I still remember praying to the Chaos Gods, the day I opened my pack and got my first Chaos Emperor Dragon. @@ShadowArmyDes Depends on the Structure deck. Newer ones tend to include powerful staples like Raigeki being in the Charmer deck. Dinosmasher's Fury has everything for a Dinosaur deck save for the EARTH True King. The Ice Barrier structure deck coming soon looks promising, but more so for the expected staples.
Something I noticed is cyber dragon and cyberdark (plus chimeratech) fits a kind of spiritual succession to chaos, fitting because the cyber dragon and cyberdark entered in yugioh GX, which was full of spiritual succession like funnily, cyber dragon for blue eyes
Magician of Chaos (Ritual Monster lvl 7), and it’s name is treated as Dark Magician on the field. Once per turn, during either players turn, when a card or effect is activated (this is a quick effect), target one card on the field, destroy it.
Norleras had top deck shenanigans with Feather of a Phoenix and The Dark Creator and Phantom of Chaos. Was fun to use. It got nerfed when Reasoning got Limited and Dark Magician of Chaos (pre-errata) got banned. Not the Yata-lock but it was kinda something Chaos Emperor Dragon couldn't and still can't do.

konami needs to just make an official.ruling that replaces any instance of "when a card is sent" to "if a card is sent" and fix the whole problem of cards missing timing for no reason
They did it as a way to slow down the power crept, like the differences between dark world and fabled is timing. Dark world use if discard by effect, fabled use when discarded by cost or effect. But as you can see, danger broke the discard mechanic.
@@greyroot00 That's not so much the wording issue. It's more of Darkworlds having to be discarded during an effect. Whereas the discard cost you pay to activate an effect didn't count.
"When" is specifically printed for balancing. When Lightpulsar was first announced, it's effect said "if" rather than "when". Shortly after the announcement, a few players discovered a busted (at the time) FTK combo involving it, Darkness Metal, and Cannon Soldier. Konami realized it and preemptively erratad the card so the combo was impossible.
@@Shay96 in this game, wording matters a lot. As you said dark world will not activate if discarded as cost, but fabled does. But fabled will only work if the fabled being discarded (as effect) is the last thing that happened at resolution chain (not sure about simultaneous effect such "and if you do" tho). This makes fabled is not outright power crept dark world.
@@greyroot00 The only Fabled monster that can miss timing is Peggulsus. Only optional effects can miss timing, and the rest of the Fabled cards that trigger on discard are mandatory.
If the ancient effect of Chaos Emperor Dragon seems very strong to you, you should see the effect of the Chaos and Ruler in the anime ... that effect is at another level.
Top ten best 0/0 ATK/DEF monsters. That sounds interesting. To be honest, I'm primarily suggesting this because Chaos Necromancer is a card that can get a really high stat really easily. Admittedly, it's a dead draw on the first turn, but still. A few turns in, and it's overpowering stuff like Blue-Eyes off the bat.
Note that also factoring into the power of some of these cards was something that doesn't exist anymore: Ignition Priority. Today, when you successfully summon a monster, there is a window where trigger and fast effects canhappen. "Summon successful" is a closed gamestate. In the past, an ignition effect can be used in this window, such as that of the freshly summoned Brionac or Chaos Sorcerer.
Do top 10 meta decks of all time, with criteria being how strong they were for their time. So any deck that was tier 0 or close to it or just a deck that saw lots of play
Probably something that has been brought up before, but I would love to see chaos extra deck monsters that specifically require at least 1 light and 1 dark monster. ie a fusion that requires 1 of each, synchros that require 1 light tuner and 1+ dark non tuners and vice versa, an xyz that requires a 1 each, and a link that requires 1 each. As far as I'm aware, the only "true" chaos extra deck monsters are chaos goddess and chaotic magical dragon. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong or missing any. Also, not a competitive player, but anyone know if goddess or chaotic magical dragon have seen or see play? Edit: just from reading chaotic dragon, I wouldn't be surprised if it was at least a side deck in decks that run light or dark monsters and can make lv 8 synchros
I created a whole new set of cards to expand the archetype to deal more with banishing with the LIGHT/DARK theme being secondary, so I'm pleased to see a video from you covering this. Maybe in the future we can have a contest to see who in the community can make the best new "Chaos" cards?
when i was a kid i ran chaos sorcerer and all of my friends complained that it was banned but i still played it since it was the only good card i had to shut down their bullshit boss monsters
Black Luster Soldier - Envoy of the Beginning will forever be my favorite Chaos monster and I always have at least one copy in my deck. It’s also the first Yugioh card I ever received
Just to mention on the Yata Lock - you need Sangan on the field when Chaos Emperor Dragon activates its effect, then you search out Yata-Garasu and attack your opponent with it. They can't draw and have no cards so you win by default
In video games, if your opponent is locked down by Yata-Garasu, they auto-surrender. Sangan and Witch of the Black Forest also got errata'd/nerfed anyway so yeah, even if you searched out Yata now, you can't pull off the lock that same turn. You'd need to kill their next draw with something like Drop-Off. Yata-Garasu is a one-card lock-down if your opponent has no field and hand and just can't do anything at all to stop it. Chaos Emperor Dragon + Witch/Sangan back in the day just made it so much easier to pull off. In an old GBA game (was only I think up to the Pharonic Guardian set), with no ban list, a lot of one-sided hand destruction and lots of field removal, that was the Yata lock for the game.
I knew Wyverburster and Collapserpent would be on here. Two of the best generic level 4 floaters in the game. Before Master Rule 4 they helped my Junk Doppel deck go from zero to hero really quick
