    Unbeknownst to me I was doing this almost every day in traffic trying to find out how slow can I go without my feet touching the ground. Never knew this was a thing. I also started doing footless stops after watching Zack Courts doing them in the Daily Rider videos. It isn't hard, it's all about practice and getting used to the bike you're riding. When people look down, whether walking, running skiing or any other sport, the inner ear loses touch with which way is up. This induces vertigo and loss of precise balance and spatial awareness. Hey man, thanks for the all the useful videos, that takes a lot of dedication. Keep it up!
    Ah, this reminds me of the "ippon bashi" test in Japan. "Relax and go slower!" says the instructor, as you try to cross this small bridge as slow as possible.
    One eco-friendly exercise they make you practice if you can't get a handle on the motorcycle on that particular test:
    1 - Park the bike in 1st gear against a wall (front wheel pressing against the wall)
    2 - Pull the side stand up
    3 - Seat on the bike, proper knee grip, try to keep your lower body as still as possible
    4 - Look ahead, not down
    5 - With small movements, PUSH on the handlebars to keep balance, do not PULL (since this affects your upper body more, making it more difficulty)
    At first you struggle, using lots of strength to keep the bike straight, but as the body position and movement comes together, you will find yourself just barely wiggling the handlebars to keep balance. I know, I failed 3 times at this exact thing LOL

    I adjusted the clutch lever because it was way firm and difficult for me to operate it. Did uturn practice but was getting frustrated because my grip strength was less and less every turn. I'm noticing that I'm coasting into the start of my uturns and should really be getting used to revving and feeling the friction zone. Frig I know I was killing it last year but my grip wasn't as weak as it is now. It's more challenging and interesting to me doing the slow speed stuff than doing highway slogs just cruising. Good video man. ✌🙏

    I could not agree with you more. As in most things, the slower you can do it the better. I have been practicing holding a stop or slow go at stop signs and lights for many years. It is impressive to cagers that you do not put your feet down. You see them watching you. Then also in the dirt is is great to practice slow go in your line to change direction whenever you want. As always, it is a forever thing to practice. I love free riding in dirt and slab but its fun just to practice skills to keep and increase your skill, as it IS perishable. I have been riding many years but always ride better after a little practice session. GREAT vid my friend as usual. Thank you for always having great content for all skill levels.

    Track stands in my vernacular. I use a brake to lock up the front wheel while applying pedal power to the rear. Don't really need to rock the handlebars much (usually just sort of lock them up as if in a sharp left hand turn) as it is more a balance of the interactions of pressures between the wheels. Haven't pulled it off on the motorcycle yet but I can sit for a short time at less than 1 mph when necessary. Usually annoys car drivers as they seem to think I'm not stopped unless my foot goes down. Gets to be a stand off.

    In bicycle track racing they do what's called a track stand, which is balancing at a standstill. They do it while standing to make it easier, and their bikes have no brakes and their gears won't turn independent of the pedals so they just push back and forth on the pedals to do it. When riding in cleats, your feet are locked to the pedals and I often use a track stand to stop at a light without releasing my cleats.

    Standstill... front break and turn your handlebar you provide a lot more friction on your front tire (your handlebar need to be turn to have balance)... if you lose balance go forward use rear break to slow down. Thank you for your video and knowledge fast eddie.

    Man, stay still and breathe is the best advice. I've started using a lot of basic yoga breathing techniques while riding, perhaps you can do an entire video on just regulating your breathing while riding? I found breathing out before a tough corner/potentially hazardous situation helps me remain calm, not twitch and make the right calls, look in the right place.

    • @MotoJitsu
      @MotoJitsu  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      the MSF doesn't require you to balance at zero mph. To be released from the class, you'd have to be doing a lot of things wrong or you were a safety hazard for yourself or others.

      @coplock6689 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@MotoJitsu Yes you're correct they don't require you to balance at zero, but the instructor said I was having trouble balancing the bike and he did not feel comfortable letting me continue the course. He asked me the last time I rode a bicycle. I told him over 35 years ago. He said that's the problem. Boom, I was done.

    • @MotoJitsu
      @MotoJitsu  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yup, if you can't balance and are close to always dropping it or hurting yourself or someone else, can't ride the path of travel, keep a safe distance between yourself and someone else, I'd drop you too.
      Go ride a bicycle for a while before going back, you'll learn a lot.

    another great way to practice lots without abusing the clutch is practising on a slope. Just downhills with very small gradient!

    That's something every rider should practice, not only for showing off, since ppl tend to do because it's nice, but because it helps you get dialed in with your bicycle or motorcycle, always saving you some trouble, since you can just dump de the clutch and gas it, if something bad is about to happen

    I ride for Uber eats so I put at least 100 city miles a day on my moto. So many city lights that I try to do this at most of the lights for fun. I didn’t realize how beneficial this would be to my other aspects of riding. Specifically low speed u turns. Knowing where the bike will start to tip, knowing how to feed the clutch out and blip the throttle at the right moment in order to stay in control of the motorcycle is something that has made me so much more confident.

Even the exact thing you mentioned in the video which is I stop a little short before a red light to see if I can make it all the way through to the green light inching forward. I had no idea other people did this. LoL. I just thought it was my weird brain that did silly random stuff like this.

    Short riders skill right there. I have to slide my butt to tiptoe one foot down. I learned to no-foot down stop at stop signs where there is very little traffic just to take some of the work out of riding. The upside is that it really sharpens your balancing skills and that can help your overall riding.
