Every time I see his bookshelf in a video I think - that guy who rates bookshelves would roast these and it would be deserved and then I realize.
The doors/glass could be for people with dust allergies in their homes. Makes it easier to keep everything dust free
or people like me who have pet birds that love chewing pages xd

@@DanielGreeneReviews One of my friends uses glass doors on his bookshelves because he has to keep a high humidity in his house to alleviate some medical issues.
Also for someone like me who doesn’t have enough books to justify buying a shelf and has to do with cabinets.

Great video! Hard disagree with Chris's shelf at 12:11. The exposed outlet is the mark of a person who values practicality and pragmatism over aesthetics. The ability to quickly and easily plug and unplug whatever needs plugging or unplugging is worth a lot of value.

The way we do it is plugging in an extension cord. This was you can slide the shelf in front and then stick out the end of the cord the tiniest bit so you can still plug things in;)

I hear ya. Housing market is crazy rite now so we moved to a smaller apartment and now most of my collection is also in a storage unit too. Still doesn't stop me from buying more books, it just slowed it down lol

Oh, I was the second one. That photo was from a few months ago and the bunny is no longer alone as I have more books. Also, that bunny was my favorite childhood stuffed animal that I carried everywhere and slept with every night crushing it against my chest. I can never get rid of it. I also now had a subtle ace flag made out of little yarn octopuses my sister's friend made for me.

That Percy Jackson collection “in plastic” actually comes in a box which isn’t really visible - so they could’ve read them, and just kept them in the box.
(I have the same set and have kept it in the box lol)

In my experience, books that come in a box set never fit back in the box after you're done reading them.

Same! I’m just now working on building back up my bookshelf and while part of me is curious what Daniel’s reaction would be to my shelf’s current state (I’d maybe get up to a D since my cat is often on it), I’m hoping someday I’ll be able to send in something decent instead!

Daniel, you are being too harsh about the glass doors. Books do runaway sometimes when some goblin steal it in the guise of borrowing it or just plain steal it. And then you never see that book again. It is quite sad.

While I share your distain at imprisoning your books, glass shelves are optimal in the humid tropics where the daily dose of dust, sunlight and humidity can really damage your books. Take it from someone living in the equatorial tropics who has had more books at the book clinic than not.

@17:00 I live in thailand, it is very humid and very hot, the doors are there so I can dehumidify the shelves and books and prevent the pages from falling out due to the glue failing
I've got two power outlets in my room.. And one is hidden behind a big shelf that I cannot move around freely.. Sometimes it's better to accept the less aesthetic way over the "how the hell shall I be able to get to my power outlet" feeling
I will never tire of these.

I think the dust thing has been pointed out but I and a lot of others have major dust allergies & having glass doors on our shelves help keep the books dust free, just one less thing to dust too lol Imma go out & buy a funko pop just for Daniel if I ever send in my bookshelves 😘

The glass doors might also be useful if you have a grabby toddler in your home. My 2 yr old godson came to visit one day and... almost destroyed the dust jacket on my Silmarillion while trying to carry it around. I'm not one for putting a barrier in front of my books, but at that moment it seemed like it would have been a good idea. :P
The super deep shelf looks like it is a linen closet. I envy that they have more books and linens.

My mum traded my pram (stroller?) in the mid 80s for the glass doored cabinet - it still has the doors because I can't be arsed to figure out how to remove them. Some of these books have made it through a house fire so it's fine if they get dusty!!

I would love to have my shelf roasted, but since I have new floating shelves I need to put books on those first from my other shelf
My bookshelf consist of a metal shelf from home depot and 4 plastic boxes full of books, no spreedsheet or index on whats in each box, also its on the garage. Im sure Daniel will love it.
