Antonio Beardall, I didn't watch the whole cycle, but I kept up with the photo shoots. IMHO, I think that Jenah shouldn't have won.

There are actually rules concerning the entrance of girls to the show- no national campaigns, which the Wendy's ad really should constitute as. In addition to that, the number of connections she had to Tyra, who serves as head judge and producer, made it far too likely that she had favouritism from her.
Experience is one thing, experience that bends or breaks rules, and experience at the hands of the woman judging you? That's another.

The main reason people find it suspicious and label it a scandal is that portions of her experience had direct links to Tyra. When the main judge and producer seems to be in your corner, and you go on to win, that's gonna raise eyebrows.

While I will admit that Saleisha is gorgeous, I would have liked her as a winner more if she actually worked for it and did not break the rules then (even though the rules for participating on ANTM have changed recently, in regards to modelling experience prior to appearing on the show). It seems that the title was more or less handed to her because she already knew Tyra before the show, even though her portfolio was average, and the only photo I liked of her was her Chinese warrior shot. Either way, even if Saleisha did not win, although she did have success somewhat in the fashion industry, like the rest of the ANTM winners, she didn't really become a well-known model, and was just like one of the regular working models in the industry. Either way, even if she won or not, she doesn't have a high fashion look. Her look is more commercial, and she looks more like a pop singer/dancer/actress than a model.
I know that she did not have much work. I said Saleisha SOMEWHAT had success, but I didn't say that Saleisha was really successful and on par with her former competitors Lisa and Chantal. Plus I also said that she became a regular working model, but not a well-known high fashion model. But you're right that she had to turn to acting later.

Looking back, this was the first season (for me) where it really felt like it was rigged. While I'm sure there's consistently been a bit of rigging (because Covergirl has their say), this is the one where it was hard to justify the winner when there were much better models in the competition.
Yeah like Jenah, Chantal, Lisa, Heather all CLEARLY had better portfolios than her. Even EBONY who quit i think 4 or 5 weeks in managed 2 photos (flower & gargoyle) Saleiaha couldn't touch for the entire competition. C9 & 10 were rigged beyond belief.

This is/was nothing new, if you're a real antm fan or Tyra fan you'd remember her saying that not only did Saleisha have experience but that she also already knew her, Tyra had a camp called t-zone and Saleisha was apart of it. She wanted Saleisha on Top Model for awhile so she finally got her on there and Saleisha won. Case Closed.

Lisa and Jenah were my favorites. Tyra was full of shit. "You went to my T-Zone camp, so for that I'm gonna be even harder on you." Not even close. I never felt the same about the show after this bogus cycle.
It was never a secret that Saleisha had experience. The girls mentioned it more than once in the house. A lot of the contestants have done modeling work before and it makes sense they would. Just like on American Idol, most of the contestants have performed and had gigs before, but have not have major record deals.
6:30 the way Tyra talks about Seliesha and the way they looked at her. It’s pretty obvious that she’s the only one who wants her to win sooo bad, the two was like “WHAT? ARE YOU SERIOUS TYRA?”

You know, the show never said that a person couldn't have previous modeling experience. I was watching a marathon today and one of the girls (now I've forgotten who) from the 3rd cycle talked about how she thought she had a bit of an upper hand because she had done some modeling before. Also, according to the CW, she disclosed the Wendy's commercial to them and THEY (not Tyra) decided that it wasn't a modeling campaign and didn't violate the rules
My heart still breaks for the other women thinking they had a fighting chance. 💔

I don't think is fair.
She told them they knew each other and they initially met at TZone Camp. She even said she'd be harder on her and millions of girls are in various runways doesn't mean they are America's Top Model. Saliesha still had to prove she could take edgy, high fashion photos. You just can't be commercial and have a pretty face. I can't even count the number of times Tyra stressed that throughout the show.

@Aprilrosegibbons I think the rules state that the contestants aren't allowed to have appeared in any national campaigns prior to the show, so the Wendy's ad breaks that rule. As for the other appearances, they don't break the rules as far as I know but as someone said it shows that Sal had a relationship with Tyra, which gives her an unfair advantage. Don't know if this was a set-up but it is rather unfair.

Saleisha herself says she's been modeling since she was 15. She was at T-Zone when she was 14. She's been on ANTM Cycle 6 and appeared on Tyra's talk show TWICE. She's known Tyra for as long as she's been modeling. It's unethical.
Tyra said it herself: Saleisha needs ANTM to be a good model. By saying that Tyra proves that even SHE thought Saleisha was bad, because Saleisha already had so much experience and it didnt help her. THIS CYCLE WAS FIXED! ILY JENAH! And at 7:11 Tyra could only say that if she new her. Which she did. That is an obvious advantage over the other girls.
I agree that Heather had a great portfolio, but her condition definitely hindered her. It may not have been fair, so to speak, but at the same time, it wouldn't have been fair to the other girls if she'd gotten special treatment because of her condition. Heather know what was involved going in. I think she's beautiful and hope she has a successful modeling career.

