I totally agree with you about sunshine’s controls. I played it for the first time when 3D all stars came out and I was constantly scared I would end up launching myself off a platform if I moved the controller too much
I was playing 3D all stars sunshine with a few of my buddies, and my friend was raging so hard at the platforming levels lol, he was also saying it felt basically like Mario went too far when he just barely nudged the stick
Super Mario Bros 3 was my first Mario...and it still holds up today, in my opinion. Especially with the Gameboy versions updated graphics, it's timeless.

I can't remember a single level of 3D Land and that's saying something, cause you have to play them all twice, and then the remixed versions twice, to get the final level. 3D World, meanwhile, you can show me one frame from any level, and I can immediately tell you what that level was about, because I'll remember it perfectly.

The thing for Mario sunshine is it's like a nostalgia feeling since it has been my favorite Mario for soooooo long, but when I started on the switch version of it I realized how much harder some of the controls are compared to other games.

Also, Pewds is that example that people who buy the stuff wanna be. You don't want someone who needs it advertising it but someone who has used it and also has a full head of hair. In advertising it doesn't really matter whether the result is due to the product or independent of it. That's for example why fit, skinny people advertise for weight-loss-drinks, even though it's likely their diet and physical exercise that got them that way, but they don't usually mention that part within the ad.
I know it's 2 years too late, but I couldn't find anyone in the comments mention Super Mario 64 DS being missing from the list, though I assume it was just grouped together with the original game in ranking. If it was by itself, perhaps it would've been around B or C tier.
Eh, don't except anything from anyone when making tier lists. People are just gonna put it on number 1 because of nostalgia and ignore the flaws of the game anyways.

Okay, ranking my favorites. #1 - Super Mario Odyssey. Such a cool story, the levels were really neat, it was fun scavenger-hunting for all those moons, and I finally got to play as a Hammer Bro. #2 - Super Mario 3D World. It's classic-style Mario for a modern era. Multiple playable characters, explorable world maps, and a boatload of power-ups. #3 - Super Mario Bros. 3. Also a boatload of power-ups, and plenty of activities on the world maps. #4 - Super Mario Galaxy. Epic game with it's opening and space theme, and Rosalina's introduction. Also that orchestrated music. #5 - Super Mario Land 2. This game is really weird and creative. Going to space, being shrunken to the size of a mouse, exploring a giant mechanical Mario. Also takes some inspiration from Mario World, with secret exits and the spin jump. Now if only it had Yoshi. #6 - Super mario Galaxy 2. It's like a bigger and better Galaxy 1.... but then it's not. Glad it has Yoshi. But completely lost that epic feel, and that big star guy is a poor replacement for Rosalina. #7 - Super Mario World. This has Yoshi, and emphasis on exploring and unlocking levels. Also my favorite castle theme. #8 - Super Mario Bros. 2. I don't care that it's not a "real" Mario. This game is pretty dang neat, with it's throwing mechanic, and the level designs are pretty good, and of course the multiple playable characters. #9 - Super Mario 64. Game can be fun, but neither Mario nor the camera control all that well. And some of the objectives are just dreadfully obnoxious. Though at least you can skip them. Shoutout to the DS version. It could've been the definitive version of Mario 64, if it only had proper analog control. #10 - Super Mario Land. It's like a more creative Super Mario Bros. 1. Explodey enemies and weird locations, and even a couple shoot-em-up levels. #11 - Super Mario Sunshine. First off, I do like the water mechanic. I like the overall tropical theme. But again, so many annoying objectives, and this time, many of them are not optional. And the finale is disappointing, making the playthrough overall not worth it. #12 - New Super Mario Bros. U. The only NSMB game I really played, and I enjoyed it enough. Plenty of level gimmicks. Power-ups were only okay, though. Having two Toad characters was petty lame. And the fact this was basically the Madden of Mario sours my perception on it a bit. As an aside, I haven't played much of New Super Luigi U, so I can't speak for that, though the speedrunny levels seem interesting. #13 - Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels. Also a frustrating game, but I will give it props for having more interesting levels than Super Mario Bros. 1. #14 - Super Mario Bros. 1. It's okay. Set the groundwork for future Mario games. But that's all it is, is the groundwork for future Mario games.
I had such good memories with new super mario bros for the wii. My sister, my best friend and I would play it at like 3:00 am when he slept over and it would be a blast.
Wow, that moment at 17:23 might just explain why people have so much trouble with Mario Sunshine, and games in general! You pressed it ALL THE WAY, and that's how you make Mario run!! You move the analog stick just halfway, or a third, if you want to walk. And for me, Mario Sunshine has the best controls of any game of all time (along with Mario Odyssey), and it's one of my favorite games as a result. 😎
The one you're missing is actually Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island XD I actually think it's the game that links Mario 2 (Mario USA in Japan) to the Mario mythos at large. It reintroduces a lot of Mario 2 enemies such as Shyguys and Sniffits. It was also the precursor to the idea of Mario and co as babies (Hello Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time!) It had a wonderful art style and continued a lot of staples the series is known for (Special coins and collectibles etc.) Since Mario 2 is a dream, couldn't it be that Mario was thinking about things from his past i.e. Yoshi's Island?
Because it’s, like, his opinion, man. Control sunshine is better than only 64, but it’s really just 64’s camera plus there’s a ton that 64 is better than sunshine at. Sunshine is a decent game, but in the scope of mario games, it’s definitely very very close to the bottom if not the worst.
Mario oddysey moons are like star coins with more of a completionist award because you don’t have to pause and go into a hardly used menu to see them, you see them whenever you go to the oddysey, and you can flex on your friends

