Thanks buddy! Looking forward to seeing how you top those crazy Benromach and G&M pours from 2024. To bigger and better things my friend. Cheers and Happy New Year 🥃🥂
I just found your channel recently and I love that you’re from Calgary! I live 2 hours south of you and I’m often in Calgary, sometimes more than once a month. So it’s amazing knowing that I can pick these bottles up either down here or up there when I’m in the city. Thanks for doing what you’re doing!
Hey Steve! Thanks for checking out my video and for the kind words. I'm glad that your close to Calgary so that you can get your hands on these bottles. You have the best prices and selection in the country at your fingertips. And you're a lot closer than me! I'm actually a couple hours outside of Vancouver but it still makes the most sense for me to get my whisky from Calgary. Cheers and Happy New Year 🥃🥂
@ oh right on! I was wondering if you were closer to Vancouver, but you mentioned Calgary so much I thought that’s where you were from. I love the content, and I’ve already picked up a bottle of Two Brewers on your recommendation. Keep doing your thing. It’s great.
Hey Matt, great line up and love how you broke down the best of each region for you in 2024. I had the opportunity and got myself anCnoc 24, Ledaig 18 and Craigellachie 17 early on this year. I am waiting for Laphroaig Cairdeas 2024 and KK16, both elusive to this point. My best so far this year has been Glendronach 15. We rarely see decent bottles show up in Ontario and GD was one of them so I was able to grab it. Merry Christmas and best of the holiday season to you and yours. Cheers!
Great to hear from you Rohit! Love hearing the feedback on the structure of the list, it's always tough to nail down a good way to run it. You've done well snagging an Ancnoc 24, Ledaig 18 and Craig 17. Truly that's already the makings of an all star tasting. Hope you run into the Cairdeas 2024 or any edition of the KK 16. GD gets a bit of hate since Brown-Forman took over but I'm usually still happy sipping on a GD15. I don't have the 15 currently but last night I was sharing the GD 21(2020) with some friends visiting for Christmas last night. Great drams all around. Cheers Rohit and Merry Christmas 🥃🎄
Excellent list, Matt! You aren’t helping my bottle ban 😂I think I’ll have to pick up an Ardnahoe. Everyone seems to rave about it. I’ll also give a thumbs up to Turntable. They are doing fantastic things. I like how you do the best of each region. Maybe something for me to do next year. I really need to open my Laddie 18. Again, great picks. I have made notes 😅 Cheers, Matt and happy New Year!
I'm digging all the love for Kilkerran. Fantastic stuff including your pick. I've really enjoyed my bottles of KK HP. Cheers and Merry Christmas friend 🥃🎄
Thanks man! Yeah both the 2023 and 2024 were awesome. Maybe only more impressed by how consistently excellent they have been! Cheers and Merry Christmas 🥃🎄
Thanks for watching Ty! That's the beauty of whisky man, always so much more to explore. I'm excited to see what 2025 has in store for you and the channel man. Cheers and Merry Christmas friend 🥃🎄
Interesting list, Matt, and love how you defend your choices with your passion (many of those I still haven't tried, mind you) but, damned, your No2 !...Very curious about it...Cheers & have a nice Christmas eve, buddy ! 🎄🥳🥮🍾🥃
Thanks Greg! I did notice that my list wound up with a bit of an overarching theme. It wasn't until I went and started putting things in order to shoot that I realized the mid to late teens age statement pattern. I'd love to pour that Daftmill for you one day buddy. Hope you've got something special in your glass for Christmas my friend. Cheers and merry Christmas 🥃🎄
@@whiskyonthewestcoast That would be cool indeed to meet up with some nice drams, hope some day it'll happen...I don't travel as much as before...Something special for Xmas ? Oh yes, if not tonight, it'll be tomorrow, and if not too tired I might record a "single whisky video", less tiring to make ! (I think you can have a clue about those special drams in my Insta posts you've already seen but i'm still on the hunt for a bottle or 2 & I've been warned a local barfly has something special on the side for me according to our latest chat, some "unobtainium/quick obtainium" if you shoot quick bottle I'm sure you'd like...I like the fact he keeps those bottle under the counter for non flippers customers...Cheers & enjoy your Christmas eve !
Haha, way less tiring to make a single nice whisky review. On the unobtanium front, I'm a big fan of stores serving the actual whisky fans well, rather than the profit seekers. I liked the idea of tearing the foil or signing your name to the label for a slight discount to ensure things aren't going into the auctions as much. Cheers buddy.
@@whiskyonthewestcoast absolutely ! and its one from your favorite distilleries & even mentioned (ok, from another batch) in your video here 😉 About the second part of your answer, i could tell you some crazy stories which happened at La Maison du Whisky or else about rare whiskies from a certain country....Cheers !
Glad you are able to get Craigalliche 17 for that price. I would buy 3 at that price. Got myself a Tamdhu 18 at $120us for Christmas last year. Wonderful stuff. Also did the Bruichladdich 18 as a Christmas gift to myself last year too. Absolutely Love this bottle. Think I will get myself another this Christmas. Cheers and Merry Christmas Matt
Thanks for watching again Donner Pass! If that Tamdhu 18 was $120 here I'd probably buy another two as well! Sounds like you're drinking the good stuff pairing that with some Bruichladdich 18. Cheers and Merry Christmas buddy 🥃🎄
Glad you jumped on that bottle and are enjoying it. What a steal of a price that was. I only purchased 1(still in Calgary waiting for me). Should have made it 3! Cheers and Merry Christmas Kirby! 🥃🎄
@ I may buy another one tonight if there’s any, I’m going to watch the rest of your video later I’m at work I opened it with a couple neighbours and finished about half the bottle. Great night.
