- Censorship is truly a double edged sword, on one end it's a good thing to censor harmful language and imagery, but on the other end it can be pretty weird and bizarre. So that's what we'll be looking at in this video, some bizarre cases of Ninjago censorship

I found it slightly extreme. Even for Garmadon.
The amount of times this show avoids the words “dead” or “killed” is amazing
Its extraordinary how the characters just close their eyes when they want to say someone died. 💀

There's also other censorships like Pythor telling Tour Guide "shut up and drive" was changed to "Quiet! Let's go, boys."
Another one is in Rebooted and Cryptor's line "That little piece of scrap isn't even fit to tighten my bolts" was cut.
Harumi said "It would've already been mine had your idiot friends not stolen Wu from us" in some countries had the "idiot" removed.
It’s not even that bad tho
None of this was removed in the Ninjago I watched😅

There's a version of never trust a human where Aspheera says "Aspheera you idiot" instead of "Aspheera you fool", but I think it's possible it wasn't censorship, but the broadcasters being sent and older edit of the episode. The word idiot was said on TV while the word fool was said on streaming. You would think it would be the other way around if it was censorship. Also, the word fool flows better in the sentence, which makes me think it was an alternate take they did after deciding the word idiot didn't fit.
There is also a scene in season 8 where Harumi has a line where she says "It would've already been mine had your idiot friends not stolen Wu from us" and in some countries it's changed to "It would've already been mine had your friends not stolen Wu from us"
Let me get this straight, Australia will let a dog man in a toddler show but not someone in a show for older children.

Oddly enough, I am American but when I watched season 1, I specifically recall Zane being IN the fridge. Not the letter, Zane. I guess I watched the British version because I don't remember femboy Jay
They also changed the line "your idiot friends" to just "your friends" in Game of Masks on Netflix. I was so annoyed by that! This is why I stick to DVD, they have the REAL episodes
Also, I usually don't like censorships, but how exactly is it "unfortunate" that Ninjago can't have swearing? I'm a teenager, and I don't like it. One of the great things about Ninjago is that you can watch it without having to worry about characters swearing their heads off for absolutely no reason

In Germany they censored some moments of season 3, rebooted. For example when Pixal built the nindroid army and said 'update complete.' at the end of an episode (don't remember the title) also they removed Zane's flashbacks completely when he got destroyed by the overlord at episode 34, titanium ninja. Plus they removed the scene where the ninja find a part of his face (same episode.)
Source: trust me bro. I remember being confused about what happened to Zane or just what happened in general. And lately I re-watched a few seasons in English and I was very surprised since I have never seen these scenes before.
In episode 1 of crystalized, in the first scene, after the commisiner says "what happened to the old ninja?". it shows a camera looking at him. when the episodes where out on netflix, we could see in the next shot, that there was a crystal spider identifing him. but when the episodes came out on the lego channel, it didnt show the crystal spider, only the shot of the camera identifying him. i thought that was very weird censorship
I think LEGO may have rethought it, and wanted to keep the Crystal King and spiders a secret until later in the season. They couldn’t edit the versions they sent to streaming or TV channels, so they just edited it for when they put it on TH-cam. I don’t think it was really censorship…
In Saudi arabia, they block ALL romance. they didn’t specifically block the ending of skybound, but a lot of other small stuff. Heck, the episode where nya and jay go on a date is completely removed, and the episode "the jade princess." Is completely removed as well from the sons of garmadon.

It's still surprising that Lego allowed the team to show characters drinking alcohol, forced marriage, characters being shot by poison darts and facism.
Here's a funny one, in Israel the first 2 or 3 seasons were voiceovered twice. The first time was when it came out and Zane's name was changed to Shane. I don't know exactly why, but my guess is that it sounds too much like zayn wich means penis. But they fixed it on the 2th voiceover. Don't know why it's not an issue anymore but I grew up with Shane, not with Zane😅
Really I never knew that 😅, and his name was also pronounced as Shane in the hebrew dub of the movie
Another weird case about possession I heard was a inappropriate joke about the preeminent being cut
Also I season 8 in Egypt when Harumi blows up her Castle the just deleted the seen

