- In 1983, SR-71 Without Permission Flew Over France.
On October 25th, 1983, Syria fired SA-5 missiles on an SR-71 Blackbird flying over Lebanon. These missiles were faster than the SR-71 and could reach almost 100,000 feet. So, the SR71 quickly left. Over the Mediterranean Sea, some problems were found in the right engine. The SR-71 slowed down and decided to fly over France "Without Permission" towards the UK. But it was intercepted by a Mirage III that came on the SR-71's left and asked for Diplomatic Clearance Number. The Blackbird RSO flipped the French pilot off instead. The pilot then lit the afterburners and left the Mirage behind. Soon, they were over the English Channel.
This is something that drunk guy in the corner in the pub keeps telling anyone that will listen.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This is a true story, documented in the book Skunk Works. There are also anecdotes of the Swedish Air Force receiving a letter from the CIA acknowledging a radar lock by one of their Viggen fighters sent to intercept another SR71 near their airspace.
It’s an excellent read.
Underrated😢😂❤@@ChancreSaurusRex
Can you imagine the shitty ass war stories French soldiers have been telling their grandkids for the last 80 years? I mean they lost in 2 weeks but somehow the FROGS will claim they won the whole thing lmfao.
Things arent good at home are they?
So one of the engine had a problem and the plane slowed down. But then afterwards it lit the afterburners and left the Mirage behind. So the engine repaired itself in the air?
It proved this is BS😂
Amazing how SR,71 changed into
2 different planes during story
might have been just a bit overheated
Good point ....
A problem is not necessarily something mechanical and severe: it can sometimes be a disturbed airflow that causes engine "hiccups" if operating at high percentage, forcing the plane to slow down. But the problem can disappear at lower speeds / different altitude etc, allowing the plane to resume normal flight.
Back in 1982, an SR71 flew into Mars and left Godzilla in the distance. See, I can make things up just like you.
It happened though, I he got it the from a book, a former SR-71 pilot who wrote a book about his time flying the SR-71. Flying over other countries territory without their knowledge or permission is what the SR-71 was made for. It's a top secret spy plane. It's not a fighter jet used to attack targets. It dosnt carry any weapons to defend itself or attack. It has only special cameras. It's designed to escape fast if it needs to if it gets detected and it can fly much faster and much higher than all the other fighter jets.
Thats how it was built. Especially after the U-2 spy plane got shot down over the Soviet Union. So they made a new spy plane that can fly so fast it can fly faster than any other jet and even missiles fired at it. it's defense is top speed and ability to fly very high altitudes that make it harder for anybody to shoot it down.
Because the SR-71 are flying top secret missions collecting information obviously they won't tell other countries they're flying there and what they're doing. It's top secret.
The SR-71 has secret technology its a plane that is used for only secret spy missions. Everything it does is meant to be a secret. Thats why sometimes they can't or don't ask for permission not to alert others ,it's a secret.

