I have always loved a manual, so I went with the 6MT on my 2024. The one you were driving probably felt low on power because it may not have been “octane learned”. That’s honestly my biggest gripe with this car - even if you always use premium fuel, it resets to a lower boost level every time you get gas, and then has to be “re-octane learned” in order to unlock the full boost map. And quite frequently it will “forget” and revert to the low state of tune even before you’ve used the whole tank. Happens all the time to mine. I’ll get it octane learned, then, the next day, it’s reverted back to low boost. Of course, getting an aftermarket tune fixes this, but you risk losing the great warranty the car has. As far as the cracks and pops, mine has them in spades when the exhaust is set to its most aggressive setting. In fact, I normally don’t run mine in the most aggressive setting because all the crackles and pops are just too much unless I’m out in the middle of nowhere strafing backroads. I think it’s a great car. Definitely likes to be driven aggressively, and will reward you for doing so. Soon, I plan to take mine for a 2-3 day drive through the mountains of East Tennessee and eastern Kentucky and really wring it out. I owned a 2022 EN 6-speed MT. Here are things to keep in mind: * Very jerky and hard to shift smoothly when the AC is on for the first ten minutes. * Takes a while for the engine and tires to warm up. * The car is very skittish and tail happy in the rain, similar to a rear-wheel drive car. * Very thirsty engine and small fuel range. * The seats are very uncomfortable and results in lower back pain after one hour drive. * The pedals are not properly spaced for heel-toe downshifts. * Occasional wheel-hop when shifting from 1st-2nd gear. * The shifter is very rubbery. * The ride quality is very stiff in “N” mode. * No sunroof in the MT, only in the AT which makes no sense.
I own one currently. I agree with most of your points except that I think the car is great on fuel when just cruising on the highway as I can get 38mpg or more if you stay at 70mph or lower. The seats are extremely comfortable for both my wife and I and love them on long road trips. My shifter is nice and crisp and almost feels gated at times. I prefer this shifter over many stick shift cars I have owned.
Exhaust pops were probably lowered for legal reasons. Remember that one guy who got a huge fine for his "aftermarket exhaust" in California? A lot of fighting with local police, money and (surprisingly) zero help from Hyundai themselves - I see why they muted it.

My last two cars were manuals, i keep switching between auto and manual, manuals suck in traffic but with automatics i cant form a bond with the car no matter how nice it is (unless it's an EV). I seriously miss driving a manual car, i wish they make EVs with a manual/auto option kinda like how the ioniq 5N has the manual shift mode, imagine that but with a real shifter and a clutch that you can use whenever you want. I believe that Toyota made a prototype like that
This is actually 35. You can still buy a brand new WRX for less than 30 (before taxes). Or an SI, but, for 30 grand, my choice would be the WRX. But, I ended up going with the 2024 ELANTRA N.
manual is more robust and can handle more power upgrades if that's your thing.. DCT does not pull any harder, just shifts faster and keeps boost up between gear changes.. in manual you dump boost as you depress clutch and needs to repressure/spool., this is why DCT records faster times.. faster changes+keep's boost but does not pull harder at all. for an every day driver im not sure if DCT is best.. crawling in traffic, inching forward is a DCT worst nightmare for its clutch wear. Maybe not fail in first few years but could be problem down the track.
I still find it inexcusable the DCT can't be optioned with adaptive cruise, when it's already available in the Korean market. The US has more highways than anywhere else, and we don't get that incredibly popular feature?
Question topher, if you had to choose what would be the most fun daily for you, this car or the base mustangt GT 2018 and up? I am asking because I going to buy one soon and I am deciding. Great video !
Curious…would you have a new 6MT Elantra N or get a used FK8 for a similar price? Never hear anyone talk about the fact you can get those two for similar price points 🤔
I was wondering if the change in exhaust for the 24 is a result of them fixing the hpfp issues? Like these weren’t recalled, but stock they don’t seem to backfire like previous models. Throwing less fuel in the exhaust?
He has the AC on which is known to make the exhaust pop less on ALL years of the Elantra N. Tons and tons of videos about it from back in 2022 and 2023. The overall volume is slightly lower in the 24 but the pops are the same. All the complaints are way overblown. If you watch any clip of it from outside the car. It is still very loud
Completely different cars, but in terms of fun how does this compare to the ND2 Miata? This is about the only car that’s on my radar if I have to trade in my ND2 because of a growing family. Everything else is too expensive, too serious, or too boring….seems like some shifter bushings and a different rear motor mount and it’d be a great daily

I can’t really speak to the current WRX, but I owned a 2016 WRX for 3 years, and while it was a great car, and very quick on a mountain road, my N is sportier and quicker. And has FAR better brakes!
