    Now that Honda has introduced the Navi to the US Market, this begs for an update, Monkey vs Grom vs Navi. Honestly I think all three have their place in the market and depending on what I person wants, decides what's best for them.

      That's a great idea! We'll look into getting our hands on a Navi and see if we can't do another comparison as soon as the snow melts here in the great white North. In the meantime, we're working on a Honda 600XL Project that should be really cool. Thanks for commenting the suggestion!

      Oh for sure, the Monkey seat is way more comfortable. Reminds us of the big banana seat on our old Schwinn bike from way back in the 70s! And that's a good indicator of the difference between the two, the Monkey is a little more laid back, retro cool, the Grom is a little more high-strung, performance-oriented. Neither is excessive but that's the direction each leans.

    The Monkey is more expensive but worth the extra money.
    The Monkey has class and is for an adult.
    The Grom is more of a toy for younger.
    The advantage of the Grom is that it is fitted to carry a pillion but the Monkey doesn't have foot pegs.

    The very first thing that comes to my mind when seeing the Monkey, is that it is an updated big brother to the old Mini Trail 50 from back in the day. I want one!

  • @spydie
    @spydie 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I think you are wrong on the ABS. Honda has a 1 channel ABS on the Mini Moto bikes, which means they are not working together. It does not affect the rear wheel. It only works on the front wheel.

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It wouldn't be the first time we were wrong. We looked it up. It was really hard to find any info and we got a lot of conflicting opinions. Then we pulled out the trusty owners manual and read: "This model equipped with an Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) designed to help prevent the front brake from locking up during hard braking. There is no ABS function to the rear wheel." So you are correct sir! Honda has combined ABS and combined electronic ABS on lots of its higher end bikes, so future Groms and Monkeys may have two channel systems like we thought this one was. Thanks for the commenting, and thanks for saying it nicely lol!

    I can't get the Monkey becuse occasionaly I will have to pick up my daughter/sun from downtown and since it's a short ride it would be stupid to take the car.
    The Grom allows for a passenger for short distances at least.

    A question on these: I want to do some light trail riding and I've heard that if over 200 lbs you might have to upgrade shocks to some better Ohlins. Thoughts? (I'm 210 lbs). In addition, your kinda-knobbies on the Grom: based on the fairings/fender, can you actually put even larger tires on the Monkey? It appears to have more room under the fender than the grom (obviously the 12-in. wheel is a limiting factor).
    Great video! I'm excited to add a second bike to my roster in the near future!

      I was thinking of either the Monkey or the Trail 125 in a couple of years just as a fun toy. Any comparison video between the Monkey and Trail? The price isn't much different. Not sure why the Monkey costs more than the trail since the trail seems larger and has a rack on it. IDK.

    • @gadblatz4841
      @gadblatz4841 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Awesome_Force The monkey has some stylistic elements that increase the price point, like the metal chrome fenders for instance. They have different gearboxes as well, although I'm not sure how much that factors into the price. The trail is more of a tool and is more suited for riding off road or on difficult surfaces. The monkey is more of a toy that happens to be so well built that you can use it as a tool lol. You could do the same things with both bikes, but you might have a better time with one or the other depending on the situation. Honestly, it's a toss up.

    I'm looking at the 2022 models. The Grom has a 123.9cc engine. And the Monkey has a 124.9cc engine. Not sure if it is a typo but there is a 1cc diff according to the official specs. Weird .

    • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      In the interest of production costs, it doesn't make a lot of sense for Honda to have two different 125 engines. The engine for both bikes was redesigned in 2021, and is the same for 2022. Both engines have a 50.0 x 63.1mm (2.0 x 2.5 inches) bore and stroke, so either 1) there is something slightly different about the cylinder heads (which doesn't make a ton of sense but wouldn't be the first time a manufacturer did something that didn't make much sense) or something got rounded up or down in calculations or, as you say, its a misprint. Really interesting question and we'll keep digging to see if we can find some cylinder head differences. Thanks for the question! If anyone knows the answer, comment below!!

Everyone drove around me. Was super awesome. The 2021 Grom weighs only 227 pounds wet. So you should be totally fine and not have any trouble picking it up. • @MotorsandMischief
      @MotorsandMischief  ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on what you mean by fit. Our Suburban can easily swallow a Grom or Monkey, or honestly both at the same time, if you put them on their sides. But if you want to transport one without having to drain the gas or worry about oil leaking in the back of the SUV, the Grom sits at 40" tall and a Suburban's rear hatch is only 36". We've never tried to fit one standing up so we're not sure if you can roll it in at an angle and then stand it up (the roof is a good 4" higher than the rear hatch opening) or let the air out of the tires or some other trick to get it to fit. But the short answer is it will not just roll in and out standing upright. Thanks for the question!
