Wanna know something funny? I named her in that moment!! I got to the bottom of my paper and realized I forgot to come up with her name before recording. But that’s her name now: Marguerite 🥳
Monique made high quality doll wigs ($$$) especially for ball jointed dolls. They went out of business a few years back. Billy is so adorable. It is to me amazing that one face mold can have so many different looks and personalities!
It’s a surprise and a shame they didn’t stick around. I feel like it’d be impossible to find a wig like this now. The way it’s styled!!!! You’re right about the molds. He looks completely different just by giving him blond hair 😳
I’m obsessed with Heather! She really sticks out amongst the crowd. She looks like she would fit right into a John Hughes movie! Of course, the other customs are also gems ❤
Thank you! I really love how she turned out, so I’m glad she stood out to you 🥳 I see her the same way! If there wasn’t already a character named Molly…
Monique is/was Monique Trading Company. I don't know everything they sold (I've forgotten) but they had a lot of boy's wigs. And boy's shoes (and shoes and wigs for all kinds of dolls not just 18" dolls). They went out of business, probably 5 or 6 years ago (before Covid, I think). When they did they put everything on sale and I bought a lot of the boy's shoes, black and two different shades of brown, because I knew that I would be making some custom boy dolls in the future. Of course, the shoes aren't as nice as the AG ones that come with the Harry Potter set or the Christmas outfits but they are nice shoes for boy dolls for dress up. The soles are foam not hard plastic. That is common with off brand shoes. I also bought several boy wigs. Two different shades of red (like "carrot" and "auburn"). A couple of black ones, three gray or white short haired wigs for elderly dolls and maybe a brown and a blonde. I put one of the black ones on a Kaya doll and made a boy. I current;y have 5 of the 7 AG boy dolls (plus 2 #75 when they went on sale for $65 to customize one) and altogether about 12 boys. Quite a little crowd. I like the gray eyes in TM #77 but I'm not going to change his eyes. I like seeing custom dolls. Ones done by the owner not the expensive AG CYO ones. Thanks for showing them.
Oh wow you had the info!!! I’m so glad you saw this video to share all that. If I ever talk about Onika again, I’ll try to relay some of it. You must’ve gotten great wigs out of the sale, because this one is amazing! I’ve never seen anything like it. Swapping eyes is hard!!!! But once you try it, it’s worth the pain lol. Not that I’m suggesting it! Just saying I’m surprised I took the plunge.
This was awesome, thank you for sharing! I love your customs and the bits of your stories you shared about them. My favourites are Onika, Heather, and Lupe. Apparently I'm obsessed with short hair and bangs - aka, something that American Girl doesn't give us very often. I also love Blossom and her whole vibe. I love the language detail about Darshini - so many of my dolls speak multiple languages, and I appreciate that you think of those details, too. Marguerite is adorable and I think her hairstyle is awesome. Your channel being a bit of time capsule is an interesting way to look at it; rather than just being a content producer, it's also a way to look back on your journey. (Also, I'm sorry that TH-cam kept yelling at you about your video on Heather - that sucks, and I'm sorry that not as many people saw how cute Heather turned out!)
Haha I was going to say, you might like short hair because it’s so rare to see! I feel the same. I do love love hair too though. I like it all… clearly 🥴😆 I’m glad you got to see them all! I wish I had mentioned in the video these are all “doubles” aside from TM120, because I love the original of each doll too. Oh, and I don’t see myself as a content producer at all. I’m literally just talking about my doll collection like some proud grandpa
I also just wanted to say that I love your stories, it really inspires my doll stories! I feel like there’s not a lot of AG collectors that come up with layered stories! ❤️
There are so many great characters in this video ❤ I recently bought a custom on Etsy and I am having so much fun coming up with reasons to name her what I’m going to name her. I love your reasons for naming your dolls how you have. I bought a new color of eye for my custom, but I just feel too scared to actually change them lol 😂
@@writteninroses aren’t customs so much fun? The possibilities are nearly endless with AG. My first eye swap was terrifying! Then the next few were hard and painful, so I get your hesitation. But now they’re pretty easy!
