    I served with a lad in the early 90s who went for selection. He was THE fittest lad in my regiment. He'd do the BFT, come first with minutes to spare then run back the route encouraging those behind. A great lad. He got as far as the jungle phase and then binned it two weeks in. He admitted to me that by the jungle phase he was just hanging on by the skin of his teeth and the nail in the coffin was in the jungle, hot, sticky, tired and beyond mentally challenging. Funny enough, a few months after returning to the regiment he PVR'd. Shocked a lot of people. Last heard he went on to be a fireman. And then another lad I served with in the 80s, physically fit, or so he and all of us thought. Binned it the second week of selection. He said he just couldn't hack it mentally or physically and underestimated what was required in selection.

    Not run for years but am almost 60 now lol, but I remember the 26mile endurance run at the end of training that was a requirement for us in the RGJ and LI of the Light Division back in the day with all your gear plus the charlie-g and the jimpy, and all ancillaries, if you failed it they did give you 1 chance before being backsquadded that was a road test the following day, and to be honest no one would fancy either, a rerun while full of sores and webbing burns or doing the last 6 weeks again... before I joined up in '85 I planned and trained with a focus of doing a fast a 8 miler max, was a bit of a shock for a young lad of not quite 18 when I found out the endurance run was that long, but to be honest there were't many 26 milers after training. - but fitness wasnt a problem for me as where I came from I was surrounded in hills, and any old soldier of my generation will know the term 'god made hills to get you fit!'

    Hey Chris you don't know me but I find you very inspirational. My mum's had adverse side effects since the vaccine, she had a cardiogram on Friday and they called today to tell me she has heart inflammation, heart failure which is what's causing her lymphodema to swell out of control. I thought I was strong until today. With everything else going on, I feel broken, again. I'm sure you've been in worse situations and experienced worse things. How do you do it? I'm running on empty.💜🙏

      I dont know how this will sound to you, but im abit outrageous, so here we go - i was briefed by a 007, in 1997, that there was a plan to kill most of the human race. That i would know when the plan was in action because all the streeets would go empty and then all my neighbours will start to dissappear and not be replaced. Some very big powers in the world decided to kill most people, and do all their own work (instead of having us serve them). Its not a particularly new plan, the nazis would have doen the same (and they are almost certainly a large player, in this plan), The proof, i was told, was on The Georgia Guide stones, which speak of the world AFTER the ecent.
      Now, i dont know anythign about the demic, i dont know if i should have the vax or not, i just dont know and am not offering advice.
      But im 54 yrs old, and was shocked to see the streets go empty.
      And ive seen govt "discussing" (teseting the water) on tv, the idea of forcibly vaxing everyone.
      Make your own mind up.

    What Nick is describing sounds like Fartlek. It's good stuff, but the sport scientist in me cringes at all the terminology he's thrown in there :D Laymen's terms: your endurance gains are greater if you put short bursts of speed into your running. Sprint a bit, then walk, then jog, then sprint again and so on.

    No offence to Nick at all, in any way--or at least none indented--but I wonder how many people with heart problems have come out worse from one of his courses.

    I don't care what he's says people like ant Middleton would not look at 23 SAS in the same way!! and the regs don't look at the TA the same either they hate reserves and look down on them fact

    • @ChrisThrall
      @ChrisThrall  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Good point Stu - but just to say, in a commando unit you didn't know who had earned their lid in the RMR (reserves) - until they told you. On active service two of these guys were among the best soldiers in the unit. I have a strong feeling that SAS and other SF guys couldn't care less where you trained - if you can do the job then they will make you part of the team (we made them part of our patrol one time in NI - only they dissapeared into a garden shed and never came out!). Ironically, when I shared a room with two troopers on my first para course, they looked at me with the utmost respect (remember, these guys come from the regular army - and the commandos is always something that a good proportion of regs aspired to). Their buddy (Bob Consiglio) had recently left the marines and joined the SAS and they really respected the guy. Sadly, Bob got killed the next day - the first death in the Gulf War. Thanks for watching the channel mate - super effort!

      @stewartwhite4695 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ChrisThrall thank you for your reply 👍 I didn't know about the RMR you learn something every day👍 again if your an ex reg then that's different again your more likely to get more respect because of that. But I'm telling you reserves do not get treated the same not by the government when it comes to kit or not by the regular soldier the SF might be different although I'm still not convinced! but theTA soldier is looked down on by 80% of regular soldiers sad fact but true mate👍

      😂😂😂 Ant Middleton 😂😂😂 he wasn't even SAS and the SF community haven't got a lot of good to say about him! 😂😂😂 I've served with regs and TA soldiers from the better regiments and there are useless wankers in both! On the whole the TA lads that don't get thinned out are decent motivated blokes! Fact! And many TA lads have done more operational tours in the last 22 years than most of you cold war "warriors"

      My brother was in 1 PARA and he and his mates loathed STABS! I joined the army as a scaley back and worked with a few TA when I was “asked” to help with their MATTS tests so they could get their annual bounty (btw they prefer the title army reserve now) they never really fitted in and no one really took them seriously they would talk about their civvy jobs and how much they were earning on FTRS compared to us! Personally when I hear reserve I just walk the other way!😂 I say walk the other way cause I don’t want my comment removed!!!😢
