    One of the best upgrades for most traeger grills. Easy plug and play install in 10 minutes or less.
    Gives a more accurate temperature reading and regulates temperature much better than the older versions. Fits most Traeger grills that do not have one already installed.
    Also gives you two temperature probes that allows you to check the food temp without having to open the lid and gives you a digital readout display. Reduces Amount Of Messy, Residual Ash.

    I recently upgraded my old old (from Mt Angel Traeger) ‘hi-med-low’ with a digital rtd. New Pot and hot rod. Really easy. I took a pic of wiring to simplify. Love my grill.

    Our grill is a much older model, BBQ070, which uses an analog controller and no display. There are 3 different bridles (fan, motor, hot rod); I notice you mention 4 bridles on your grill, and I wonder if you know what the fourth bridle is for?

    • @rightpedaldown9346
      @rightpedaldown9346 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am trying to do this on the same 070 . I am getting an error 1 on my display. I am assuming its because I dont have an RTD sensor. IDK what that is. Let me know if you figured it out. Thanks.

    • @Etherdave
      @Etherdave 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The RDT temperature sensor seems to monitor the temperature inside the grill. It plugs into a green receptacle on the new circuit board. You will have to order this part, you will need a diagram of the newer model grill showing how to install, and you may have to drill holes for mounting and then routing the sensor wires. The payoff is much more precise control over the grill during cooking, although you now have a much more complicated start-up and shut-down procedure. And yes, without this sensor I don't see how you can get the new board to function. Best of luck, let us know how this goes!

    • @rightpedaldown9346
      @rightpedaldown9346 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Etherdave Thanks for replying. I did google it and ordered that part. I did look at my grill and there are already holes to put the temp probe. Before ordering I did see an answered question that asked if this upgrade would work for the 070 grill and there was no mention of needing this as well. I wish it was included , but understand why it isnt. If just one of the parts goes out, I would have to keep spending $150 when I just need one of the parts. Anyway, Happy smoking and Traeger on!

    It’s so weak that Traeger doesn’t offer a WiFi upgrade for all those dedicated folks that bought their grills only a few years back. Really poor. We know that we pay more for these grills. They are supposed to be “leaders” in this market. Perhaps not any more.

    • @live.life.simple.

    Great video. Question: Why didn't you install the RTD sensor that came with it? Are they all the same or something? I'm coming from traeger elite and wondering if the RTD is any different.

    • @live.life.simple.
      @live.life.simple.  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That was everything in the package! There are possibly different control versions for different models.

    • @mikefanick6522
      @mikefanick6522 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The Pro controller (Blue) is an upgrade from the (Red) controller. It doesn't come with a new RTD. You would need to buy that separate if you were upgrading from one of the old models otherwise they figured you already had one installed. The Red controller upgrade does come with a new RTD as it is an upgrade from the original controller which only had low, medium and high settings and didn't come with a RTD. I think both controller upgrades should come with a new RTD but Traeger didn't think so.

    • @rightpedaldown9346
      @rightpedaldown9346 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      what is a "RTD " sensor? I am doing this upgrade from the old 3 setting style and dont have those wires. the display showes error 1

    • @mikefanick6522
      @mikefanick6522 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@rightpedaldown9346 the red led controller comes with a new RDT (thermometer that installs inside the grill on the left hand side). If you bought the blue led controller it is the upgrade to the red controller and does not come with a new RDT. (The blue led controller has the two temperature meat probes. The red led does not.)

    • @anoblemind
      @anoblemind 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      RTD stands for Resistance Temperature Detector. They are simply a resister that varies resistance in an electrical circuit measured in Ohms by temperature variation. As the temperature changes the resistance in ohms changes. Failure is rare on RTD’s. 48 years industrial electrician here.
