    The Pasig River cuts through Manila, the capital of the Philippines, and is responsible for an estimated 6% of the plastic that makes it into the world's oceans from rivers.
    This decade-old group has approximately 100 people working against the tide of plastic. Every day the group picks up an average of 80 to100 bags of garbage, but they’ve reached up to 1,000 bags in a single day.

    When i was a kid i visit my dad’s family, who is very poor. They wake early ans work all of their waking hours, but eat a LOT of processed foods. I see this with other poor children in the barangay. My mom’s family, on the other hand, is in the province, and they eat a lot of fresh foods that their chef, gardeners, and driver eats, but I wouldnt doubt if they, too, were eating packaged foods on their days off. Packaged/processed food is cheap and easily available, and fortified, and I remember being apalled by the abundance of Nestle billboards. It’s sad. A country of poor consumes a lot of single-use items because it’s the best they can do, and the corporations benefit from their lack of education, lack of work opportunities, and overpopulation.

    • @alisonwalker387
      @alisonwalker387 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Here in my area of town in NC USA it is the same. Getting to the store for fresh foods is so much harder than going a mile up the road for $1 prepackaged food items. We try to make changes, but lack of transportation, even with million dollar homes a few miles away, makes it difficult for us to eat how we'd like to.

There where motels that served breakfast in styrofoam cups and plates, with plastic cutlery. Does it cost too much to wash dishes? Check out youtoub clips where they show living rooms/ childrens rooms: everything littered in plastic: toys for animals, children, a lot of them not even cared for. Plastic is one of the worst things that has happened to our planet. Virginia state entities are banning single-use plastic. I hope the private sector follows suit. If you must buy food or drink in plastic containers, please recycle. Buy reusable grocery bags, they are very strong, and hold a lot of stuff! Reusable stainless steel straws. I wash and reuse ziplock bags until they are no longer usable. So many things people can do!

    Yhup knew it, it's my country. The stench wreaks when you walk on side of the river which can go for miles.
    It's been decades this problem with Pasig; from weak urban planning, a lot of illegal settlers coming from the provinces and poor waste management and sewage system. No former or current administration has ever solved the issue.
    That's why the creek overflows when it's the wet season and it rains non stop, garbage comes out everywhere. Which lead to sickness and disaster. From Dengue to Leptospirosis.
    Just like the lady said. The rubbish is unlimited.