Considering how much Dark Support there is, I'm wondering if they're ever going to match that with Non-Blue Eyes Light support. Maybe Salvation Knight as apposed to Armageddon Knight?
I think all attributes "knight" monster already exist (at least I see the light one in ocg). But most of their effects is not as Easy to trigger as Armageddon knight
I think you're underestimating Lightpulser Dragons graveyard effect. Sending a light and dark monster from your hand the the graveyard is a really good effect in chaos decks as it gives you more summoning matrieals while also giving you a 2500 beat stick with a good floating effect. I mean it can get you out of some bad situations.
You'd need stuff in your hand that doesn't care about being in the Graveyard for it to be beneficial. Going -2 is far from ideal unless you're gonna win the game that turn.
But with chaos decks you want resources in the graveyard so get two there while getting a monster on the field with a useful floating effect is actually really good. Sometimes going -2 which you're actually only going -1 since you are getting a monster out is more beneficial then keeping cards in your hand.
@@brycebeechman9435 Not quite the point I was trying to make. Like, if you send something from your hand to the Graveyard, it had better serve a better purpose rather than just summoning a monster. You're still going -2 when you can get resources to the Graveyard without going -anything. Armageddon Knight can send you that DARK monster you need without going minus for example as it sends it from your deck (you lose your Normal Summon sure but Special Summoning exists). Dark Grepher's similar but is a minus from your hand so you can send from your deck though it's a very good minus. The point is, you don't want to go minus unless you can get that minus back in some way.
Personally shocked that DMOC didnt make this video. In my eyes DMOC, BLS and CED were always the holy trinity of chaos. The big 3, and then konami nerfed 2 to fuck
Thunder Dragonduo has the ability to special summon itself from the hand by banishing one light and one dark monster from your graveyard. Would it be considered a Chaos card? And what about Magician of Black Chaos? Or Chaos Magician? 👀👀
They nerfed Chaos Emperor Dragon way too hard in the new erratas. - You can't activate any other card effects the turn you would activate it's effect. (Which I believe was the only reasonable change to be made to the card) - Summon condition was changed from "Must first" to just "Must", meaning that you can't summon it with any revival effects e.g. Monster Reborn. - Now does less damage, as it is now based upon just how many cards your opponent has sent to the Graveyard, not both players combined, so it's hardly worth it as a game-finisher card. - It's Limited. They really just wanted to sell Levianeer and the prize card, didn't they...
Well, but we need to admit that the original CED is just to powerfull for the game. So the option is to lock it forever in the banlist (cause I'm quite sure that it will be too broken in any format) or give the errata *But I'm agree, it's being nerfed too much and at once (it might be understandable if it getting to that states after like 5 erratas because it's still too broken somehow. But kill it in one go is just too much
Actually I noticed that if I pulled off CED's effect I tended to win the game even with the errata. It set up the graveyard for me to do other plays and since some chaos decks that aren't chaos dragons aren't the fastest decks in the world, they can afford to wait a turn before taking advantage of other effects. However if you have a chaos deck that wants to banish stuff, the two best monsters for that are still Chaos Sorcerer and BLS. Chaos Dragon Levianeer apparently isn't technically part of the archetype because of a lack of the kanji denoting it as such but that may have changed
Funnily enough, comboing this card with divine dragon lord felgrand and another dark dragon such as red eyes darkness metal dragon (or light and darkness just cuz I'm a klutz player and its a childhood card for me in my deck) and then special summoning felgrand made it extremely useful to get felgrand effect to pop off AND have lightpulsor to defend yourself or play offense if needed
"see's chaos emperor dragon as #1" I guess you never heard of the most powerful chaos monster ever made? It's called Chaos end ruler- envoy of the beginning and the end. mainly because of it's effect of you pay 1000 life points then you banish all cards on your opponents side of the field, their hand and in their graveyard, then for every card banished inflict 500 damage to their life points for every card banished, meaning if you banished 16 cards....you win the duel immediately
Can I extend honorable mentions to Blue-Eyes Chaos MAX Dragon and Blue-Eyes Chaos Dragon, their effects have nothing to do with Chaos monsters but they have Chaos in their name plus they see competitive play using Impcantations as an engine.
You forgot to mention that they also nerfed the burn potential of the CED by changing his effect so that your opponents takes 300 points of damage for all cards sent to only their graveyard so CED's burn potential was cut in half. They could have made it just fine with the previous two nerfs but like with all cards which received erratas they went overboard and made the card garbage.
@@ShiningJudgment666 Exactly, right now BLS is a 1000 time better than CED. There is absolutely no reason to play CED over BLS. BLS aside from being a 3k beater also has two great effects. CED is useless and even if BLS was banned I doubt CED would see any kind of play.
Richard the Pastamancer brought up DMOC, which could have had an honourable mention due to being on the banned list for its effect. Also the new DM re-train, Magician of Chaos, can summon a BLS/Chaos ritual monster with its effect as well. IMO, The perfect time to honourable mention BLS-Super Soldier would have been with BLS-Envoy's section, since it encompasses the effect of Armory Arm already, and has support like Super Soldier Synthesis requiring Light/Dark material. But if you specifically use Beginning/Evening Twilight Knight, designed for it's ritual summon, it would have 5+ effects upon completion.