I don't really understand why this is a "scandal." Most of the girls that make it on the show are working models or have had plenty of experience within the modelling world. The show just makes it seem like these are normal everyday women who had little to no experience whatsoever but if you do some quick research you will see most of the contestants have modelled before they were cast on their respective cycles. I will say however, it seems shady that Saleisha had known Tyra and the producers for long before her cycle. Pre-selected winner? Most likely.
Actually it is a scandal. It was not allowed for you to have experience at least few years before the cycle/season (in this case, 9) such as with modelling agency, commercial or advertisement (but they changed the regulations for the past few cycles).
The scandal here was that Tyra already knew Saleisha, on the other hand, one of the main rules was that you were not allowed to participate if you had a nationwide campaign (which Saleisha had), I mean, yes, you are allowed to have some experience (or no experience) at modeling, but it had to be local.

The fact that Tyra steamrolled her through the competition eliminating much better contestants....she won and then it all turned out Saleisha had been on ANTM, the Tyra Banks show, had broken eligibility rules to enter the show...it was an obvious fix.

The contestants are not supposed to have been in a national campaign in the last 5 years. They can have had modeling contracts in past, but being featured nationally is supposed to disqualify them as a contestant. Saleisha clearly was featured in national advertisements, and therefor should not have been allowed on ANTM. These rules can be easily found on the CW website.

My sister and I were saying throughout cycle 9, if Saleisha wins this show is rigged. And sure enough she won. She didn't look high fashion, she didn't take the best pictures... I wanted Lisa and Jenna to duke it out for the finals. I don't think Chantal deserved to be in the final 2 either. Cycle 9 really ruined ANTM for me.

I'm not sure if you guys know this, but on the offical entry rules of ANTM, it says that you cannot have been in any type of advertisment or have done any type of modeling work in the five years prior to auditioning to the show. It is both a fault on Saleisha's part and Tyra's part for not catching that

I guess this is why Saleisha was by far the best model ever to appear on ANTM. You could tell she was going to be a force from her first walk... and her presence was commanding. Come on Tyra, you can't be throwing in real models with amateurs. lol. A win is a win though.

A lot of girls have had modeling experience before being on ANTM. They use it as a way to get more publicity and be seen by more agents. Not to mention if they win, they automatically have contracts. I don't know why everyone is calling Saleisha names. SHE didn't pick herself as the winner. The CW, NOT Tyra or Saleisha allowed her to be on the show. I was watching Cycle 8 the other day and Sarah was talking about how she'd done a runway show
I understand that some cuts are meant to look edgy, but what they did to Jade and Lisa with their poodle-do's....the travesty. It did them No favors. Which is such a shame cause they are both gorgeous. In some ways I do feel that it was done for the opposite effect because they were both incredibly gorgeous, and to give them those looks took a lot away..maybe to "bring them down" to a competitive level so they wouldn't look that much better than the other women. : /
In this way, it's the same feeling I have that the winners are chosen ahead of time, by whoever, Tyra, Cover Girl, other producers. Blah. Still a very entertaining show. I do find it funny though, and very sad that Top Model is basically considered a joke to the true agencies. It makes a lot of sense. But it is still quite sad because all of these girls hang their stars on the hopes of this. When it is so empty. Tyra has never failed to bother me. Conniving and vapid all at once.

Tyra Banks said herself that America's Next Top Model is about giving girls who wouldn't be able to get into the modeling industry by themselves a chance to become models... and Saleisha is already clearly a model.
wait that's not fair...Tyra told the Judges she knows her...when she said "I'm not going to pretend I don't know you. I knew her from TZone Camp." that's when they first initially met. She even said she was going to be harder on her. Just because she had commercial modeling experience before doesn't mean she's America's Top Model. They were extremely tough on her and even said throughout the show that she was too commercial and she couldn't be edgy so if anything she had a disadvantage.

The rules state that the models can't have been in a MAJOR campaign not that they can't have any past experience at all. I'm a model/actress and have done shows and shoots and had small roles in some TV shows but could still enter BNTM cos I haven't been in a major campaign like maxfactor or covergirl (just because you've worked doens't mean you've made it as a model), so no rules were broken
I don't see the problem with Saleisha acting and modeling before going on ANTM? She had a good personality so she should have won. I honestly don't think Tyra was being biased.

Um, no, they didn't bring it up in every episode. Tyra only told the panel that Saleisha had gone to her camp, not that she had been on her television show twice. And Saleisha didn't tell the other girls that fact during the part of the show where she was bragging about all the work she had done in the past.

