- Let's harvest summer's first fruits and veggies! My little garden helper joins me as we dig for some of the tiniest potatoes I've ever grown (but they tasted great with dinner!). A few highlights from my Zone 9 garden right now are the peaches, tomatoes, green onions, and basil.
Let me know in the comments what you're harvesting right now. As always, thanks for joining me in the garden and I hope you'll hang around to see what the rest of summer brings! I know I can't wait!

I love this upload since you included the behind-the-scenes of your hard work,
Thanks! The behind the scenes stuff is the fun stuff in the garden!
Nice
Thank you
This is my first year gardening. I thought the bigger my cucumbers got the better! Lol so they got really massive and sadly I can’t enjoy them. You got a great harvest! I loved how helpful your garden helper was haha so adorable.
Thanks!! I thought that about zucchini in the past too! We never stop learning in the garden. It’s one of the things I love about it!
That peach! ❤

Thanks you 😊! They are the juiciest peaches. My husband took one of these baskets to work and many of his coworkers said they were the best peaches they’ve ever had (and I agree!).

Thank you! They are seriously the best peaches!!
peaches look incredible!
Thank you! They tasted so good! I’ve been watching your garden updates too and as much as I’m loving harvest season here, I’m a little jealous that you’re going into winter 😅! It’s so hot here right now 🥵😄
@@herhomeandharvest I think your summers are similar to ours so I know the feeling of struggling with the endless heat. I love winter except for the short days, I'm ready for the sun to be up before we are for the day.
@@growingagardener6770 Oh yes, the sun is rises at 5:30am and sets at 8pm right now. The only thing I enjoy about the sun setting at 4pm during the winter is that I can see all the Christmas lights on my way home from work 😂!
7:13 What is this plant? I don’t recognize the leaves.
Are you planning on making some pesto with all the basil you have? It how I enjoy basil the most.
Ha ha, that would be some fairly neglected oregano 😅. And yes I’m hoping to make pesto this year! I love pesto but I usually use the basil fresh in dishes. I tried to plant a lot more this year so I could make pesto. Let me know if you have any favorite recipes!
You garden in one 9, where are you? I am 9B, Northern Calif Great peaches! I have citrus trees. Do you garden in winter also? If so what do you plant?
I’m also in zone 9b but I’m in Southern California. And yes, I garden through the winter 😊! I’m just getting ready to start my first succession of carrots, lettuce, cabbage and peas. I also grow herbs through the winter. My back hill doesn’t really get any sunlight during the winter though so I’m limited to planting on the patio and the raised beds under the windows because they get the most amount of winter sunlight. What do you grow in our California “cool season”?
I like to grow spinach, kale, carrots, peas and much more. Still have summer things finishing up.
so you don't let your strawberry plants fruit the 1st year? or did I misunderstand?
Yep! I don’t have much experience growing strawberries but a lot of other gardeners say that it helps the plant put energy into growing first rather than producing fruit. That way you’ll get more fruit in future years.
