The edit was just Matt making fun. It's his style of humor. He does not "miss crashes"!!!!
Yeah it wouldn’t make sense for him to miss that on an entirely otherwise flawless run lol
The edit is basically because there's 5 notes in the album version of the song to fill out the bar, and he fills them with kicks but since he crashed here they just edited the crash 5 times to fill the space I think? since it would sounds like a swell if he hit the same crash that many times

First time I heard it, in that particular moment of the song, I thought that it sounded like the musical version of a "glitch" occurring so perhaps they edited it that way as a little nod towards that vibe it kind of gives and play into that and be funny.
This guy is a master at beat displacement. A lot of their songs don't move time signatures as much as people think and its more Matt just displacing beats so it sounds off or random. A couple of vids to checkout from him: Matt Garstka Beast Mode Medley....live clips from a show of his various drum solos in their songs (fortunately, there are parts of their songs where the guitars just vamp on a part and Matt gets to go off and he's always playing something different) and a vid on his channel about beat displacement. Dude practiced a LOT and it shows. Oh and that edit is in the song...you can hear that it's sampled like that to sound like a record skipping or something.
I’ll have to check those out! But you are right. Garstka is on another planet with his rhythms and beats.
@@rwesleyslaven Oh....and about his kit, he did a video introducing this kit since he had just switched from Tama to DW on this last album/tour. There's also a Vic Firth vid about his signature sticks. :)

@@rwesleyslaven I would say definitely north of $10k. I've seen DW kits with 22" kick, 10", 12", 14" and 16" toms/floor toms run about $6500 (no snare or hardware). Add that kick and that special veneer and you've got to be at least close to $10k.

hell yeah, dudes a machine. if you havent heard spiritbox you should check out the circle with me one take vocal! And/or the band chon. Specifically the song "ghost" and "suda" they're super short so i figured i'd give you two. They are on sumerian record label which have a huge list of bands on their roster, including animals as leaders.

The edit, I think, it's just for style effect ;) The song get very unnaturally choppy here, with strong edit even in the album.