...Elite Model Management have shortened Stowers' contract to a one-year contract, despite the fact that models are routinely signed to three-year contracts. Elite has also been reported that they will not be sending Stowers for runway castings for New York Fashion Week. Instead, she would most likely be doing sportswear campaigns, as did Jaslene Gonzalez.. (coz jaslene had the same controversy that she had previous modeling experiences before she went into the competition..)
Her wendy's commercial wasn't regarded as an international advertisement. Tyra is not the only person to choose the girls who participate.
If you guys watch that whole season again you'll notice Tyra is ALWAYS backing up Saleisha from the beginning to the end. Beside, she walked for Tyra on her show and also participated in T-Zone, she should have been disqualified right there. Conflict of interest much? Also Saleisha seemed to have known from the start she would win. In the beginning of the season she says to Chantal that they would be the top 2. Thought it was a funny coincidence..

THIS ISNT A SCANDAL! the judges and people on the show already knew about all of her past experiences, but they decided there wasnt enough to count as being a model, so they let her on the show. she didnt keep it a secret or anything, everyone knew and evaluated the situation, and let her on, therefore this is not a scandal. do your research.
It's a scandal becuase:
A) Saleisha had previous exprience that was national (and against the rules)
B) She was in the T-Zone camp and on TYRA, hinting an obvious BFF relationship
C) She won ANTM, despite Chantal (and Jenah) being obviously better and she still wins?

Not everyone here is hating on Saleisha. She is obviously some sort of talent in her own right, that is why she was already so successful in her career when she entered this contest. She was so successful, in fact, that she was not really eligible for this show. Any success garnered after this show is unfair.
Saleisha was an extra in ugly betty and the Wendy's commercial not the star and also when she did the fashion show that the girls watched in cycle 6 (I think) Tyra only arranges for them to go, it's up to the designer to chose who models their clothes and i'm really sure Tyra doesn't sit and hand pick every model that's on her show, she may have recommended Saleisha but in the end it's all up to the designer.

Actually, Saleisha took good pictures. She was an extra on Ugly Betty. So what? She didn't say anything or have a recurring role. She wasn't a guest star. People try too hard to stir up controversy. In the beginning, Lisa was my favorite. I didn't get all the hype about Jenah. I hated that they made her hair platinum and she looked like she needed braces. I liked both Chantal and Saleisha, but Sal walked 1000 circles around Chantal on the runway. She deserved to win

You can say that there is no point in making this fuss, but this comes pretty close to corruption. Beside the fact that Saleisha already had a place in the model industry, national, she was also on very good terms with Tyra and with that you could say she already had it in the bag. There are so many aspects that bother me about this - the whole purpose of the show is to give a girl with potential the chance to get into the industry, someone who wouldn't have gotten that chance otherwise.
I see your point frod.I guess I just don't care for an explanation. Between the 2 finalists,I feel Sal was the best. There was a point in the show when Tyra said that Sal was an OK model but she felt she actually NEEDED ANTM to become successful. Maybe that's the explanation for why

its that the guidlines of ANTM say you aren't allowed to have experience a professional model in a national campaign in the last five years, and the wendy's ad is a national campaign. the other things like runways are fine, but she was also in ugly betty and the MASE video- welcome back.

But you don't know that they only compared a few photos. You only know that the only showed them comparing a few photos. The judges may have compared all the photos, but because of editing, they didn't show them comparing all of them.

Anything is possible, Knightley. Who knows how close Tyra and Sal are? This is the prob I have with all this--is someone watching ANTM then after the winner is announced, checking on the past of that person to make sure they've never done an ad (which could have been done after she actually won but before the show aired) or any other modeling?

She deserved to win, because she improved throughout she show, her looks is stunning, and her runway walk is one of the best in ANTM history.

I'm a black girl and I think that her as should have been disqualified because she broke the rules black people shouldn't have to cheat their way to the top
I don't think it was unfair she had past experience because you can hardly say doing that stuff makes you a "top" model or even gets you near there. Sure being on TV a few times is great but it doesnt make you a top model. But, I do think it's unfair that Tyra, the main judge, may have gotten to know her better and far before any of the other competitors on cycle 9.
Rami was one of the contestants from projec Runway!!! I'm so glad to see that his talent is rewarded... he's doing well.
I didn't realise all this before now. I was never a fan of her,especially after she got that horrendous mushroom haircut. Her winning was definiitely favouritism. She had an unfair disadvantage over the other girls. Unlike the way other types of competition operate, they overlooked her connection with tyra. Just doesn't seem fair when there were other girls who needed the exposure and experience more.
I guess b/c there was more pressure for the last shoot. It was down to the final 3 and all that. The pressure was really on.She's not the first to crack and cry under it. I don't think Mr. Jay every really gets onto anyone about crying.
I don't think the problem is so much that she had modeling experience, but the fact that she had a RELATIONSHIP with Tyra. Call me crazy but how do we know that they always pick the girls' best pictures to compete against each other? The girls themselves don't get a chance to look at their other photos. If they want to eliminate someone, they can easily make up an excuse by choosing one of her bad photos and make it seem like it was a ligitimate reason. Saleisha was Tyra's little project.
