Very, very much enjoyed this video and if it’s in the context of your focus, would appreciate learning how to interface the Akai keyboard controller to the DAW. Mixer-interfaces are worth consideration! Like the Flow8 and the Tascam Model 12 (and 16 and 24) which can interface all channels at once (not just two like many similar mixers) are also very worth considering! He's got a Model 12 on his desk there. The Flow8 definitely has the best value though
Thanks, Sunbird Falls Music! I agree - if you want something that helps tie various audio sources and destinations together AND acts as an audio interface, a USB mixer like my Model 12 is a good choice.
I think it’s important to note that your monitors are rear ported and should be on a slant because you’re bouncing said wave off the wall back in to your own face. The AX7 and their higher (staple) models are front ported so it wouldn’t matter. Slanted monitor pads and some acoustic paneling or a sound blanket would be huge. Also, an SM57 with a tube preamp arguably sounds better than a $200 akg condenser with focusrite “preamps”. You’re really buying a sound card with an interface and not preamps. You’re also showcasing DT770s which last time I bought were $230 bucks. For a $100 the Sennheiser HD280s are a steal and workhorses but Sony MDR7506 I think have a better all around sound with warmer bass, both of which beat out equivalent AKG headphones. The DT770s are good for mixing, master, and low level recording like vocals or acoustic. They aren’t isolating enough for rock drums or loud electric guitar. The HD280s are best for loud drums and guitar, the best for all trades for 100. Sony would be better for beat making and production. The DT770s are when you already have some cans. I’m saying this because you’re showing $250 headphones but an $80 keyboard. I’d say skip the MPK mini and just buy a used MPK 249 as everything about it is better including the velocity which will save you a lot of time in post. Also the DT770s NEED a headphone preamp and the Scarlett gives it just enough to work but plugging them in your laptop or phone is damaging to the speakers in the headphones as the preamp it’s powerful enough and using an under powering preamp is more damaging then an over powered preamp at lower volume

Yes. An audio interface can be used to record singing also. You will need a microphone and an audio interface. Alternatively, you can use a USB microphone.
Is there some sort of software that will really work on a vocal? Say that the person is a little older and their voice has that little quiver in it is something that will smooth that out? For instruments recorded together, I recommend a mixing table before the usb sound device. I prefer my computer not to be connected to internet and using Air, Wifi, Bluetooth. As I use old material softwares older are not usable in later versions Of Apple nor Windows systems. So for a beginner you better buy all new at the same time, hardwares as softwares, or All older being compatible together. That's makes me having three sound hardwares, four computers, from windows 95, to Win Seven and two Apple with two incompatibles systems with recent softwares. I have keyboards from the eighties, as recent midi 88 heavy piano keys, and two as not having midi or memory inside. '' the sound must go on '' I'm not interested in technical aspects, but the sounds I can play, and some of them can be find only on some particular synths, or conceptual virtual instruments. In that case so my installation is more delicate, separate two amps, two mixing tables, effects racks, some recording softwares, different in win and apple, and more virtual instruments opened at the same time on different computers, screens and keyboards. In future I will buy some synths by Berhinger, wich are very good remakes of legendar synths and mostly in rack's size so more tiny and easy to use. I have some microphones, one is a dynamic, the others are large membrane one in USB, useful for direct connection to computers. My Headphones and loudspeakers are old, but I have the choice between two pairs of LP, and three Head phones. I support only those who cover the ears, so i've an other chinese one I prefer to them. Around the world most people listen music in mp3 with their smartphone!...they as not have good stereophony , so sometimes, we are the own listening our music in good conditions. Sad!
I haven't invested in studio monitors and continue to use my Bluetooth speakers 2.1 for the sound. Any reason I should give up a good speakers for specialized studio monitors?
It may add a very small amount of latency, but likely an imperceptible amount. You could also use a USB-C to USB-C cable directly to the computer if you find it limiting.
Thanks for the info - I’m just in the beginning process of getting all of my gear and starting out. Could I ask how you connect your akai mpk to your MacBook Pro? Another fantastic video as always man. One counterpoint I'd like to make however on your saying "you can't go wrong with either microphone option", in certain circumstances I might disagree. In the case where one could afford either or even in the case where someone could afford a higher quality condenser, I think it's important to consider the recording environment one has available to them. Well done
I love your videos, they are very informative.👍
Glad you like them!
Just been wondering, where do these guys get these many mics, are they cheap in western countries?
This man is a genius💪🏽💪🏽💪🏽
Can you make a video how you mix the vocal with the beat, so it gets the same "tone" and sound professional?
Surely add your audio interface to a USB hub will add extra latency?
It may add a very small amount of latency, but likely an imperceptible amount. You could also use a USB-C to USB-C cable directly to the computer if you find it limiting.
Don't pass over Reaper. Completely free until you start commercial work. Great vid. Thnx.
This is a very accurate video. Great for building a home studio
How about the UR22C interface?
Fantastic stuff. Does the same apply to voice acting as well?
Thanks for the info - I’m just in the beginning process of getting all of my gear and starting out. Could I ask how you connect your akai mpk to your MacBook Pro? I’ve got an akai mpk249 and I can’t get it to connect to my MacBook Pro - I can get it to connect to my iMac 5K but I’ve tried a number of ways and can’t get it to connect at all to my macbook
Very informative
very helpful
Bro I appreciate your work....And iam glad to see your videos..💗🤩 ..I am beginner film maker ... And I want to know how to record ADR and how to edit ... cause iam bad at sound designing 🥲 can you plzz help me
What was the black box u connected ur interface too?
That’s just a USB hub.
hello my friend, is it not easier to use hardware gear instead of PC as the software may not be easy to use as the gear, what do you think?
What would you rate a pair of Yamaha MSP10's at for monitoring?
I haven’t used them, so I can’t really say. As long as you’re familiar with how they sound, they will be a good tool!
Thanks a bunch.
this is what a structured explanition. Thanks's Kyle
Glad you enjoyed it, Dewa. Thanks for watching!

Hi. Thank you for the video and the list. I am looking into opening a small professional recording studio ( 2 studio). Can I still use these same items for that concept or is this more so "home based" . As a new business owner, I'm looking to invest in good products and upgrade my equipment as I grow my business.
Thank you