Awesome channel Duel Logs! Been subbed for a while. I wanted to suggest if you haven't done one a top ten remove from play cards in Yugioh. Also can someone explain the effect of the trap card Elemental Absorber? I'm confused about this cards effect because does the banished monster have to stay removed from play or can I return the monster and my opponent's same attribute monsters still can't attack? Like if I play the trap in my deck can I then use any of my ways to return the monster back to play and still have the effect or does the monster have the stay banished for Elemental Absorber's effect to stay active?
Back when i still played i never even used CED for any massive play, i'd just turtle and whittle my opponents lifepoints down while filling up my field/hand as much as possible so that once CED's effect went through the duel was over. I mean think about it, a full hand and field on your side only already does 4500 lp worth of burn, not counting anything your opponent has or link/pendulum zones. If they also have a stacked field+hand its a insta-win as long as they dont have 9000+ lp.
Chaos archetype is one of my favorite archetype, summoning BLS super soldier using B.knight and ET.knight was insane Super soldier had 2 banishes and 2 attacks which can deal 6k damage on his own if it destroyed at least 1 monster
I understand that the Number C And the CXYZ monsters do require setup to get out, but in many cases, they are really good, and are worth putting the effort in to bring out.
You only need 1 monster on your opponent's field for the BLS Armory Arm combo. BLS' double attack effect doesn't require there be a second monster to attack
Black Luster Soldier Sacred Soldier is actually super good in red eyes decks. It just gets summoned for free if the slash dragon it’s equipped to is destroyed.
Magician of Chaos Dark Magician of Chaos and Magician of Black Chaos which are used by Yugi in the anime, although they don't have that thing about banishing light or dark monsters in order to summon
I think chaos is an "archetype" that consists of light and dark monster that have effect related to banishing something. DMoC banish every monster that he killed, so isn't that enough reason to consider it as chaos monster?
My boy made #3! YEAH! I used to run chaos Sacred Phoenix back in the day, and it was great at locking people down. Until they learned they could use change of heart on my #3 and use its effect on Phoenix xp
I wonder if they can make link monsters to have a defense and no attack cause they way they link arrow points look possible but the difference is that can’t be set face down
Late, but: I feel like you should also raise Levianeers spot and mention the fact that both Levianeer and EotE are searchable by Melody, which is itself a not half bad way of padding your GY if you pull it first turn and can't mill a large amount of cards with the rest of your hand.

