I have the same sage 1 carbon fiber knife. First high end knife I've ever bought. Was absolutely blown away by the quality and craftsmanship of it over the past couple of years. This para 3 52100 carbon fiber make will be my next edc. After having used spyderco knifes for a while now I don't even look at other brands. The knifes are made perfectly for my subjective opinion. Love the brand
Elliott Coker I found a deep carry clip on ebay that works for all of my favorite Spyderco models with the 3 hole pattern clip. I have one on my PM2, Manix 2XL and Gayle Bradley 2, and they all get carried much more because of it. I think I paid around $20-30 for them and I feel like it was money well spent. Take care.
Michael Rogers Yes, I have seen several companies make replacement clips for Spyderco knives. I just cat see paying extra money for a knife already ranging over 100 bucks. I have several Spyderco models and love the company. Just don't carry them very much do to having other knife brands that come with a deep carry clip. I would love to see the Para models come with a deep carry clip option on a sprint run.
TWO THE POINT For me a deep carry clip is a nice thing to have. I work a job where having a knife/knives on my person is not forbidden necessarily. Some clientele would likely be made uncomfortable by seeing it sticking out of my pocket. I've experimented with different setups and found that deep carry goes unnoticed by most but when I carried my Microtech DOC which rides fairly high, it was very quickly noticed. For me, having it on me is more important than being able to extract it as quickly as possible. Just my mileage.
TWO THE POINT Uneducated??? You personally don't know my education level. To me a deep pocket clip always me to get my hand into my pocket easier with a knife clipped on. No need to be disrespectful over my opinion!

So this morning I was thinking about the Delica, wishing they'd make another one with a G10 scale. Then I thought how great it would be if they'd put a more premium steel in it, give it an additional choil to get right behind the cutting edge, and then if they'd upgrade the lock with that really cool compression lock. Then I realized, oh wait, they kind of already just did that.
I think the Para Military 2 is the perfect Spyderco knife and they didn't need to screw around with it. Me personally, I'm waiting for a possible sprint edition in orange before buying. Blade HQ - I hope you see this, hint, hint.
DavidMN Yeah thought about buying it, but I think the lock makes it illegal in Canada because you can flip it open without touching the blade. I can do it with my Para 2 too though so yeah... Canadian laws on knives are preposterous to say the least.
Bibi Green : PM2 is legal in Canada. You're referring to a gravity knife. Customs will hold onto the handle and do the vertical shake test. PM2 only opens when you press on the compression lock. However, there's nothing stopping them from refusing to let the knife in even if it's legal. That's when you might have to stand firm and explain why it's legal. I always bring knives over the border myself versus shipping them because I can defend their legality if I have to.
Damn at 3:39 the knife looks sick with that lighting. The blade looks darker, gunmetal colored. Spyderco should put together a knife like that I'd buy it.
I own a para 2 digi cam with the black but I end up carrying the dragonfly cause its super light and just over a inch of blade difference for the weight its great little knife

kinda makes me wonder!as to why they didn't make the PM2 this size in the 1st place,there is no doubt that this newer model is the perfect size!because there's been a ton of people that customized and chopped there PM2's to downsize its handle to be more practical knife,and also fit inside the pocket a little better,grate review,and thank you.
I really hope that the Para 3 isn't that high of price. If it's what it's predicted to be, it'll be practically the price of the PM2. Other then that, I'm totally digging it. I have the PM2 and love it.
looks like the blade thickness didnt shrink for small edc it needs a thinner blade imo, still gonna have to steap of a price tag to make it worth while
spikekrossa Well, as someone that has a delica 2, delica 4 and a pm2, there's just no comparison to how smooth the pm2 slides open to the delicas. The compression lock I much prefer personally as well, as far as use goes. So while I do strongly hate the pm3 looks, I could understand it being a contender to the delicas.