For perspective, a Mirage 3 can fly up to Mach 2.2, and if it fires a 530 at that speed, that 530 can go upwards of Mach 4.5, more than enough to hit a co-speed plane attempting to accelerate.
"Engage the afterburner" doesn't automatically triple your speed instantly.
It's a cool story, but it plays into a Lonesome Cowboy stereotype that makes pilots look like crazy fools.
Cool story bro. Fiction is a crazy thing isn't it
Not cool over France. You really need to treat your friends well.
Yes Im French on this chat I see only American people saying oh the French shouldn’t have done that since they knew it was us aircraft
Amount of fuel SR 71 consumed during this mission was two football fields, it's speed was 17/2 inches per foot and it was quipped with portative coca cola machine with 700 horse power v8 engine with 3 gears automatic transmission.
A good example of how the US despises France whereas France is supposed to be an allied and would have certainly granted permission to a good friend given the circumstances
SR71 @ 30k ft would probably be one of the easiest planes to shoot down.
This is when the United States and Pres. Reagan had our country at all time highs in every category imaginable. The difference between the 80’s and today would be that of watching the demise of the Venezualian government and the collapse there in and that’s where we’re headed.
The US was more powerful in the early 2000s than in the 80s
Reagan sold the last remaining part of your country to lobbies. Effectively changing your "land of the free" to the "land of the bought".
But you're proud of that ? You folks are so clueless about your own demise it would be comical if it weren't such a tragedy...
Wrong, the USA was the strongest at the end of the cold war.
Inlet unstart. You can recover from that, recapture the shockwave on the cone and the engine is back to full thrust.
Bro what voice over software are u using??
@@sahilsam41 Eleven Labs.
The full blown BS injector
I wish there were less channels that used AI voices.
Actually reminds me of when a mosquito flew alongside a flight of spitfires. The mossie pilot cut one engine opened the other and left them in his exhaust smoke!😂
French Pilot: What is your DCN?
US Pilots: 2-1-0-0-M-P-H
Great diplomacy by that pilot!
I hope that both crews faced court martial - American for incredibly arrogant treatment of supposedly allied pilot, and French for not at least painting Americans with the targeting radar (as Swedish Drakken once did.)
An RAF Lightning interceptor gave the yanks a brown trousers moment when it intercepted an as-yet undeclared U2 heading towards Scotland at over 60,000ft
No issue with the USAF, but I've never liked the CIA operating out of the UK.
They probably didn't cause no one cares. They had engine troubles and flew over allied territory even tho they broke international law to get home safely.
No radar needed with Fox 2 missiles.
So I don't really get your point there about the French being to be court-martialed.
And maybe they were given the order not to shoot from their high command (the French knew what the SR-71 looked like, and they already intercepted a U-2 spy plane over their territory, to the surprise of the UASF by the way.
@stitch77100 it was tongue-in-cheek. Everything would be OK if the arrogant Yank in the back seat did not give a birdy to the French colleague, but radioed something like "this was unplanned, Weare taking the shortest route to the base in England." And targeting radar lock just means "boo!".
That Swedish Viggen that obtained a radar lock didn't do it as a threat, but as a warning, "be more careful, guys, you are not invurnerable." Also, like that Stirling engine powered Swedish sub that got right under the American aircraft carrier ass, undetected.
That plane was just going around the world. Nothing to see here folks!
The normal bloody US aushole behaviour!
The actions of 1 individual doesn't represent all of us, dirty down under.
Maverick was flying the plane, so he used some bubblegum and a piece of tin foil to fix the fuse
First 😂from somaliland 😊
Yes, and we're all still waiting for second from Somaliland.;-)
@@thomasbell7033 wow did you know 🥺🥺
What’s that? I heard somalia tho, are they separatists like the Dpr in Ukraine?
Encountering a _Mirage 3_ meant that it was quite far from its maximum altitude. They're lucky that France already knew the origin and ownership of this plane, and that they'd soon be leaving the country anyway without any aggressive maneuvers, otherwise they might have had to try and dodge a _Matra Super 530_ as a souvenir.
Second for BHARAT i.e, 🇮🇳 🇮🇳

It's a beautiful movie but in reality the jet will be down before flying the europ's coast

Over revving an engine that is playing up is called an Italian Tune Up.
They must have been running Weber or Dellorto carbies on the SR71.
How did the SR71 scare off the French jet fighter? He responded in German.
How original and funny. I can't catch my breath while typing this. Wow.
@@nihaoulouloulou3982 He could've said the SR-71 backfired and the Mirage pilot ducked out because he thought they were shooting at him. That better?
@@sarcasticguy4311 I don't think Daniel will understand the sarcasm or the subtle joke at the US expanse in your comment.
It is too subtle, don't forget that the US has no functioning education system to speak of, and only steal the geniuses of other countries for their achievement (going in space and to the moon? German brains (Braun even ;) ). Silicon valley? Asian mathematicians. Armament? Stolen from European brands and built in the USA under license for decades before they got enough knowledge to try their own...
The average is citizen believe his country is alone is the world and responsible for everything great in history. But there are buildings and schools in the rest of the world that are older than the durian colonisation of the Americas... 😂
When de Gaulle withdrew France from NATO and ordered all US troops out, Secretary of State Dean Rusk asked him for clarification, "Does your order include the bodies of American soldiers in France's cemeteries?"
I mean we did save them in 2 different world wars. Saved em twice..
time for read some history book, USA exists thanks to France and litterally did nearly nothing during WW1, only films spreading fake info about USA saving the France,
And you can thank them for your independence
lol, in your dreams, the United States didn't save anything,
1, The French won the First World War, they won the major battles
2, World War II the Red Army won, they killed 80% of nazis .
3, you lost against Vietnamese farmer soldiers armed with obsolete weapons.
😂😂😂
Are you so old that you lived 2 last WW ? Read some history books also, during WW1 USA did nearly nothing even if Hollywood films could say the opposite, facts are facts. And during WW2, yes USA helped alot, but:
1) they were not alone
2) they didnt do this for help only, but more to make more money, let's be honnest.
Same way, France did not helped you with independancy because they were nice, but more to annoy the UK.
SR71 so many videos, no doubt USA has an updated version

I see that this SR-71 crew was keeping up "diplomatic relations"
Those SR-71 scoundrel Yankee air pirates!! Doing whatever they want! They didn't bother to get flyover permissions from Berlin and Vichy.
You know who that was !? Clint Eastwood !