All they have to do is make this RWD, then it would be undeniable. Nobody else would be making a sporty, manual car/sedan for this price point that also comes in RWD. it would be the car everyone is asking for. You already have the manual, you have the handbrake, you have a nice interior with an engaging display cluster, you have the sport buttons on the steering wheel, dare I say it has the power. Everything on this car is dope, you just have to give people a reason to not get the civic over this. RWD for this price point is how Hyundai would solidify themselves as the drivers car. I believe that Toyota made a prototype like that
It's sad that 30k is considered cheap
This is actually 35.
You can still buy a brand new WRX for less than 30 (before taxes). Or an SI, but, for 30 grand, my choice would be the WRX.
But, I ended up going with the 2024 ELANTRA N.
30k is a very appropriate price for this car. One of the few in the modern era which are appropriate priced
It wouldn't surprise me if they toned down the exhaust because people were getting fined for being in N mode in California.
I like the gearing in this car
Amazing review. Can I ask what watch you're wearing?
manual is more robust and can handle more power upgrades if that's your thing..
Honestly prefer the older design. Had more character. The suspension changes are good. The fact its quieter is disappointing
toning down the exhaust is a good idea. burble tune over run pops are bad.
I still find it inexcusable the DCT can't be optioned with adaptive cruise, when it's already available in the Korean market. The US has more highways than anywhere else, and we don't get that incredibly popular feature?
You don't get highway assist in the DCT just regular cruise.
Which do you prefer? The Elantra N or the WRX?
The EN is nice, but for the same price I'd consider GR86 or BRZ, mainly for the proven record of reliability, resale value, and RWD.
gr86 oil starvation issues more reliable?
@@birriakwakos I believe that issue would only occur when you track it, and was fixed already in gen 2.
@@longshenv5 it is only a gen 2 issue
This flat gray color that every manufacturer is doing these fays is so played out
yep the neutral colors in general are overused. Im glad I got a green car this time around. Super easy to spot in parking lots filled with grey cars
It's not flat.
It's better when they add some flake that makes it look better in the sun. But I agree, need more bright colors.
this is why my VN is performance blue! stands out espically with the pops n bangs. Every car nowadays is white or black or 50 shades of gray.
i bet they toned down the pops due to cops ticketing to remove N/track mode
Question topher, if you had to choose what would be the most fun daily for you, this car or the base mustangt GT 2018 and up? I am asking because I going to buy one soon and I am deciding. Great video !
one of the best options for a hot fwd car
Curious…would you have a new 6MT Elantra N or get a used FK8 for a similar price? Never hear anyone talk about the fact you can get those two for similar price points 🤔
got m VN for 30k used, best bang for buck. Do a resonator delete and downpipe for more amazing noise.
I was wondering if the change in exhaust for the 24 is a result of them fixing the hpfp issues? Like these weren’t recalled, but stock they don’t seem to backfire like previous models. Throwing less fuel in the exhaust?
Bro drives MT better than most so-called "youtube car racer"
18:37 Need a updated CTR video 😄
7:49 exhaust def toned down . Immediately id take one resonator off so I can hear it more and ur good at that point .
@@Symphoniics ok bet ; makes sense thank u 💯
@@Jmarzx Glad I could provide some insight and clarity!
This is such great content
@@Symphoniics same thing on the Kona N.
I would lease this but not buying a Hyundai
Will Topher ever do a Camry review ? Or did I completely miss it 😭
He’s done one or two
I can't find 6MT locally. Kinda wanna replace my 08 Acura TL with it.
You need to purchase one from another state and have it delivered. My friend just did that and got his 6MT at MSRP. He loves it.
They're switching over production. A friend of mine got offered a lot of money to trade his '23 N 6MT in because the dealer said they won't have any Ns in stock for a few months
I would get a manual one
That wheel hop is a deal-breaker for me (I cant afford it)
rear motor mount upgrade is cheap
I kind of prefer the pre-refresh front styling
Here to be the first to comment :D Cant wait to upgrade to the N!
Congrats
Bruh same here, I’ve got a GT too; 2020 though.