Wow!😃I love them all! You have made so many great customs!! Thanks for sharing! I love watching your videos! I really like Heather! She is so cute! I guess she didn't like being in the camera! lol! 🤣Take care and stay safe!❤️
Hey Robin! Hmm I wonder if you’re right about Heather. Maybe she’s the one who buried her video a couple weeks ago - and how can a doll fall when she’s on a DOLL STAND?? 🤣 I just want to show her off because she turned out so cute!
You have made some wonderful customs! I think for me I would have the courage but not the strength to swap wigs and eyes. I’m glad you mentioned that it’s not easy. Do you think you would ever show your process of customizing a doll on camera?
I was sooooo nervous to do eyes. I only took the plunge because I neeeeeeded that Tiana custom behind me in the video. But yes it does take strength. Strong thumb bones lol. I wanted to do a custom on camera - but I’d need to think of something to talk about. I don’t want to make people watch me struggle in silence and pained grunts 😆
I LOVE the changes to Marguerite - she was the main new one to me. Also As someone who does not like the wig Darshini came with, I absolutely love the new wig and it completely changes my feelings about her. Do you keep a spreadsheet of your dolls? I have a spreadsheet that indicates when we got each one, price (if it's easy enough to figure out - harder to do when you buy a mixed lot of stuff), face mold, doll line (GOTY, TM, CYO, etc), hair color, eye color, name, and any notable details I want to have all in one place (ex: "This doll was one I bought for Grace for Christmas and I worked on restoring her in secret while Grace slept"). That spreadsheet has kept me honest about the total head count, but also about how often we buy dolls. I don't have a spreadsheet for clothing or accessories, though - just the dolls.
A spreadsheet?? Wow you’re organized lol! So organized in fact you asked me as if MOST collectors do this! All kidding aside… nope! I just buy until I run out of space… then I make more space. This last month was excessive because of the historical drop and my bday so close together. I’ll slow down for a bit. I’ll focus on doll clothes instead, because they take up less space 🤪
@@DisBlaine LMAO. Well, that's ONE spreadsheet. I have another for all the stuff we have for sale (and records of any past sales, in case the IRS decides we need to PROVE to them that this is a hobby and not a business) and a third spreadsheet that tracks my doll-related spending and income. That one has separate tabs for each year and separate tabs for Grace and I. Overkill? Not for me - it could get so out of hand otherwise lol.
Hi Blaine! I'm enjoying your videos so much. So much so that I'm commenting. Something I never do. I just wanted to tell you. Your custom Blossoms is reminiscent of Allison from Julie's story. I'm not sure how they depict her the book but in the movies Allison who wins the beauty pageant is visually very similar to your Blossom. Allison is also somewhat of a rival to Julie as well. It's really great seeing in doll form what that character would or could look like. Thank you for your videos.
Hi Jacqueline 👋🏼 First let me say thank you-I watch TH-cam on my tv, so I know the extra effort it takes to remember to go on my phone and comment. Second let me say thank you again lol. I should confess I don’t read the books because I like to imagine my own stories. BUT! I wondered if there could be a character like Blossom in Julie’s world. That’s so cool! I like the name Blossom better than Alison but I’ll try to watch that movie to see the actor who plays her, wow!!
I used to kill my thumbs when it came to eyeswapping. Thankfully, my mate does it for me, he's an electrician and, according to him, has leather for hands. Do much easier now, lol
@@DarcysNova626 I think I’ve finally learned to push them in like a savage then get them turned around. I used to worry I would damage something so I wouldn’t go hard enough. But it still hurts my thumbs 🤣 Guess I don’t have leather hands. Or titanium bones!
Nice job customizing your dolls i am terrified to change eyes on the doll. I am planning a wig swap just waiting for the right wig for one of my modern kaya dolls. The 106 with that straight wig makes her look like a #50. I love #109 with #80 wig. She looks great. I did not like the wig on 109 so i did not get the doll. The last one is beautiful but I kind of like the purple hair. #91 is the only colored hair doll I have. Thanks for the video
Yeah if only 106 had a neutral lip, she’d be a perfect substitute for 50-but I still love her, lipstick and all lol. Oh and I love 91! I should’ve mentioned this was an extra I bought on sale to customize. 91 is still safe in my collection 😁
