From one fellow sculptor to another, you David are a pleasure to watch. I’ve learned a lot from just watching you work, you have an excellent sense of proportion which only comes with years of experience and practice. Thank you.
Thanks for sharing! This is another fun character. I think l have a thing for old geezers! I hope you make some videos of your exhibit at your upcoming show. 😊
Still observing and learning from your videos. It is so kind of you to share your talent with us. I have now sculpted several cowboys and will start next with your horse sculpture.
Thank you for your complement... I just finished a two DVD set on Creating a horse from scratch.. I'll be announcing the special on that Instructional set this coming week.. that will run through September...
I have been watching your videos and am trying to learn how to sculpt Native Americans. I carve Kachinas but they seem easy compared to sculpting fine facial details. You are the most amazing sculptor I have ever seen. I'm glad I found you!
I love your video and your simple solution for making the hat. Today is my first attempt at sculpting. I can't wait. Your video has inspired me so much. Thank you.

I would THX you so much for your great Channel , David. I´m on the beginning to learn sculpting more professional and your Video´s shows me often how to make it in the right way :-)

Awesome little bust David! But I think I'm gettin a bit seasick from the camera rotating with the turntable. Personal preference is to use the stationary camera, like usual. Brilliant idea about cutting the top of the head off to form the hat to the correct size! I'll have to figure out a way to make your brim idea work with polymer clay.
Amazing, that's all I can say about your work! I do airbrushing but not sure any Saudi would want one of my paintings! LOL I watch a lot of art videos, but I must say, you are a joy to watch, such skill! I know you cast things in bronze, but do you always do that or do you sometimes fire the clay?
@@clayguy1 Thanks David, I knew that in the videos I have watched that was what you were using and I'm vaguely familiar with Plasticine clay, but just wondered if you ever did fire any using clay! Different medium I know. I was introduced to both when taking art classes over the course of my life. Really great work and although I'm no sculpture artist, I really enjoy watching other artists, especially ones like you who are masters of their craft, produce fine art! Thanks for the reply, and thanks for the enjoyment of watching your creations come to life!
It is wonderful to see the new sculpture David. But I remember seeing you do the hat similarly but forming the clay on it first then putting it on the head to anchor it to the figure then using the top of the head to anchor it to the hat since there was clay on both sides. Which would you prefer doing since you had to use screws this time?
I've got a question about the wire/armature you used here. How do you move the head once the clay is applied without distorting the features of the face because of the Armature inside? I see you a couple of times move the face to look in a different direction (left) and I'm assuming the armature must be moving also. Is the armature as soft as the clay? I suppose if I went to the websites you mention and check out the types of armature my questions would be answered. On the other hand you give so much information by just watching your video's it's hard to do anything but watch them.
K Singleton It's copper tubing and not a solid wire so it moves very easily, but is strong enough to hold the head up. The plasticine, is strong enough to cause the armature to move with the clay. It's all good.. lol No distortion.. ever.
You're A Master, and We all Know,That Master's Make It All Seem So Easy.Could Someone Make money with This Trade.?Just Sayin..You Can Really do A Lot with 50 Year's Experence In your Belt,Nice Indeed David. What Year did you Start This Art.And do You also do Mold's Of The Face,'Bust.Body.?? Bravo.*
I started in Kindergarten back in Rhode Island in the early 1950s.. drawing stick figures.. Started sculpting in Highschool in Ceramics class, because I couldn't throw pots... Won three Scholarships... but went in the Navy in 65... Didn't finish my first clay to bronze till 77... Quit my printing job in 81 and went full time. Well till the oil crisis hit.. then I was working for 7-11... for a year.. Was doing good till Obama ruined the economy and had to start over again in 2011... and it's been a bitch since to make any money... Now we have Trump and I've just gotten the first glimmer of hope for selling my work because he's done in about a year that everyone since the first Bush became President... Clinton, the second Bush and Obama really screwed it all up ... If I was to say become an artist... I would say, now is the time as long as Trump is president.. because no matter what the friggin press says.. the economy is on the verge of a boom ... That's my answer.. lol
I sculpt in Plasticine Clay.. J-Mac medium grade here... It never dries.. I had a mold made of it and it was eventually cast into bronze... and Resin. bronzesbydavidlemon.blogspot.com/2016/02/wagon-master-by-david-lemon-edition-of.html
Many thanks for your prompt response David. So often questions go unanswered on these sites! Have just completed my very first bust with regular air dried clay and wondering what to do with it next. It is partially hollow. Hopefully not too thick to fire.

I Have Never Really tried Sculpting with Clay, I work with a Program called ZBrush and it is Digital Sculpting, and I Just Love the Program!! Today I bought a 5LB. Brick of Plasticine and thought that I would try it. Never used it before. We will see what happens?

Well this was 8 years ago.. when I was 69... haha.. I'm to old to be doing shows.. now. But I'm still having fun creating new pieces..
I enjoyed very much to see you doing this sculpture. You are so talented. Thank you

No.. I use an Plasticine clay.. it never hardens and heat would melt it and it would burn..

@@billybubba600 I did in Ceramics class in the 60s in Highschool.. but not since.. that takes a whole new set of skills because of the material..

Lee Hall Yeah.. I got ahead of myself.. if'n I had my druthers... I'd of put the clay on first before attaching it.
The ideea wasn't that the camera should rotate arround the object? not with the object?
You are so Awsome sir !

Another great lesson with great ideas! 👏👌👌 Thanks a lot for sharing your process.
Such good work! congratulations, I have one question though, what do you do to harden your plasticine sculptures to be able to mail them?
They're cast in bronze.. Kind of a long process.. but the clay is destroyed in the process
