  • The bitzer DT125R 2 stroke is still a poor starter and misfires around 7200 rpm also refuses to idle for any length of time. Now with the carb ruled out as the cause, it's time I looked closer at the cylinder head which is the y4 version later than the y2 version barrel but still 3bn so should not be a real problem. However in a previous era this head has experienced what looks like a broken piston ring, the head could be junk.

    Really great and detailed video. Did this solve your problems?

      The bike runs and starts ok, but the compression figure didn't improve. So in conclusion the work didn't hurt the performance, but the figures showed nothing. Thanks for watching and commenting.

    Did this to mine a few years ago after I got it rebored, cylinder and head had been over torqued and left a gasket imprint, only went to with 800 grit wet and dry paper and it's lasted until now, head gasket has failed but I'm not sure what it's going to look like when I strip it down this weekend. I'll let you know, might try a higher grit this time around.

    Whats the optimal squish for dt 125 ? Is 0.90-95 good?

      @peterh600  ปีที่แล้ว

      Squish zone physics is out of my comfort zone mate, that's why i usually stick to factory defaults, especially when modified road bikes need insurance. The DT125R has a number of 3BN iterations each with slight differences some fit better than others. In this video I only really cleaned the surface there was an indication that the head may have slight distortion from over heat or over torque on one side.
      Anyway thanks for watching and commenting