Why do they not offer a deep pocket carry option with these? The Paramilitary 2 sits high enough as it is. I'd rather they get rid of the lanyard hole and set the clip higher.
I liked the PM2 but it was definitely too big for my EDC. Probably will pick up the PM3 because its small, and I loved the look of the PM2 but not the size.
just my two cents, the para 3 takes many design cues from the paramilitary 2, but at its size would never serve a paramilitary purpose. as you said, it's an edc blade. it may be hard use, but it's definitely not as tactical. hence, the name
I have the minority opinion that the tip is too fragile on the PM2. This looks like a serious improvement in that respect. On my list for sure when they release one with nicer steels!
part of me very much wants this, but at the same time, I'm fairly sure I won't actually like it in hand. I can't stand the 50/50 choil, as I've learned owning a sage 3. effectively the way I'd hold it, it looks to me like it will have significantly less handle room than the delica. if the dropped the 50/50 thing, and moved the grip up the handle, this would be a perfect knife.
...man..i hope they don't start faking these now..the choil seems smaller..which i like..because it's hard to sharpen the bottom of that blade because of the choil sticking out..the handle always seemed too big for the blade..but now its perfect!

Thanks, great review. I'll rather stick with my Sage 1 and my PM2, just not wowed by this knife. The pocket clip on the Para 3 is in fact a bit of a letdown when it comes to concealment.
it doesn't seem like anyone is bringing up the issue of the PM2 being only a decent slicer, then having the same blade thickness on a less wide knife, a smaller knife like this should have significantly less black thickness
If i was designing the para 3 i would have kept the blade length, updated the grips, smoothed the opening action, shrunk the clip just a little, added manix 2 grip traction and a rear striker. And i don't get why Spderco dosen't offer new grips for their knifes. Mine are pretty much slick after a years use, ebay grips are a $100, hell the whole knife wasn't but $110,,,
I wanted to make some wood grips for my para 2 but never came across some nice wood one day. also they could of went FRN and the wire clip that everyone loves me included but with the compression lock that sounds sweet
THEZOMBIEBUNKER People that live somewhere with restrictive laws regarding blade length, overall knife length, can now own a "PM2" in the form of the PM3.
Finally a para that is EDC! That being said, it must have been Friday at 5o'clock as they were turning off the lights and walking out the door when they approved the clip and lanyard tube placement. In my opinion they totally blew it, C'mon Spyderco, although its a great piece it doesnt live up to the hype! if they had just called me when they got stumped here I would have said "just do the right thing boys, slap a Delica clip with the integrated lanyard tube (that nobody uses) on that SOB and you'll have a total winner!" I just dont like having half my knife hanging out of my pocket catching on crap. Even though the wire clip looks cheap (not sexy) I went w the Sage 5. They almost did it! C'mon Spyderco!
Why not call it the militia? I'm sure someone made the suggestion but then again the name has some negative connotations these days. After all Para 3 makes as much sense as the Para 2.
Only real complaint is the pocket clip. Smaller knife with more butt showing doesn't make too much sense. Should have just scrapped the lanyard hole imo, or gone with that weird tenacious/native both in one clip. Probably going to just going to stick with the Sage 5 with that next to perfect wife clip.
Good review man but I think I'll keep my blacked out PM2 in my pocket for now. Nothing about the three excites me. I was pretty pumped to see it and now I'm like ... meh... Don't start going down a shitty path Spyderco... listen to people and we'll buy and keep buying! ;)

They didn't screw around with it. They just made a new version. They did no harm. The PM2 is going no where.

Manix 2 all day long. Just ordered my para 3. Not sure if it will stack up to my standards. Time will tell. Great review. Thank you.

Spyderco is king when it comes to ergonomics. Shrinking the Para 2 was no easy task, if you want it to remain as functional in use.
It's like a deluxe Delica!!!!!, with a choil. They just made a lot of people happy.

I sold my Sage 5 a week after getting it. This PM3 is going to be way better!
I have a PM2 and a Sage One. Gonna pass on the Para 3 for now; maybe when they introduce nicer (than black) scales I'll change my mind.

Not a replacement, no.

I think they call it the Para 3 because the shorter name reflects on the shorter knife. That's the only thing that makes sense to me
