having a few diagrams on half the screen while you’re explaining on the other half so we can see act
how this visual aid specifically relates to an actual organ?

Hi, if you dont want to reverse a loop stoma, can you leave it, or do you have to change it to an end stoma to make it permanent?

Hi I don't know if you had an answer to your question so I thought I shall share my understanding... I believe that there are many people who lives happily with loop stoma for many years and yes you can if you want to stay with it. However sometimes/or if loop stoma proves difficult to care for e.g. if its too liquid or there are other medical need then you might need additional surgery to bring out another more usable stoma. this new stoma doesn't have to be end stoma all the time, but yes they can bring the end stoma back as well. However remember they use your end stoma to form a J pouch so reversal of J pouch is a serious operation and the end stoma they bring back out may not function as well as the 'virgin' end stoma that hadn't undergone a major operation i.e. J pouch surgery to start of with. I hope that makes sense and that i haven't confused you further. and before any operation please talk to your surgeons and stoma nurses and understand the procedures involved as you will be making a very important decision regarding your health.

Please answer me, my cousin has done loop ileostomy, initially all the poo is collected in his stoma bag which is placed on his right side. Sometimes He might pass the mucus through the Anus. After 6 months, for a week now, he is telling the output in the stoma is reduced and he sees the food pieces along with the mucus passes via Anu’s. These days he reduced his food intake as he feels the urge to go to toilet immediately. Anyone has these issues and tell me what causes this problem all of a sudden. Doctors are not explaining to him and he is in fear. Please help
