- We built a disappearing green screen BMX bike and it actually works! We brought it to the skatepark and set the goal of trying to do a backflip with it and make it disappear! We also tried a bunch of different tricks like the disappearing bike grinds and even jumping the spine! It worked pretty good but there is a lot to improve and make better!

Matty wearing one of the green morph suits riding a regular bike would be super cool. Just see a bike doing casual flips and bar spins with no one on it 😂

Crazy idea, try the roller coaster bike but just make the outer ring disappear so it looks like a normal bike.

fabric is really hard to key out in editing software, the fact that it will bunch up makes it so there is different shades of color everywhere due to the shade, would be cool if they can figure it out though!
love that you are exploring different things with BMX, just something as "simple" as green screen wouldnt really pop into a normal BMX riders brain
GREAT IDEA GUYS! This would be perfect for trick tutorials. It REALLY lets you see what the body is doing to accomplish the tricks!
Hey guys. You are onto something. I am a P.E. Teacher. We always look at the breakdown of a movement. You can totally do that now with the setup you have. It will help people learn the tricks and know where they should be positioning their body. Love it. Scotty hit me up with anything you may want to ask to maybe do some tutorial vids with it. Yo here are some tips that could potentially help to make the effect cleaner. Onbviously lighting is alwasy an issue when it comes to video effects and you can not really influence the sun xd. But for what I saw you used automatic camera settings, like focus, exposure and whitebalance. Filming with fixed settings would help so that the clean-plate (shot withouth matty) and the bike shots would look more similar. Also on the backflip clips the camera moved from Matty landing (you mentioned it already), haaving the camera more stable helps a lot. Lastly: i dont have to mention that one could spend hours on editing the clip and cutting out Matty so the bike is fully gone, but obviously no one would want to do that :D But for a shot like the feeble down the ledge a simply cut layer that starts on the edge of the ledge and goes downwards would easily hide the shadows of the tyre and make the effect more convincing.
Anyways maybe these tips can help to make future ideas even nicer. I really like the concept :) Keep doing this kinda stuff
Also if could look like the lens of the camera has some sort of optical stabilizer (OSS for sony lenses if im not mistaking). Turn it off when the camera is on a tripod, this will prevent it from drifting ever so slightly.

Where you guys are going wrong is with making an entire object green. Doing thing like removing just the wheels, frame, or the handlebars could create some pretty cool effects. You could also modify the bike to look like a hover bike which would look pretty sweet.

Another thing: would doing this in the evening work better? Would less lighting help some of the weird textures that happen from the sunlight?

Great concept, I feel like this is just the beginning. As expensive as paint is bikes cost more so I feel like you guys are the only ones doing this. At least for a while anyway.

One tip Scotty . When filming and key out green screen it really helps if you not follow the 180 degree rule for the shutter speed ( twice the frame rate ) . Instead use much higher shutter speed eliminating the morion blur . Hopefully this helps you and sorry if it is said already. Cool idea 💡

Yo Scotty! Instead of filming a separate clean plate where you risk a slightly moved shot and changing light, you're better off just recording and extra 10 seconds prior to Matty entering the frame. It should be a much better clean plate :)
I think the ghost bike looks sick, imagine using this in a part like just a couple creative clips in between banger clips I’ve never seen anyone do anything like that! Just throwing ideas 💡

you could try masking out the spokes by hand to make it look a little better but honestly i think it could be cool seeing what the community can do with the raw footage, there are some talented people out there

Hey, Scotty! I have a great tip for keeping your bike/ tires clean. Grab one of those cheap Kiwi brushes for shoe polishing, made of horse hair(pretty tough) and great for getting caked on dust/dried mud splotches off. I found the big and little brush (for tight spaces) at the grocery store, and living in Canada, spring street riding is a tad wet and grimy. Hope that helps!!!!

With a fixed camera angle you can use rotoscoping to make the bike disappear, don't even need to paint it. I've seen it done on some mountain biking clips.

maybe disc wheel covers would help with the spoke thing, you could get them really green

Just another way around you did.
Normal bike and green suit.
So it will look like bike is riding and doing tricks on it's own=))
And there is one more idea. Its difficult AF but gonna look sick on edit.
So basically I mean a good combination of what you did with what I suggested above plus perfect replication of tricks.
This could look like Matty flies off the ramp, throws tail whip and disappears, bike spins alone, Matty appears and catches the bike, rides away like a boss.
Same could be reflected like: bike flies off the ramp alone, Matty appears, makes tailwhip and disappears, bike rides off alone.
I hope you got idea to play around with.)

Seems like a fun experiment. One suggestion I have, which may or may not be feasible,. Is to get some black fabric that’s as wide as Matt’s legs throw some Velcro on it and wrap the frame where his far leg is. It may not work but, I feel like if it did that would fully complete the illusion.

to fix the spokes not disappearing you could get those wheels that have the three posts rather than spokes. also going seatless could improve it as well
