    This rocks! Jazzy with crunchy chords. After two years of listening to microtonal still cannot figure out why some of it works, and other doesn't. But this absolutely does! Also, this mix really works for me :)

    I’ve never really heard a song that intentionally uses microtones like this and while i’m definitely not used to it because it sounds like it’s in the key of Z#, it’s also very intriguing and makes me wonder what other genres would sound like if like this.

    I'm fairly new to microtonal music, so I'm still getting used to it, because being used to the usual 12-TET music, it's so strange hearing different notes than the ones I'm used to. this is really opening my eyes to a whole new genre of music

      🤓 Well actually what you're hearing are new intervals, not new notes. It wouldn't be microtonal if you just transposed a song one quarter tone up. In fact hearing it wouldn't sound "strange" at all.

      @@falkeborg9432 The thing that makes it "strange" are the intervals between notes. If you heard to these notes one at a time every 10 minutes, you wouldn't know it's microtonal. Of course there are new notes you probably never heard but the thing that makes it "strange" are the intervals.

      I like using the free plugin Redtron and it's flute sound for that kinda thing, also Tapeotronic that sounds a bit cleaner and is cool in combination with Redtron so you can get some extra expression, iirc there's some more cool ones that are completely free...
      Sadly I don't think these can be tuned, though. Very cool sound whether you keep it raw, make it into something new entirely or maybe do a bit of both, like keeping it raw with a subtle reverb and EQ and maybe modulating a freq shifter for some different character on (Some of) your bent note expressions.

    I'm not sure I heard chords interact with each other in quite this way before, very cool! If I had to describe it, it's almost sort of meandering in a cool way, maybe floating is a better word? Certain bits have a more straightforward sense of direction, but a lot of the chords just sorta fall into place in an interesting way that feels strangely... Neutral? It's almost as if the bits that feel more straightforward get washed away. Love the different bits of jazzy language you tap into and make it feel so different, it's almost like a painting depicting a mundane scene, but it's all ghostly, surreal and uncanny in a way that feels comfortable.

    • @beheld165
      @beheld165  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I actually use all of them... But there is some reason I play them. I'm not a lot into music theory but I think there are some easy way to write stuff, with microtons or not.
      I write chords like multiple voices. I usually take four or five notes per chord. It's like I write them individually, I want them to sing, and they can be pretty free. Then, I try my best to create chord progression with a lot of release and tension movements. Basycally, I try to right stuff pretty similar at 12 TET, and then I often play with basic chromatism, and bring back stuff in confortable places, with a lot of consonance.
      It's look like I work a lot with kind of pentatonic scales but with some extra flavor, some microtons around those strong anchors.
      I think this is it! I stay around strong "12 TET - like" voices, and then I explore around them to give some spices, new colors. I'm definitely not going to revolutionize microtonal music with this approch, but it's fun, and sometimes, I write some cool things, like this tune!
      If you share your experimentations, I'll take a look! Sorry I can't help more, but I hope you enjoy trying too!