There was also supposed to be a scene where Pixal is detached and her body parts are scattered, but they scratched this idea because it was too “gory” 💀
4:03 as an australian, i can confirm this scene wasnt censored on netflix australia.
The German version seems to be heavily censored maybe a part 2???
I'm from Germany and the german version is really censored
A few examples
-Zanes funeral and the flashbacks during his death are cut
- The Ninja know Zanes still alive, for that reason Chen 's message said he was captured
-in Season 4 there are Cartoon Sounds in almost every fight
-Delaras faith is unknown
-Nyas last words in Skybound are completely different
-Day of the Departed is called Day of Remembering
-the concept of the Departed Realm doesn't exist in the german version
-Harumis adopted parents are still alive
-Lloyd knows his friends are still alive in the Season 8 finale
-Mistaké is still alive
-Iron Baron is still alive
-the Ninja know Cole survived his fall
i heard in the Arabic dub when jay propose to nya it was change to him asking her to be friends and giving her a gift

Seriously? Censoring marriage?
Wait until you hear about what CN Taiwan did to reruns of the Seabound finale. They removed several lines during Nya's sacrifice and Nya's goodbye (like the "I wish we had more time" including the kiss; the mouthed "I love you"; the "I am Nya I am the sea" line; and Jay's "No don't leave me"). It's as if they're worried the kids would get too sad or something

The fridge censorship was done since a lot of refrigerators, especially in other international territories, have locks on them, and the wall graffiti was also most likely to make other non-English dubs universal like how 4Kids would often remove text, even if it’s in English

I think the overlords final form in crystalized should've been some giant crystal kaiju and make the ultra dragon around the same size as this crystal kaiju and for a final battle that would've been awesome, I want a ninjago kaiju themed wave or just anything kaiju related because the only thing we've seen thats kaiju related from lego is hero factory IFB which was my favorite hero factory wave

You actually missed one, in the first episode of season 1 they are playing the Lego ninjago video game that came out prior to season 1 but in some versions the gameplay is changed to some footage of dragons flying
I'm surprised u didn't talk about another censorship from game of masks when in the Australian version the word "idiot" was removed and Harumi just said "your friends" but in the US version harumi said "You're Idiot friends"

I'd love it if we got a more mature Ninjago special in 2026 for the 15th Anniversary. Set in an alternate continuity, years after a tragic event which caused the Ninja to split. With the special having a few swear words, and some violence. And yes, I know tha this will likely never happen, but a guy can dream. Or even a TMNT Last Ronin type story, where all of the Ninja except Jay, are brutally Murdered, as he continues the fight as a depressed lone warrior.

For some reason I remember the damsel jay scene, Despite living in the UK. I also remember cole mentioning Jay "spazzing out" in skybound.
I do not remember damsel Jay even though i grew up in America. I do, however, remember refrigerator Zane. I remember thinking it was so funny

Another one: the episode one step forward, two steps back was never aired in Russia or Malaysia because of a same-sex couple at the dance off, once again, sheer homophobia ruins something amazing
As an Aussie I’ve seen that episode and I’ve heard Jay say Woah Lloyd’s gone through puberty.? And I’ve also seen the SOG henchman get hot in the crutch

Toggo has the rights to air the episodes at first, and they love to cut scenen out. Wish it funny because on the DVD Release you can watch the scene that where censored for the TV.
Also they like to change Dialogs. For example, in season 9 Mystake died, right?! Wrong, at least for the german Translation Killow said that Mystake could flee when Garmadon tried to capture her.
They also sometimes change the music. In Season 10, Cole's Fall, they decided to add Dialog and change the music. I will never forgive them to destroy such an emotional scene
There is also a censorship from season 12 in the dancing episode because there was 2 girls to be a couple

There was another crotch kick episode that was probably censored in Australia. In Crystallized when Lloyd and Harumi are fighting over the sword, she kicks him in the crotch and he stumbled back, a bit shook, and falls on his bottom. I found it hilarious.
