I think Francis always wanted to box, as the UFC HW champ he could command a higher purse in boxing than if he had dropped the belt to Jones. I don’t believe Francis was afraid, I just think he wanted to bank that boxing 💰 first.

Man I love the press junkets with Dana. But on the Francis situation, he does not make sense. To say a fighter is in it just for the money? He was digging sand mines in Cameroon, everyone to some extent is in whatever they do for money. Then to immediately contradict and be like the money was better here. Hard to believe. Then to say they wanted to cut him after just two losses in a row after losing to the champ & a one-off dud? Clearly it’s not because of his lack of talent but because they knew he & his manager were holding out & not signing a new deal. & to say he didn’t want to fight Jones? Jones hadn’t fought for years and was at odds with the UFC due to failed negotiations while Ngannou was calling for the fight. If Jones beat Stipe, that is the biggest fight, business wise to make, and will actually potentially determine who the GOAT heavyweight is.