I thought Levianeer would have been higher, ANY hand messing is really harsh, And it summons itself using resources in the GY, And it has 3000 atk, And Dark monsters are by far the most popular atm,
I don't understand the concept of missing timing. If you can't fulfill the requirement for the effect, doesn't nothing happen regardless of whether the card says if/when?
I mean, missing the _timing_ has nothing to do with being able to fulfill the effect's requirement, it has to do with the _timing_ of when that requirement is fulfilled. Optional "when" effects ( which will eventually just be "when" effects, because mandatory "when" effects are being errata'd to "if" effects on reprints for clarity ) can _only_ be activated _exactly_ when their requirements are met, which means i.e. when Soul Taker destroys a monster, _then_ gives your opponent LP, "when" effects that activate in response to monster destruction can't activate, because by the time you get a chance to response to the effect's resolution, the last thing to occur is your opponent gaining LP, and not the monster being destroyed. If that doesn't make sense to you, remember that you _cannot_ activate effects in the middle of a Chain. You can only activate effects as the start of a Chain or as the Chain is building, and once that Chain starts resolving, no further effects can be activated until the current Chain finishes resolving. "if" effects aren't all that picky, and will let you activate them as long the requirements have been met sometime between the last opportunity you had to activate an effect and the current moment. "when" effects, however, _are_ picky, and require the _last_ action to have occurred in the game to fulfill their requirements. Something to also note: if an effect says "x and y," "x, and if you do, y," or "x, also y," then those two actions occur "simultaneously" and thus y happening won't stop you from activating a "when" effect in response to x. Meanwhile, "x, then y" and "x, also, after that, y" occur "sequentially," and thus y _will_ stop x from being valid to respond to with a "when" effect. Like said earlier, though, "if" effects don't care, and as long as you don't pass up your opportunity to respond with them, you can activate them regardless. tl;dr: while "if" effects can be activated _if_ the requirements are fulfilled, "when" effects can only be activated exactly _when_ the requirements are fulfilled, and no later. Also, worth keeping in mind that this entirely goes for _activated_ effects. Since Continuous and Unclassified effects apply without using the Chain, none of this matters for them, since, well, you can apply their effects immediately when appropriate and thus they don't require these rules of when you can Chain them to other effects.
@@hi-i-am-atan shhh you're scaring new players. just make it simple, when effects doesn't proc if 1. you used it as material to summon inherent special summon. 2. chain it to make its not the last chain that proc.

Secondly, trying to get a new player into a manually-played game by lying about the rules seems like an absolutely _terrible_ practice. Like, if you're setting house rules for a playgroup, that's one thing, but trying to paint YGO as a simple game when it's a clusterfuck of weird decisions and not especially intuitive rulings is just outright deceptive, not to mention that it hinders people who actually _want_ to get into this mess by drilling in false rules into them that'll like take quite a while to undo, since they used them when forming their fundamental understanding of the game. Like, really. Do you know how people I've encountered that had absolutely no concept of how costs and the Chain work, despite being some of the most _basic_ concepts for how player-to-player interactions work in the game? I mean, it certainly took me _years_ myself to understand it, so I even personally know how damaging it is to avoid explaining fundamental concepts of a game in any real detail.

But DMOC doesn't really care about light or darks. I mean neither does the BLS link I suppose, but I don't think either should be here.
Wasn't Dark Magician of Chaos jumping on and off the ban/restricted list for a couple years?

Chaos Emperor Dragon an Black Luster won me every Game back then in School xD
I like chaos goddess the synchro card i love the artwork and it had a pretty good effect just hard to summon.
I was also thinking that CHAOS was a hidden archetype that's really good on any deck, as long it has LIGHT and DARK in that deck.
Magician of Chaos (Ritual Monster lvl 7), and it’s name is treated as Dark Magician on the field. Once per turn, during either players turn, when a card or effect is activated (this is a quick effect), target one card on the field, destroy it.

chaos emperor dragon: hold my graveyard
Norleras had top deck shenanigans with Feather of a Phoenix and The Dark Creator and Phantom of Chaos. Was fun to use. It got nerfed when Reasoning got Limited and Dark Magician of Chaos (pre-errata) got banned. Not the Yata-lock but it was kinda something Chaos Emperor Dragon couldn't and still can't do.
I like this video because of how you gave Duel Links insight to the discussion and also historical insights (such as the very high placement of Chaos Sorcerer). Chaos Sorcerer will deserve the number 3 spot even more now that it's released in Duel Links.
They should make more dual element special summon cards like this. Like frost fire decks being water and fire. Or earth and air. Etc 😁
Haven't gotten to no.1 yet but who else thinks it is Chaos Emperor Dragon?
It was obvious lol

