I heard this song when I was a teen living in Knoxville & it has stayed in my head ever since. One of my friends moved with her family to Sunbright, TN for a short time because her father got a job that took them there. She had a birthday & my step-dad drove several of our friends, her cousin & myself down to spend the weekend & came back for us, too. One memorable thing I remember is taking a shortcut walking on a train track between two mountains. There was a creek below & a tent that was for a revival that looked very small from the height we were up to. I became frozen with fear and had to crawl across. I did not return that way. Also I remember the trip back was awful because of a torrential rain storm. It was a less than 60 miles trip that seemed to take forever. It was before Interstates and the road was winding. Sunbright did not seem to even need a traffic light. I find myself singing that song occasionally. I just played it & my husband said it was a happy song. Watching "Escape to the Country" & the town of Truro was mentioned is what brought me here.

I love this one, and the Kazoo makes the song, and has anyone won the bet? I think not as I've heard no one ask what the prize was had they been able, I'd say its probably safe to say at this point in time that I won that bet...
It was a kids show which aired on CFCN Television in Calgary AB... From 1967 untill 1997.... Look up on youtube, Buck Shot & Benny-Sixteen Chickens and a Tamborine... :-)
My mother sang this song while playing her guitar back in 1963- we loved it as kids
Now this is what real music sounds like, I love the kazoo it just puts the icing on the cake for me
Listened to this song as a kid in the 90's! ❤ Never gets old.
Now THIS is real music!
I must agree, this is, has been, and always will be one of my very favorites, thanks for the comment too :)
They shouldn't even call this new crap country. This is timeless

+Henry Burr fan Bill Mack. country dj that was on xm radio a while back that played this a lot.
Also a song writer: Blue (Leann Rimes), Clinging to a Saving Hand, Drinking Champagne, etc
I've heard that fiddle line somewhere else, a lot.
It is from the old fiddle tune called the Chicken Reel.
I've heard it on Looney Tunes as well in the Foghorn Leghorn cartoon.
Wake up Jacob, kindle up yer light,
see Grand Mammy and a pole cat fight,
a gobbling pig and a jumping bean, sixteen chickens and a tambourine.
But most of the rest of the second and fourth verses is incomprehensible.
As I run cross my tater patch ta see if my old hen had hatched, she jumped up a singing on key, sixteen chickens and a tambourine.
