Watching this was far more helpflul than any "How to sculpt a horse" tutorials. Amazing work, I am very excited to start working on a horse model for my diorama
This is super inspiring. Just started clay sculpting at almost 30 and I would love to be half as good as you at your age. Thanks for sharing your work!
Rebecca.. thank you for the complement.. Incredible! Most amazing sculptor!!! WoW! Love how you mostly use your fingers. A marvel to see! They way you build up skeletal and muscular as you go. Master of anatomy! Incredible technique! I've been watching a lot of your videos to learn and be awe struck at your skill. Love also your simple methods and how your full work area is so wonderfully dedicated to creation in clay. I've never done horses before and was working with air dry which is so annoying to use with the fibres. Each piece finished in 4 hours to prevent chalky drying. About to try polymer clay. Looks less wet and less messy! More solid medium too. Thank you ever so much for sharing your talent. Relaxing and enjoyable to watch as well as educational. Truly the best work I've ever seen both in method and finished product. Thank you sir! (From UK)
Back in 1965, in my Ceramics Art Class in High School.. I started in plaster and then in red brick clay.. loved it.. Then my Uncle, who's a renown sculptor, introduced me to Chavant Clay.. It's a Plasticine Clay. I use it to this day.
I loved this video. As I was enjoying how you created this horse in clay, I wondered if you ever drew any pictures and you mentioned you began sketching!
I don't cut out the armature.. this clay isn't ceramic clay.. or super sculpty type of clay.. It's an oil based clay and never hardens.. I use J-Mac medium hard clay from sculpturedepot.net I take the finished clay to a foundry and have it cast into bronze..
That was really a great lesson.👏👍👌👌👌👌 I did it using hard playdough of my kids and the result was awesome. How can I share the image of my work. Its first time in my life made horse body as a sculpture. I'm so happy to do all steps and learn the whole process. 😍
I'm on Facebook.. just friend me.. and you can send me a few photos.. I started as a kid playing with Playdough.. my Grandmother used to make clay for me out of flower or paper mache.. can't remember..it's been almost 70 years.. lol facebook.com/shapesClay/
May I *please* know what kind of clay you use, sir? Because mine's made of pure dirt and it is not quite the best to make these kind of sculptures at all. Thank you for sharing how you make them, I can't wait to get back home and make sculptures like these!

Fantastic each piece seems to be the exact bone or muscle. Thanks

Halyna Myr aww thank you Halyna
You so talented
It's amazing seeing this masterpiece being formed. Wow👏👏👏❤
This clay blends flawlessly 😍 I use polymer clay and it is kinda hard to blend.
It's so inspiring watching you sculpt! :)
Thank you so much.. Just watched a couple of your videos.. You're not bad yourself
Why, thank you! It means a lot coming from you! ^^

Armature to sketching in a full horse in clay. This is another clay sketch for my demo in Colorado...
I loved this video. As I was enjoying how you created this horse in clay, I wondered if you ever drew any pictures and you mentioned you began sketching!
never draw ... lol
I see you live in Montana.. where? I'm in Ennis
I actually live in Ohio but visit Ennis every year. I will be in Ennis in about a week. It is my Dad's home town and I have family and friends there
Let me know and stop by my studio...
Great start, was just wondering what happens with the copper tubing, do you just cut it off once it’s fired? Or will it melt in the firing?
I don't cut out the armature.. this clay isn't ceramic clay.. or super sculpty type of clay.. It's an oil based clay and never hardens.. I use J-Mac medium hard clay from sculpturedepot.net
I take the finished clay to a foundry and have it cast into bronze..
Ok, thank you.
@@lydiagreenartandhorses This one was cast into resin
Hello, do you bake the clay with the metal armature inside ? Doesn't it melt and break the sculpture ?
Never, this is a Plasticine clay.. it would melt and burn.. I have a mold made of it and then cast them in bronze .. when I can afford to do that

@@clayguy1 Wow, that is a real gift she gave to you. I'll definitely send you the images. Thanks a lot taking the time. 🙏
what kind if clay do you use ??
I'm using Chavant's NSP soft clay.. It's a plasticine clay.
You can buy it from sculpturedepot.net
How do you take it out of the armature? Thanks
I don't. The foundry makes the mold of the clay. This is not a ceramic clay. It's a plasticine clay. It would burn if I fired it.

The clay I use is J-Mac medium grade Plasticine clayYou can get it a sculpturedepot.net
@@clayguy1 thank you