Yeah, nothing value wise came close to that Craigellechie 17 deal! Good to hear you've been enjoying this years Cairdeas too, killer stuff. Cheers and Merry Christmas Kevin 🥃🎄
Thanks man! Great to hear you were lucky enough to snag this one! It's excellent and yet underrated and overlooked, at least when compared to other J.A. Mitchell products. See you in the new year! Cheers and Merry Christmas 🥃🎄
Yeah it really is hit or miss over here in Canada. My home province of British Columbia is often twice the U.K. prices. But in neighbouring Alberta the prices can be insanely low. and half of U.K. prices in some instances. Just a wild swing in prices within the same country. Thanks for watching OxonHammer. Cheers 🥃
I really enjoyed the cairdeas 2024 took a bottle on vacation I was advised to buy as many as I could find (2) I also enjoyed the killkerran 16 got a couple bottles 2023. The kk heavily peated was excellent as well
Also love the KK HP releases. You've done really well to back up those 2024 Cairdeas and KK 16's! I'm thrilled to have back ups of each too. Seems like we're on the same wave length here Kirby! Cheers once again buddy 🥃🎄
Hey Cliff! I won't be attending the MS Whisky Festival unfortunately. I''ll be on my way to the Victoria Whisky Festival in B.C. on Jan. 17th. Cheers buddy and Happy New Year 🥃🥂
So I went over to KWM after I got home tonight and picked up a bottle of the daftmill 15 there was only two left now there is one left in Canada as KWM is the only store that carries it Thanks for helping me make up my mind on that one. I’ve been thinking about it for a while. As for my whiskey of the year, I am going to have to go with my 60th birthday whiskey which was the G & M Highland Park 1995 27-year-old maybe the best thing I’ve ever tasted mind you it’s the nicest whiskey that I’ve had which I had more than just asample of
Glad you grabbed a bottle of that Daftmill 15 CS at KWM! I think it's one of the best and purest examples of Daftmill out there. The price is high but if you only ever have one bottle of Daftmill that could be it. My first few drams were good, but more and more they started going in the direction of exceptional. Hope you like it. I had that G&M 1997 Highland Park as my top Independent Bottling on last years list. Happy to have bunkered 2 of that one as it's phenomenal like you said. Cheers buddy!
Buddy, that's a great whisky! Really enjoy it and when I can catch it on sale for 90USD... I really need a backup bottle while I can get it at that price. Cheers John and Merry Christmas my friend 🥃🎄
Yeah, it can be tough to acquire domestically. I'm just glad it does show up from time to time in Alberta and B.C. What Province are you in? I think Alberta is might be sold out but it recently launched at the government store here in B.C. in November. It sold pretty quick at the Government stores and is now showing up at private liquor stores in Vancouver and on Vancouver Island, though at the price of $230 + 15%. I passed on a 2nd bottle at that price because that's too high in my opinion. Hope you can find a bottle at some point! Cheers and Merry Christmas 🥃🎄
As an Aussie, red wine barrels from our red wine industry are everywhere! If you dont see a lot of finishes or maturations in red wine it can be a real novelty with some great berry fruit flavours. But for me it's too much, every Aussie whisky has too much red wine influence, it overpowers the spirit 😂
Thanks for watching the video Harold! I get quite tired of Wine casks often myself. And even with this Turntable release I would have picked almost any other cask combo than Red Wine and Virgin oak 😅 But somehow this one worked for me. And it at least allowed me the opportunity to try a nearly 50% Australian whisky for about $200 less than the others on my shelf(Belgrove for $280 eek). But I agree, we need less heavy handed casks to let that spirit shine. Cheers Harold, and Merry Christmas 🥃🎄
@@whiskyonthewestcoast maybe I can DHL express you some nice Aussie bottles without enormous price tags 😂 But I'm crying over here, all spirits I think have a 100% tax, effectively doubling prices! I ran to look for a Turntable bottle after your review... AUD $320 😩😩 - that's CAD $300 or so 😤 but in any case merry Christmas to you too mate!
The taxes are a total pain, and it seems you guys have it pretty rough over there for pricing. $300?!?! Yikes, that 350% more than here. But remember, no crying in the whisky, it's too expensive for that!
Great list! So sad I waited for the inept LCBO to get the 2024 Cairdeas after they said it would be released and even sent me the SKU number. Never came to Ontario and the last 10 had.
If there's one thing I've learned from all the comments from you guys it's never count on the LCBO to get any release within two years of it coming out. What a gong show the HelLCBO is. I feel for you guys. Hope you find a late drop from Alberta or elsewhere. I pulled an all-nighter in line to get my backup bottle of it here in B.C. and I'm glad I did. Cheers my friend and Merry Christmas 🥃🎄
@gordledrew2256 I saw the prices in your Manitoba "premium" whisky release... $205 for Deanston 12 Year old is a friggin joke. I feel bad for you guys. Cheers and Merry Christmas 🥃🎄
Yeah definitely some on the pricier side. But I feel like that makes sense when we're talking about the best of the year. I think I'm going to revisit covering some of the best value bottles again this year because I think we all are looking for those bottles that are good and don't cost us an arm and a leg. Cheers Francis and Happy New Year 🥃🥂
