I have had to remind myself many times that my Lord commands service-he took on that role himself-so when I am serving my family in my household chores and cooking and cleaning and doing endless loads of laundry it can seem thankless-one year for my birthday my husband bought me a widows mite in a necklace and when I asked why he replied because the Lord said she was justified-she gave all that she had-and so have you to our family-greatest gift he ever gave me and I treasure it-I don’t need a thank you everyday-if you love them serve them with a grateful heart ❤️

The appreciation from our children really comes when they get older. It’s
beyond their capacity when they are littles to fully understand what goes into homemaking, cooking, nurturing, etc. I have 3 grown sons now, who also have their own little sons, and they have shared with me how much they appreciate all that we did/or do as parents. Serve with love in this season & it’ll come back around.

We started our family of three at a young age, 21,23,25. Then several years later we were empty nesters for 12 years, then.... we raised 3 of our granddaughters for 11 years, until our late 60's. I really didn't think any of the kids paid much attention to what I fixed at least not the first 3. The second 3 would get off the school bus, real close to our house, and they could smell the aroma of supper coming out the opened windows and they could usually guess what we were having by the aroma. Now 1 of our oldest bunch and 2 of the girls will call and it's G'ma how do you fix whatever. I guess they were paying more attention to meals than I thought. Sometimes even the bus driver would ask the girls what I was fixing. He's been our bus driver for all our kids so he knew us well.

Love it. I'm a grandma that raised 4 of my grandkids and they always have friends over there's mostly boys since there was only 1 girl in the 4. So they love home cooking and even their friends will ask me how to fix this and that so they can go home and try.

So true! Look back and wonder how I did everything! My grown kids call me all the time. Oh my God, Mom it’s so hard to put dinner on the table every night, get the laundry done, work, raise kids& have a life! I laugh, they finally got it!

Exactly. If you expect them to thank you all the time are you doing it for the right reasons? And appreciation as she said goes both ways. If you never acknowledge things your family does why should you expect them to do it back?

@@nancyfarkas3592 this was my comment...from what Jennifer said your assuming that I never acknowledge what they do....
Why should I expect it back...
I do acknowledge what they do....
Be kind please...I walk in my shoes and you in yours. It sounded mean. Just saying...
And honestly, I always appreciate what I hear from Jennifer because I have alot of respect for her....but dont throw others under the bus who are looking for advice and help...❤

As a several year follower/subscriber of yours, I know that we only see a glimpse and snippets of your life. I also know, as a mom (one still a teen at home) and grandma (2 girls, 8 & 5) 10+ years older than you, once you have a system in place and kids are older and know the routine, we hopefully all are a bit more calm.
And isn’t it wonderful when your grown kids acknowledge you?!?!

I understand what the question on appreciation. Being a mother or father who maintains a home and does the cooking to feed family. Of course your attitude in doing it in love for your family, However, I find that when I am not able to cook or clean for awhile, they miss my contribution. Just like everyone, we Miss what we have when we lose it for a while. I had to leave to help out my daughter for a week. No! I didn’t cook ahead for them. They kept saying they missed my meals and the house felt different. I felt so good to hear that.😊

In response to the person asking about giving appreciation for our work....when my boys were younger we had a "special plate" that we did every night at supper. It was blue and different from our other plates. Everyone got to have the plate in rotation. Whoever had the plate got to hear an appreciation or thank you from all the other people. Thanks for doing the dishes. Thanks for unpacking your backpack. Thanks for making dinner. Etc., you get the idea. They weren't huge things but EVERYONE in our family learned to give appreciations and how to accept them. It was one if the best things I did as a parent. We did it for years, even when guests came over. Our boys are 25 and 23 now. We still have the plate in a cupboard. Maybe I'll pull it back out 😊

You might want to think about making your own barb b q sauce. I made my own and canned it and we love it. I made two varieties one a sweet baby rays dupe and one was apple barb b q. We like the first one best and they don't require fresh tomatoes. So you can make any time of the year.

Oh I appreciated the appreciation talk today, thank you. I have been feeling so under appreciated from my young adult son who is still living at home. I have been trying to tell myself I will miss doing the things I do for him when he does fly the nest but I would love him to do things without being asked or reminded! Even just sometimes. I am also reminding myself that I have a lot to be thankful for in him, he’s a hardworking young man and not in any trouble. It’s tricky the appreciation debate from both sides. Love to you and your family.

I am not “sick” of the word Florida! I love it, too! I believe it means Easter, which when when Ponce de Leon landed on what we know as Florida!
I have thought about the one viewer who wants to know how to get her family to appreciate what she does. I agree with your response. I have been homemaking and mothering for 43 years. When I was younger, I did feel like I wanted more recognition for my services. But as the years have gone by, I think I have “grown” into my vocation of motherhood. And you are correct, some children never realize or appreciate your efforts while others are extremely grateful. On the days when I definitely do not feel like cooking, or cleaning, doing laundry or shopping, I think about the times to come when I won’t have anyone around to serve. And that definitely changes my attitude. Prayer also helps to get through those times.

I taught my kids to say please and thank you when out but i forgot to teach them to say thank you to me. I checked my Walmart, which is a large supercenter here in Belvidere, and they do not have Dossier perfume in stock. It is an online order product, I am envious that you have a Kroger store. We had one in a near by town but they were bought out by a Schnucks and their digital coupons just are not the same types of savings. I need to make a soup this weekend for us to have this coming week. We have enjoyed Amber's Creamy Potato Soup several times but maybe I will try the broccoli soup. Soups are such great make ahead meals that you can just add either a salad, sandwich, or cheese/sausage and crackers with it. We love soup!

The comment about getting your family to appreciate what you do for them reminded me of this story:
A man came home from work and found his three children outside, still in their pajamas, playing in the mud, with empty food boxes and wrappers strewn all around the front yard. The door of his wife’s car was open, as was the front door to the house and there was no sign of the dog. Proceeding into the entry, he found an even bigger mess. A lamp had been knocked over, and the throw rug was wadded against one wall. In the front room the TV was loudly blaring a cartoon channel, and the family room was strewn with toys and various items of clothing. In the kitchen, dishes filled the sink, breakfast food was spilled on the counter, the fridge door was open wide, dog food was spilled on the floor, a broken glass lay under the table, and a small pile of sand was spread by the back door. He quickly headed up the stairs, stepping over toys and more piles of clothes, looking for his wife. He was worried she might be ill, or that something serious had happened. He was met with a small trickle of water as it made its way out the bathroom door. As he peered inside he found wet towels, scummy soap, and more toys strewn over the floor. Miles of toilet paper lay in a heap and toothpaste had been smeared over the mirror and walls. As he rushed to the bedroom, he found his wife still curled up in the bed in her pajamas, reading a novel. She looked up at him, smiled, and asked how his day went. He looked at her bewildered and asked: “What happened here today?’” She again smiled and answered, “You know every day when you come home from work and you ask me what in the world I do all day?” “Yes,” was his incredulous reply. She answered, ‘”Well, today I didn’t do it.”