Mario Land 2: 6 gold coins is the mario game I’ve played over the years. I think I liked the map, so if you struggled on one level, you could have a break and go on another zone. My favourite Game Boy game.
Last I checked; you don't need to get every Shine Sprite in Mario Sunshine and you can choose whichever levels you want to visit, as long as you unlock them.

#12 - New Super Mario Bros. U. The only NSMB game I really played, and I enjoyed it enough. Plenty of level gimmicks. Power-ups were only okay, though. Having two Toad characters was petty lame. And the fact this was basically the Madden of Mario sours my perception on it a bit. As an aside, I haven't played much of New Super Luigi U, so I can't speak for that, though the speedrunny levels seem interesting.
#13 - Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels. Also a frustrating game, but I will give it props for having more interesting levels than Super Mario Bros. 1.
#14 - Super Mario Bros. 1. It's okay. Set the groundwork for future Mario games. But that's all it is, is the groundwork for future Mario games.

I had such good memories with new super mario bros for the wii. My sister, my best friend and I would play it at like 3:00 am when he slept over and it would be a blast.
Wow, that moment at 17:23 might just explain why people have so much trouble with Mario Sunshine, and games in general! You pressed it ALL THE WAY, and that's how you make Mario run!!
You move the analog stick just halfway, or a third, if you want to walk. And for me, Mario Sunshine has the best controls of any game of all time (along with Mario Odyssey), and it's one of my favorite games as a result. 😎

The one you're missing is actually Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island XD
I actually think it's the game that links Mario 2 (Mario USA in Japan) to the Mario mythos at large. It reintroduces a lot of Mario 2 enemies such as Shyguys and Sniffits. It was also the precursor to the idea of Mario and co as babies (Hello Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time!) It had a wonderful art style and continued a lot of staples the series is known for (Special coins and collectibles etc.) Since Mario 2 is a dream, couldn't it be that Mario was thinking about things from his past i.e. Yoshi's Island?
Totally agree that Galaxy feels slow sometimes. I went from Spyro 2 straight to Galaxy and it was really hard to adjust. Loved Galaxy as a kid though.

Because it’s, like, his opinion, man. Control sunshine is better than only 64, but it’s really just 64’s camera plus there’s a ton that 64 is better than sunshine at. Sunshine is a decent game, but in the scope of mario games, it’s definitely very very close to the bottom if not the worst.

Mario oddysey moons are like star coins with more of a completionist award because you don’t have to pause and go into a hardly used menu to see them, you see them whenever you go to the oddysey, and you can flex on your friends

Mario Land 2: 6 gold coins is the mario game I’ve played over the years. I think I liked the map, so if you struggled on one level, you could have a break and go on another zone. My favourite Game Boy game.
Last I checked; you don't need to get every Shine Sprite in Mario Sunshine and you can choose whichever levels you want to visit, as long as you unlock them.
Here’s how I would have done this list:
Add a tier list called never played
Put all of them in there