@@btchidz The GT is a fantastic car for the money, it's going to be hard getting rid of it since it does everything perfectly! I just want more raw power and I feel that the GT isn't "planted" enough either
@@PetrolJuice yes, I totally agree.
Curious how problematic is the "wheel hop?" Does it happen during hard pulls? Wheel hop is a little disconcerning with a legitimate LSD (limited slip diff).
It’s really only a problem on launch from a stop, otherwise the car hooks up pretty well once it’s rolling
And again, it’s a really easy fix with an aftermarket engine mount
Cheap fix. MY23 EN has a stiffer upper engine mount and lower bushing. Virtually no wheel hop whatsoever.
Man I want one
how would this compare to the wrx simply on fun
(An adjustable AWD system would be even wilder, but more expensive, just give me the RWD)
these are best performance bargain. plenty of kit for the money.. type R is marginally better but not for price difference. just needs firmer engine mounts ($50 and 25 mins) and that's it! type R is marginally better overall but no way for price difference.
How reliable are these once you get past 100,000 mi?
Dubious. We don’t know yet, really. But 100k miles is a LOT and it’s covered under warranty for that whole time. Drive it all the way to the end of the warranty and then trade it in!
Not sure about beyond 100k but a fair amount of people have had to replace engines and transmissions well before the 100k mark.
@@Symphoniics thats what im thinking. A lot of car brands become less reliable after 100k, especially Hyundai, but the Smart Stream engines havent been around long enough to know for sure. Not enough people have these engines over 100k yet. I have a 2024 Elantra N-line and Ill probably trade it in at 100k when the warranty expires
@@hhasteModified maybe, but stock that is super rare. I’ve been in the forums for almost 3 years and engine replacements are VERY rare
@@jackmemphis777Yeah, there aren’t many clear choices for a car to take past 100k miles. Toyota/Lexus and older Honda come to mind, but honestly every manufacturer is having some reliability hiccups these days
Do you prefer This or the Sonata N Line
This, by a mile
Yeah, everyone seemed lukewarm about the sonata. String engine but that's about it.
I test drove the 24 Sonata N-line for an hour and its more comfortable, with softer arm rests and the seats are a little wider. The Elantra is still plenty comfortable and drives better, and a easier to maneuver. Plus the N has an LSD and N-line trims dont get that
Dose it have automatic transmission
2025 Ford Explorer ST please.
what if your speedometer meter screen starts lagging?
wrx and this, very popular with the 20 something year old tuner crowd. too boy racer for this old guy lol!
I can’t believe even these are $37,000 now. I got my new dct N for $33,500
TopherDrives was getting a lot of pops in his video. Strange
It's time to put it back it on the track! lol
when he popped the hood it sounds just like a bmw with the loud ass injectors
It is a BMW lol. You know who designed it right?
@@r3games1985 just because he worked for bmw doesn't mean it is a bmw
A kid in California got his car taken off the road by the state for loud exhaust
I love it but my god does it look weird I prefer the Sonata N-Line 2024/2025 cyberpunk look then this fishy look ngl despite the sonata flaws
Ppl buy the manual we say why is everything auto well they give us manuals and ppl don't buy em smh
Just do a DCT review … manual is boring it doesn’t even pop . Get a SI for manual , Honda is the best for that hands downs .
the manual 100% does lmfao. My (2022) sounded like it was back firing on every shift the pops were so loud. I think C/D even noted they got more sound out of the manual in their first tests of both
I'd much rather have the straight H on the nose...
These would be so cool if they weren’t Hyundais 😂
Yeah… ever since seeing that tiktok of the guy showing off the creaky and cheap interior I’m staying as far away from this company as possible
Nothing cheap about it. What are you talking about?
You should try to visit a dealership and see for yourself. Dont believe everything you see on the internet. I actually have the exclusive elantra (not the n) 2024 - the interior is really nice in terms of quality, and the car is amazing even in 1.6 version sold in Europe
Hyundai had to tone down the exhaust because of people living in dystopian state of california kept getting pulled over due to stock exhaust from previous models lol
Basically, blame the moronic drivers in state of california because they are incapable of driving in normal mode when cops are nearby and kept getting pulled over due to "modified" exhaust noise.

Were only it less deeply ugly.
Its no uglier then an FK8.
WRX is way more fugly.
Lol. 😂🤭
I remember the first year of the fk8 type r being 34k msrp 🥲
