I am sure many will not agree but here's my understanding on Chumu's growth story.
Firstly its an extension of Dimapur market (similar pattern with NCR region in Delhi) urban sprawl in theoretical terms.
Secondly due to poor planning, Dimapur city is exhausted with space for further development and on top of that illegal taxations have also added to the woes, because of which many businesses are slowly shifting towards Chumu.
Thirdly with the upgration of 2 lane to 4 lane, it has given a huge boost to connectivity.
In simple terms it is located in the right space in the right time.
If we can tap into the potentials of other towns/villages in our state, I am sure we can experience all round development eg Thanamir village in Kiphire dist if famous for its Kashmiri origin apples and only very few places in India is suitable for growing apples, why can't we tap this hidden gold. So many fruits like oranges, passion fruits, bananas etc are grown in Wokha. There are many tea gardens in Tuli area brewing good quality tea, why can't it dominate the tea industry in our state.
I am stopping with just some examples otherwise this comment will become into a book 😁 otherwise my point is, if we start observing and not just look around then you will realise that God has blessed our ancestor's land so much that we can become prosperous even like the Jews.
So lets stop blaming & start working for a better tomorrow.

Just one reply to your question,the people of Nagaland cannot tap the potential of these abundance,because of Blood sucking parasites self styled Government operating in every corner of Nagaland.
Mokokchung with its 10 MLAs is the most silent develop district. Mokokchung is a sleeping develop gaint only capable district to be the next capital of Nagaland. Appreciate of their humble and farsighted plans.

To all those silly people saying CM Rio and his tribesmen politically possessing state's fund to develop only Chumu and Kohima. Let's be clear, economically there's a term called "Investors" u see Angamis are the only tribe sharing land to every tribes of the state, hence attracting various investors like land buyers, business setup etc. These urbanization or massive buildings which u see around are not build by Govt.but by public. Also about 4lane highway it's a part of Central Govt policy and it's not for free but a business investment policy to set up "toll tax" for revenue from every road users. Lastly, about Govt offices/property..it is due to public convenience where major population residents, also depends on genoriousity of the land owners/villagers who wisely donates knowing the future advantages. Now someone may think twice for calling Angamis foolish for saling land to others.
All ward councils and land owners should pass a resolution that 80% of businesses establishment shall be allotted only for Indigenous Nagas of Nagaland. Or else, it's of no advantage for us whether it's alightning speed growing town or not.

Due to the greed and money mindedness of some nagas, the non locals have already captured our business and economy in Dimapur and Chumu. We are too late to remove them because of the building owners giving them priority just for few thousands they pay more than the locals. Its really a shame to see this reality happening.
I just wana fast forward n see when another tribe will rule Nagaland that time weather they will complaint or protest if funds and development is shifted to either mokokchung ,wokha, or Eastern Area.while the rest of Nagaland state is sorry state while all funds are being diverted to Kohima smart City n chumou.things are always good for whole Nagaland when it's done is Kohima and chumou.but it's always a problm when development is meant for other districts.

Before it call nechu guard,my family stay till 2001 and there was no development so remote and to go to dimapur it's too long for us,so my father say to my mother nechu guard will never come development and it's very remote,no good school nothing, no commercial place every thing we have to go to dimapur so let's sell our house and land and my mother too agree and shifted to purana bazaar and our family never thought nechu guard will grow like this, so remote place today it has become a fastest growing town...I never thought it will change into chumukidima of course there was chumukidima village but small but never imagine like this, what will come in future nobody can predict... anything can make beautiful...

Not being ISM but Rio should also focus dimapur. There's a multi shopping complex abandoned here in dimapur forest colony, in my opinion he should invest half the amount there and rest invest in whatever he wants. The project is set to be a Multi complex mall so why not just spend the half amount there 🙌 my opinion
