The rambling is the best reason to listen to him . He is just like having a old friend tell you a story . Then gets side tracked at the end. I really enjoy listening to this channel thanks for all the great stories and especially the ramblings after.
What is time? This story makes you think about whether time is really linear. As always, I get goosebumps when I listen. You sometimes have such a wild roughness in your voice that conveys the extraordinary, unreal, almost insane nature of a moment in the story particularly well. Conveying this wildness without exaggerating it and then immediately switching to the gentlest tone of voice is truly an art that you have mastered perfectly.
I was just outside having fun with my daughter in law, and behold! Went she drops me off, Tony made a drop, too 😂 Thank you for kicking off the weekend just beautifully 😊
I found it very interesting that the listener could not see the ghost until the ghost saw him. Dinner in the nineteenth century Benson household must have been lively!
Love Tony's narration and this channel. Info on the wonderful authors and his comments about his readings after are also very enjoyable. They really add to the stories. Thank you so much for this class act channel !❤
One of his brothers was called A. C. Benson. He was a master of a Cambridge college and wrote some excellent essays that are an enjoyable read just for the prose alone. I have one volume by him called "From a College Window". He also wrote a few ghost stories which appear in anthologies from time to time.
Tony, just want you to know that I enjoy your 'ramblings' and philosophising!? after the story as much if not more than the story itself! have to go to work now but - later!!!
" I should fidget myself to death if there wasn't the huge, soft cushion of Eternity to lean ones head against...Eternity isn't a quantity, it's a quality." Beautifully put and fabulously narrated, as always.x
Just about to hit the hay and very much look forward to listening to this then Many thanks for all your hard work Tony. Top quality selections and TH-cam besting narration. Cheer, Phil P.S. VOTE LABOUR EVERYONE xxxxx
p.s. hope your wallet turned up. I know the cards are now stopped but it would be good to get at least the wallet back. And anything like library cards etc you may carry.
Really like the story! There is truly many spiritual teachings about the notion that there is no time past or present. If you’re interested, the book the power of now by Eckhart Tolle, addresses a lot of this. Sorry for any misspellings I’m doing dictation. Also, there’s a really cool book about quantum physics called. The biocentric design how life creates reality. Thanks, Tony for another great narration and discussion. 59:16
While I can quite cheerfully fall asleep listening to even a story I really like, I think you could only talk me to sleep if you stopped being so interesting in your ruminations. I love joining up all the disconnected left-over bits of ideas and information from all over the place. It is why I studied and taught Human Biology, I guess.
I think you did well, adding that information regarding the significance of Christian theology to the author. 1. The author's cultural perception of and belief in the finitude of life and existence juxtaposed with what he considered the divine perception of eternity. 2. If one accepts eternity, then ones perception of time expands, and likewise the expands the significance of your moral and ethical choices. Thanks for highlighting the context, it clarified the themes. This story from a century ago and a different culture echoes in eternity as well!
If someone were to start an unofficial Tony Walker -Narrator account on social media, where they exclusively uploaded clips to promote you and your channel, would that be cool or nah?
Infinity..an incredible concept. How can space end out there in space? Does it bump into a big solid block of nothing? A solid block has mass so that IS something. Then what IS space? No end, no beginning. Infinity. A fascinating concept resulting in what seems to be no answer yet to never ending questions.
Ah, Tony... I will never be able to thank you enough for bringing me these incredible, beautiful stories.. EF is one of the writers that I had never heard of, but now think of as a favourite... *You* did that, you absolute legend ❤
You reminded me that at one time I believed I could influence something in the past by praying about it because I believed time meant nothing to God. Not sure I believe that anymore, though. Interesting thoughts. Thanks, Tony.
Gripping, disturbing, thought-provoking also this time around. I believe in time "glitches"--have happened to me a few times over many years . The "I knew it" feeling, not wanting to admit it, because owning up to it is too unsettling, frightening, will be accused of an "overactive imagination" if not out and out lying. Much to process here, Tony. You're the best. Thank you.
Tony a bit of positivity for you - I really appreciated your discussion about eternalism and presentism. I enjoy the conceptual stuff, from my perspective, the more of that the better.
Henry James' protege, E. F. Benson, continued his legacy of chilling tales. i put E.F. on the same level as James as far as ghost stories are concerned.
Great story and narration! I listened to it four times to get the details! Great job! Hope you find your wallet (I would be like a dog with a bone if it happened to me). Your calmness amazes me! You discussed your "The Ghosts of Christmas Past" in your chat. I love that story! It is on my annual list to listen to every year at Chrismas time. Your explanation of time in your chat at the end is timeless.
My thought (unsolicited advice) is you should combine all your channels into one for maximum benefit (most subscribers, combined views, monetization) and just distinguish the different kinds of videos with a dedicated thumbnail type for each. A different color/font for type/genre. Either that or plug your other channels more, but I don’t think that is as effective. Feel free to ignore if this is a bad suggestion. 😊
I enjoyed this story and the discussion. Thanks for posting! I also remember the late-night radio channel. I would put on that channel and use it to help me fall asleep. I've forgotten about it because I stopped getting updates and suggestions for that channel. I'll check out the Dreamy Isles tales and help support the rebrand.
Awesome story. Also after listening to the video where you said the man returned your wallet, when you said, "ah I found two golf balls on the golf course..." it was like real life foreshadowing xD
Loving your channel, thank you for everything! Do you happen to have some audio only uploads? Perhaps offsite even. I like to listen while I play games sometimes, but I play on a toaster so I prefer not to have video playing in the background. Thanks again!
47:47 Speaking of... does someone happen to know why Neutrons sometimes decide to split into a Proton and an Electron? Nice ramblings -- as always... have you told about you KGB experience (and I missed it) yet? Thanks for another nice piece of literature
🌻 I found $1.72 on my service rd. I lose and find all the time in very strange places. I can find lost things for others frequently. It's interesting . I tell people it falls into the abys for a moment . I watched a movie once like that where the floor of a guys car was a direct door to the void where lost things hang out. Lol.
Good thing you blocked your cards. Better safe than sorry. If I'm just walking about in the neighborhood, I ofen just leave my wallet home. Just put an ID on my pocket.

I have always liked E F Benson.
I'm rediscovering him with you narrating many of his brilliant stories.
Story ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

You are HARDLY an amateur anymore, Tony. Thank you for the lovely stories and interesting thoughts that follow.
I love Benson's ideas on time in this story and I've often thought the same: the concept of its beginning and end is very human-centric. Great story!
We exist in an infinite number of "NOWS"

I do often wonder if our known space is in a box (possibly on someone's desk)!!!
That STar Trek episode where an entire universe was in a gem around the neck of a . . . . was it a cat or dog. Anyway, that was an amazing episode.
Kind of gives you the what if vibes.
…. Sapphire and Steel
'Down in the tube station at midnight' (The Jam) is now running through my head...apologies, I'll shut up.
Why not? I can think of worse ear worms…. much, much worse.
That’s why I’m here! The title caught my attention and I thought of the song 🙂

Superb. Loved that. (T. Rex 'New York City' reference at the end or am I just projecting?)
Thank you for another new one. I never hear any background noise, except for the doggos playing occasionally, and that is all part of the podcast!
Just about to hit the hay and very much look forward to listening to this then

Great reading thanks. Much food for thought.
Also did Ludwig tieck write any ghost stories?
I love the clarvoient-like ghost stories! 🔮👻
Wonderful narration ❤
Loved the thought that eternity is about quality not quantity.
Great stuff and very well read, thank you Tony. ❤
Would be a good one to listen to in the tub.

Brilliantly done!
