City councils also pass ordinances that compose part of criminal law. Each state has a statutory criminal code, as does the federal government.
I’m all for term limits, but 4 year term limits doesn’t make sense. Congressional seats are elected for 2 year terms and Senators for 6 year I believe. There should be a limit of like 3 or 4 terms.
What about an age limit? Or even better totally restructure the composition of the House and senate so that representation is proportional to the population. This is especially true in the senate as teeny tiny States like Wyoming have the same influence there as humongous states such as texas, california, and new york.
remember that these sentencings are for possession, not creation of the material. frequently lower sentencing will be imposed as part of a plea deal for the possessor to cooperate in helping to prosecute the creator.
Then you need to look at the facts of the particular case and read the justifications made in text. Culpability to a crime matters and that's exactly what she took into account. Giving a maximum sentence for every single wrong is not reasonable and not something our society wants. Our correctional system needs to focus on actual correction of behavior instead of thoughts on revenge.

The way they ask the questions is not designed to get a real answer. It's designed to earn political brownie points with their base. In this case, she tried to explain that she had sentenced over a hundred people and without having the information in front of her, she wouldn't be able to give the explanation properly. But he wasn't looking for a real understanding of why. She could have said it was a 17 year old with cognitive disabilities being tried as an adult after inadvertently grabbing the wrong one from the shared computer at the public library. Perhaps this kid panicked when he saw the files and his it in a drawer and never looked at it again. Or maybe the perp was actually one of the children being victimized but they still had the photos after turning 18. In either (completely hypocritical) case, while the person would technically be guilty of possessing child porn, intent to harm or be sexually gratified is not a contributing factor. In a case like that a low sentence would be warranted. And since she's sentenced so many people she can't be expected to remember details.

Yes, there is definitely evil at play in this confirmation process. Just like the dEVIL masquerades himself as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14) and is an accuser of our brothers and sisters (Revelation 12:10), those senators are presenting tidbits of info to make it seem like Judge Brown Jackson does not care about the children's safety. But if they really wanted to know where she was coming from they would have let her answer without interruption. That's what they would do if understanding her thinking behind the sentences was their true goal. But they have a different agenda altogether.
Why should congress provide minimum sentencing threshold and other guidelines and blame judges for applying their discretion in sentencing? They should have spelt out only maximum sentencing threshold or increased the minimum threshold. Ted Cruz can’t blame her for that. Then you need to look at the facts of the particular case and read the justifications made in text. Culpability to a crime matters and that's exactly what she took into account. Giving a maximum sentence for every single wrong is not reasonable and not something our society wants. Our correctional system needs to focus on actual correction of behavior instead of thoughts on revenge.

The way they ask the questions is not designed to get a real answer. It's designed to earn political brownie points with their base.
In this case, she tried to explain that she had sentenced over a hundred people and without having the information in front of her, she wouldn't be able to give the explanation properly. But he wasn't looking for a real understanding of why. She could have said it was a 17 year old with cognitive disabilities being tried as an adult after inadvertently grabbing the wrong one from the shared computer at the public library. Perhaps this kid panicked when he saw the files and his it in a drawer and never looked at it again.
Or maybe the perp was actually one of the children being victimized but they still had the photos after turning 18. In either (completely hypocritical) case, while the person would technically be guilty of possessing child porn, intent to harm or be sexually gratified is not a contributing factor. In a case like that a low sentence would be warranted.
And since she's sentenced so many people she can't be expected to remember details.

Just like the dEVIL masquerades himself as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14) and is an accuser of our brothers and sisters (Revelation 12:10), those senators are presenting tidbits of info to make it seem like Judge Brown Jackson does not care about the children's safety. But if they really wanted to know where she was coming from they would have let her answer without interruption. Even further, they would have told her ahead of time to review those specific cases so she could refresh her memory and be ready to answer. That's what they would do if understanding her thinking behind the sentences was their true goal. But they have a different agenda altogether.
Why should congress provide minimum sentencing threshold and other guidelines and blame judges for applying their discretion in sentencing? They should have spelt out only maximum sentencing threshold or increased the minimum threshold. Ted Cruz can’t blame her for that. Being a woman and a mother, and if emotions are to be the basis of justice, I doubt if she wouldn’t have prescribed a more serious sentencing. I will go for castration.
