      Fortunately sharks are sharks because they see right through this kind of thing. They can appear sympathetic on the outside (especially Barbara to people who dropped out of school or Robert to immigrants etc), but beneath that they are still calculating and logical.
      The only exception might be Mark, who sometimes just says "yeah it's a bad deal, but I have so much money that I don't care". There were interviews with sharks where they said that they don't like him because of it, since doing it goes against the primary principle of the show - making financially sound investments.

    • @troooooper100
      @troooooper100 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      yes because there wasn't a reliable way to track which products are being taken by cameras.. food deserts are in low income areas, thus high crime areas. a system that relies on collective goodwill is obviously a bad fit for such areas. As kevin said there are three issues/expenses, but model itself is questionable... why not hire a teenager for 12/hr instead??? why go through 20M invention in low margin business. yes automation is good for low margin but not if it doesn't really work... and so far into the future that requires breakthroughs... this is one step ahead of self checkout.. i think real estate problem is ok... real problem which if exists is distribution.. if companies aren't willing to supply so far away then they will have to roll out their own trucking fleet. which is doable too if done organically and such... but healthy food costs MORE, to bring healthy food in low income area and sell is just not viable... govt should step in subsidize or start non profit grocery chain

      This 💯... I'm from India.. The so called poor nation, but with ample supply of fresh produce. Like no jokes, every street corners have them. Even if you are travelling in highways with nothing in sight, You can be sure to find intermittently some push cart vendor selling coconuts, fruits and veggies .
      Americans prefer to store up and eat food for weeks. Hence they don't need quick access shops. But in India where the population is used to relatively fresh foods and are majorly herbivores, supply of perishables becomes essential.
      It is indeed a cultural problem.

      A mile is a lot in an urban environment- ie an actual city and not the suburbs- where walking, biking and busses are preferred. However he is off, as in reality city residents are around 2-3 miles away from fresh produce (does not count Whole Foods or any other specialty grocery store), and suburbanites are around 4-5 miles away on average. Also the stats he was quoting are specifically about affordable grocery, which this would most likely turn out not to be.

    The guest shark hit on something that I've felt while watching several Shark Tank pitches- if you're really dedicated to a mission that's focused on helping the community, why does that mission need to make you millions of dollars? I feel like it just muddies the waters. If you want to do good in the world, do good in the world. Be an ethical nonprofit, get funding because people support your mission and your message. But if you want to be a business tycoon, generating profit, do that. Yes, be an ethical, honest businessperson who helps the community as much as you can. But if you're turning your desire to help into a way to get people to fund your for-profit business, then it gets a little iffy

    Amazon tried to do what they’re doing on the tech side & failed.
    I question if they actually have the “Ai” part figured out. The truth about Amazon’s autonomous stores was 1000 employees in India reviewing footage.
    They had a plan to reduce the need for human review but bailed on it…. And they have extremely deep pockets to chase an idea.

  • @The92Waffles
    @The92Waffles 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    The idea is great. Cheap pop up shops that serve healthy quality food that can be installed in places that would normally only get a Dollar General at best. I think their issue is just trying to do too many things, when perhaps the micro shop idea in food deserts should be the main and only focus for now

      I feel like it is something that would've been done by one of the big chain grocers or stores if they saw profit in it. I'm not sure even Amazon is making profit from their Amazon go stores, but they have the size to absorb losses and throw money at it. My feeling is that they'll end up with a bunch of run-down unprofitable stores in a few years assuming they don't go the non-profit route. Or they end up going up-scale and becoming just another Foxtrot market.

  • @notredameprime
    @notredameprime 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Lot to take away here: I thought it was a really good idea and they made it seem like it would be really profitable but then the sharks said it isn’t and they didn’t really explain how it’s not profitable and then the owners pulled the black card which doesn’t have anything to do with being bad with financials, curious how it’s not profitable if there’s minimal expenses. Theft? Not enough traffic? Idk

    Regardless of whether we are White or Black, we all share the same humanity. It’s disheartening to see race and color still being used as dividing lines in today’s world. Why can’t we stand together as one nation, united under God, indivisible? My two closest friends are Black, and our shared story is one of striving for success through hard work and integrity, not by diminishing our identities to make a deal. We all deserve to be seen for who we are, not for the color of our skin.

They didn’t get a “deal” but Marc will/is.. and prolly allready did propel them forward in the state of Texas. I hope and wish they succeed and spread throughout the USA/ and the world … because we .. as a people need to eat better, and this business/idea provides that.

    Looking at the comments again now that I've finished watching the video... She mentioned being black so quickly you could hardly catch it. I find it odd that so many commentors fixated on that. It's also a shame that people are criticizing them for their weight. We don't know anything about their personal lifestyles and diet. They could be very healthy eaters- and that would certainly match the mission of their company. But weight doesn't disappear overnight, no matter what you eat. It can take years for your outer appearance to match your lifestyle change. And food is not even the only thing that affects your weight. It seems that these entrepreneurs are being accused of harping on a superficial thing like race- while at the same time being judged for another superficial thing, like their weight... You just can't win with people
