    Beautiful! I have the 2385, it blows my mind every time I listen to it, these magnificent "monster receivers" are built to outlive there original owners! I listened to this video through the 2385, cool {:-) I believe a 2600 has sold for over $5,000. The 2385, 2500, and 2600 are all worth more now than they were new!!

      @usa4356  10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      2385 is very nice unit too,they will work forever,only capacitors need to be replaced.my 2600 looks like new,less than one year ago it was fully restored

      I had the 2385, too. Beautiful behemoth, served me well for years, but then the pots and switches started getting intermittent and the lamp bezel got yellow and brittle from the heat. Nothing terrible, just not the level of manufacturing quality you'd find in an American made piece of kit, say McIntosh or Audio Research. I know, different price point. Anyway, sold it for $400 in the mid -90s, replace by a MAC 4100, which wasn't much less than what I paid for it new at Uncle Steve's in Newark, $499 in 1981, if memory serves. Great deal.

    The ultimate receiver. I used to sell them when I worked for Leo's Stereo in 1979. They went for 1799.00 If you can find one now they go for close to 20K.

      Not that it matters, but you'd be surprised how good of a source iPod, or even iPhone are. They sound better playing lossless material than almost any sub-500 dollar CD player playing CD's. In fact, my friends could not tell an iphone 4s apart from a 1000 dollar DAC, listening trough 1500 dollar headphones plugged into a 1000 dollar headphone amp, and that setup is more detailed and revealing than almost any speaker set out there, regardless of price. People often bash iPod and iPhone because it's Apple gear, and they assume it's bad, but reality is, they do sound really well for some reason. Even if you look at their measurements, they're extremelly good.

      derbigpr500 " In fact, my friends could not tell an iphone 4s apart from a 1000 dollar DAC, listening trough 1500 dollar headphones plugged into a 1000 dollar headphone amp"
      Some of my friends can not see difference between HD and SD video.one of them told me people buy canon and nikon cameras because they are stupid and walmart's disposable camera takes exactly same pictures.
      "and that setup is more detailed and revealing than almost any speaker set out there,"
      I agree,but how much will cost 12 pairs of good heaphones? (yesterday we had a party of 12)

      If you want sell receiver for $2000 you have spend $200 for parts +labor.this is how today's market works 10% parts and labor 90% profit.like vinyl79 says it would cost so much to build it

    • @davehenderson2632
      @davehenderson2632 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can still buy equipment of this build and quality. Companies are out there. Most of them the average person has never heard of. $20,000 for some of the receivers would be at the very low end of the equipment available. $80,000 and up is more like it. That said, if you seriously want to kick it up a notch, forget vintage stereo. Go quad.

    • @JGofBEWA
      @JGofBEWA 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Dave Henderson this is true. some of the new tube amplifier are brilliant, but very price prohibited. I had a nice Lafayette amp and later a Pioneer reciever in the 70s. By the 90's I got sucked into digital. That $600 Sony piece of crap has sat in its box in my garage for many years. I have 2 vintage setups in my house all of which came from thrift stores Craigslist and garage sales. I will never go digital again, except for a cd player, l have several thousand cds. I mostly buy vinyl now. It's kind of funny they say everything comes back. I couldn't believe my ears when I heard vinyl is back. People getting sick of poor digital quality. Well I digress, you can get good quality if you have $20,000 or a lot more like $1,000 speaker wire.

    • @amplifierexperts1983
      @amplifierexperts1983 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, it's more like $1200 for parts, $5000 for tooling up to fabricate the metal chassis parts, $40,000 for UL and FCC type acceptance testing, and then a slice of the cost of 80 employee's healthcare insurance, unemployment insurance, then government taxes on corporate assets (property tax/capital equipment tax) tax on profits, legal liability law firm costs, etc. In all, about $3.5 million to start up. Anyone want to invest? :)

    The oscilloscope display can be built into these new receivers, in the form of a color LCD with choice of colors to display, and the same fiber optic technology to make the transparent front quadrant panel glow. Seriously, why not build some with this little display. Marantz was ahead of its time during the 70s and early 80s.

    True story
    I Went to the fly market to buy an old amp with i thought woody cabinet will be nice looming sounding one..the guy from the fly market had this marantz 2600 model for $30 and extra model for $20 however it looked too newish and i wanted something with an older look so i didn't take it . I went home check on the net realized this was a big mistake and so its a monster model ( worth also $6k ) so i went back to the fly market ( its 5m walk from my house) and it wasn't there anymore ..Someone else bought it and got lucky :) hope he knows what he got !

    They should make it that the FM display goes out or greatly dims when the input is not FM. How annoying to have that lit all the time the unit is on.

    • @davidjames1684
      @davidjames1684 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@samuelnorton7012 I am just saying there is no need to have the radio frequency display lit up brightly when you are using something like Aux input so maybe have a display button so someone can turn it off if they don't want it. For example, I used to have a 2216B as a kid and would fall asleep with my receiver on but it was too bright so I wish there was a way to turn that off or at least dim it while my sleeptime music was playing.

    I hope you are happy. I removed my post. I find your insults boring and childish. I am sorry that most young people can't handle any opinion that cuts through their very thin skin. All you want is praise, and I'm sorry I could not feed your ego, even though I did at some point say it was a nice piece. I would love to have one of these only restored to it's original condition. I would actually rather have a McIntosh MC275 stereo tube amplifier which McIntosh has been and is still manufacturing for around 60 years. But you probably wouldn't like it because it is the bling of that era, the 1950s. Did I use your terminology for technology "bling" as you called it correctly, when you said I had zero taset, because I liked the original color of the turquoise lights better?
    .