Yeah he called Chaos Soldier. I don't know why they change it in TCG

My chaos deck was always my absolute favourite deck and also by far the strongest one back in the days when I played against friends. I lost only like two times and built all around my Chaos Dragon and my Chaos Sorcerer.
konami needs to just make an official.ruling that replaces any instance of "when a card is sent" to "if a card is sent" and fix the whole problem of cards missing timing for no reason
Edit: just from reading chaotic dragon, I wouldn't be surprised if it was at least a side deck in decks that run light or dark monsters and can make lv 8 synchros
id love if they made it official and made some support cards for them, itd be a fun deck to play with
I created a whole new set of cards to expand the archetype to deal more with banishing with the LIGHT/DARK theme being secondary, so I'm pleased to see a video from you covering this.
Maybe Salvation Knight as apposed to Armageddon Knight?
yes , allot of dark support but most of them are really trash and useless.
I think all attributes "knight" monster already exist (at least I see the light one in ocg). But most of their effects is not as Easy to trigger as Armageddon knight
@@danielak1666 that does not matter.
The big 3, and then konami nerfed 2 to fuck
envoy of the end is my favorite card ever since it came out its the best !
(Which I believe was the only reasonable change to be made to the card)
- Summon condition was changed from "Must first" to just "Must", meaning that you can't summon it with any revival effects e.g.
So the option is to lock it forever in the banlist (cause I'm quite sure that it will be too broken in any format) or give the errata
*But I'm agree, it's being nerfed too much and at once (it might be understandable if it getting to that states after like 5 erratas because it's still too broken somehow. But kill it in one go is just too much
Dark Magician of Chaos is easily #2 pre-errata right behind Chaos Emperor Dragon.
More homework was needed here.
nah, chaos soldier was more broken that dark maician of chaos, i would give it the theird spot on the list.
BLS is a lot easier to bring out than DMoC. BLS would be number 1 now though. By a fairly sizeable margin.
I like the idea that "chaos" as a card name is an archetype. I mostly play magic so "chaos" is a whole different monster but still hilarious! :D
DragonLink lore
"see's chaos emperor dragon as #1" I guess you never heard of the most powerful chaos monster ever made? It's called Chaos end ruler- envoy of the beginning and the end. mainly because of it's effect of you pay 1000 life points then you banish all cards on your opponents side of the field, their hand and in their graveyard, then for every card banished inflict 500 damage to their life points for every card banished, meaning if you banished 16 cards....you win the duel immediately
That'd be cool and all if it wasn't an anime exclusive.
Raelarial Skystriker from the looks of it, it's not an actual card
Can I extend honorable mentions to Blue-Eyes Chaos MAX Dragon and Blue-Eyes Chaos Dragon, their effects have nothing to do with Chaos monsters but they have Chaos in their name plus they see competitive play using Impcantations as an engine.
Nah bro
I would say the Black Luster Soldier at number 10 is really situational and see less play than Chaos Max. I dont think Duel Links count
Actually Black Luster Soldier is a Chaos monster officially. Cuz it’s OCG name is “Chaos Knight”.
It's still an easy to summon 3k beater but yeah, it's not even close to playable over BLS.
I believe that still chaos emperor dragon is a decent last resort card
13:01 actually that BLS monster can banish any monster whereas chaos sorcerer can banish only face-up monsters
Your opponent will more than likely have face-up monsters.
Actually, Black Luster Soldier’s original name is Chaos Soldier
Been the better part of 20 years and Chaos is still awesome as fuck! Every chance i get i go back to playing chaos and/or zombies when its non competitive.
Still feels good having CED again albeit with an errata, I still play it
Me too, however i might side deck him, and only use him for getting rid of decks that stall, BLS is always a must however im starting to like Chaos Dragon Lev

That is a given , it wasn't called Envoy of the End for no reason.
Basically that is for your opponent
Can you do a top 10 most powerfull decks of all time?
Ahh running chaos redmd decks back In the dueling network days and recking people. Eclipse wyvern i feel shoulda been honorable mention
Chaos archetype is one of my favorite archetype, summoning BLS super soldier using B.knight and ET.knight was insane
Super soldier had 2 banishes and 2 attacks which can deal 6k damage on his own if it destroyed at least 1 monster
I understand that the Number C And the CXYZ monsters do require setup to get out, but in many cases, they are really good, and are worth putting the effort in to bring out.
Magician of black chaos with the dimention fusion. It was otk as well. Magician got erata, and dimention fusion still banned.
What about dark magician of chaos? Back in the hay that was a really good card.
Black and Luster are literally Synonyms for Dark and Light too tho.

Magician of Chaos
Dark Magician of Chaos and Magician of Black Chaos which are used by Yugi in the anime, although they don't have that thing about banishing light or dark monsters in order to summon
I think chaos is an "archetype" that consists of light and dark monster that have effect related to banishing something. DMoC banish every monster that he killed, so isn't that enough reason to consider it as chaos monster?
18:03: Christ! Even if that isn't the original name, that's frickin' BADASS!

@@r3zaful I mean, first off, there's no reason to suggest the OP _is_ a new player. They could easily be someone who already plays but doesn't know the ins and outs of the game.
