  • A buddy of mine owns this golf cart and brought it to me to see if I could figure out why it wouldn't charge. Easy fix had him right back up and going.

Good stuff man, thanks for sharing. I've got a 36v club car that's not charging... gonna try to charge the batteries like you said with a normal charger first and then see if the golf cart charger starts charging. One question, I have a normal battery charger that has a 6v option... so I'm assuming I can charge them one at a time on 6v, correct?

Yes you can either charge with the 6 volt option on each battery or to speed things up a bit, do two batteries at the same time using the 12 volt setting as I did in the video. Hope it solves your problem and thanks for watching.

Hey Rus I have an old Club Car in the driveway with the same problem.....won't charge. Probably been months since I tried to get it going again. I didn't know if the problem was the charger or the cart. I'm going to give this a try and see if I can get it going. Thanks for the tip Bud!

Yeah those chargers depend on sensing voltage from the batteries before it will begin to charge, so if your batteries are completely dead, that very well could be the problem. Hope this helps you out Rob and thanks for subbing the new channel!

Great video, Rus! Now, I don't have a golf cart, but if I ever get one, I know who to call!

Thanks Greg! Just a bit of info that I’m sure some golf cart owner will need at some point.

Truck nuts! The new chargers that require a voltage before charging are a bit of a pain in certain situations. We keep an old charger around to help supply power to activate the new charger. Great video Rus

Yeah it’s kinda lame that the charger can’t charge completely dead batteries! My buddy had this issue so there are bound to be other folks that don’t know this about these golf cart chargers so I made this video. Thanks for watching Brian

I hope I didn't confuse anyone, my intent was to explain it so anyone could understand incase they run into this problem but regardless, thanks for watching Bat, I appreciate it!

Great video Rus. I wish I new that last weekend. My neighbor at the campground just spent $800.00 on new batteries because they were completely dead.

Thanks Gary! Batteries still go bad in time, but this cart had pretty new batteries that the owner let run all the way down which caused the 36 volt charger not to kick in. You have to leave some charge in the batteries before the golf cart charger will start charging. Kinda a dump thing if you ask me, but that's how they work. Thanks for watching Gary!

So to summarize, my batteries are completely dead, I need to disconnect the series of batteries and only have the one with the white wire hooked up and then use the charger to get some voltage to that one? And once the one has some life, start hooking up the others? Or do I use standard jumper cables to one of the batteries to give it some juice? Thanks!

You need to put some voltage into every battery using a battery charger just like I did in this video. If using a 12 volt battery charger then you will have to do two batteries in series at the same time unless you have a 6 volt charger, then you can do one at a time, but faster to do two at a time as I did in the video.
