- Blackgang Chine is the oldest amusement park in the UK and is located on the Isle Of Wight. The park first opened in 1843 and is named after a now destroyed coastal ravine. In this vlog we visit Blackgang Chine for the first time and discover the different themed areas that make up this land of imagination.
The park is home to only 3 rides, however these are just an extra in comparison to the magnificent themed lands across the park. These different lands are full of interactive exhibits, walk-through attractions and some very impressive theming. In this vlog we explore The Underwater Kingdom, Cowboy Town, Restricted Area 5, Rumpus Mansion and much more along with having plenty of laughs along the way.

stonecold31619 - Yes! I loved the Weather Wizard! We went to the Isle of Wight ever year as a kid and my Nan used to tell me to ask the Weather Wizard nicely for a sunny week!
I was terrified of the Weather Wizard - I never spoke about him due to his threat to send a cloud to rain on you if you told anyone about him 😂 I grew up on the Island and loved Blackgang Chine. Rumpus Mansion was my favourite which weirdly never scared me. Growing up on the Island (which is a bit weird in a good way in many places) in the 80s with Blackgang and films like Labyrinth left me with an intensely vivid imagination!

I'm so happy Rumpus Mansion is still there though, that was my favourite. So scary, but also so magical, I loved the Celtic music towards the end, just made is so magical. I swear I'm more excited that the kids 😂

We had such a fun day here, it has to be one of the best days we've ever had at a park!

THANK YOU my wife and I are so excited, we took our children here when they were young, all in the Twenties now, this is going to be a great trip down memory lane, also to see what's new, and a Vlog one half hours long what fun, we've opene the wine ready for another great armchair Trip. Well just had the armchair trip, and what a trip, You two have given us a thousand reasons to head back to Blackgang Chine, so many memories, the pet shop the mansion , wild west, fairy land and so many new wonders. Time is so precious and finite in our scale thank you for spending your time and effort to give us our magic moments that time could steal!!
The funniest part was when Shawn got stuck in the Mouth of hell and Alex took over and Shawn caught up. Two words: Camera Now

I feel pretty sad watching this as almost all of the things I loved about the place as a kid is gone. I have a lot of nostalgia for Blackgang but it has changed so much.
Garry Williams most of what I remember is probably in the sea now due to erosion. The toadstools, dinosaurs, model village
they recently got rid of The Weather Wizard and the liquorice house I believe. They still have dinosaurs but not the ones you can climb on anymore.

I have been there many times. In the early 80's, the park was so much bigger.
The cowboy town was a huge attraction in its own right.
Alas, the majority of it has fallen into the sea, but this has not stopped the owners from providing a worthwhile family attraction! Great for youngsters! Great Vlog, thank you for taking the time and effort to provide an amusing upload.

Visited this park many times on holiday as a child and it really hasn't changed much at all. Brought back many happy memories thanks for sharing Shawn.👍🏻
I went there a while ago and it was so much fun! All of it seemed so amazing and I love the idea that they had with the fairy 🧚♀️ land and the cowboy place too!
This park really reminds me of the Forbidden Corner in Yorkshire! It's very similar with lots of highly themed walkthroughs, with animatronics, hidden lore, and a great creepy vibe that terrified me as a kid! Well worth looking into visiting if you enjoyed it here so much.
That's somewhere that we'll have to check out!

I loved blackgang chine when i went when i was 11 for the first time (school trip) cliffhanger was hilarious. Had to put my egg mayo wrap down
I went here as a kid. I particularly remember the talking bins.

Brings back so many childhood memories....... I you go in the school holidays or July August time that would be full!! That man at the entrance has been there the whole time I have been going and I'm 26 in August.

There was a scare attraction at Fantasy Island where you had to crawl down low. Also I have been to Blackgang Chine before but it was a long time ago.
Hi Shawn, another great vlog with Alex, looks like you had the park to yourselves, shame looking at the erosion pics as I've been there in 1975 and 86 ,I remember the wild west area and didn't know it fell into the sea ,also remember my father getting lost in the hedge maze ,very fond memories ,good to see that the park is still going strong ,keep up the good work ,that underwater area looks amazing .the dinosaurs looked very scary back in 75 Shawn.

I’ve been here, It’s worth a trip but it’s Expensive as a round trip, Cliffhanger is ok, Offers nice views! Glad to see you get it on the map tho, I’m prob due a visit!
Loved this one favourite bit in crooked house when you saw the woman lol “oh hellooooooo” haha love the IOW would love too see a vlog if it again if you go back love the zoos over there, really enjoy Brighton Vlogs too these places may not be as big as others but the amount of charm and uniqueness makes them so special

Such a classic childhood park
Visit the Isle of Wight every year and it’s a brilliant place.
This brings back so many memories. I've been there twice in 1990 when I was 4 and '98 when I was 12. We had a similar thing in Southend-on-sea called 'Never Never Land' which had various fairytale attractions but it closed down in the early 2000's. But some parts of it still remain like the castle fountain.
Never Never Land was great, wasn't it? It was my favourite thing in Southend.
@@graemecassidy5647 Same. I loved the Merlin Animatronic and the Masters of the Universe attraction which had He-Man Action figures coming alive.
I think those were my two favourites too, as well as the illuminated csstles. The dragon was great.
I've been there loads of Times as I have family on the isle of Wight and I really want to visit again before it disappears and I can remember me and my sister having fun at blackgang chine and want to visit again
Went to this place so many times during the 80's and 90's loved this place, unfortunatly as of this year the cliff edge is now about 10 meters from the maze edge.
Haven't been there for 25+ years but looks like they've done a lot to keep it looking fresh. Has brought back many memories. Thanks!

Went to Blackgang Chine as a kid and totally loved it. All the dinosaurs used to be statues. Now they're animatronics. I can remember the Nursery Land too. Its nice to see it again on your video!

This video was awesome! I live on the island so we get the frequent visitor passes to go to the parks. The park is amazing at night as the whole park is lit up and they have firework displays and laser shows it is amazing. The park changes almost every year as the cliff slips and so they have to keep moving parts back or leaving them to slip away. It is such a good park 😄😄
We plan on visiting again this summer!

Loved your Blog. I've been going to the IOW since a child from 1976, and always visited Blackgang Chine. Obviously it's changed a hell of a lot through the years due to cliff falls and land movement. Bit it's how they move attractions and keep creating new areas every year that keeps this magical place so wonderful. The history of Blackgang Chine is what makes it such an exclusive theme park, and it will be a very sad day when, eventually it will close it's doors for the last time, hopefully not for many years tho.
If you search Blackgang Chine on TH-cam there are many many videos of the Chine going back many many years, so you get to see what it used to be like, and get a scale of how much land has been lost, and how they have adapted over the last 175 years.

Went there with school in 1994 months after one of the big landslides, was great fun as a kid in the 90's, amazing how attractions like the pet shop and crooked house are still there and unaltered, as a kid, seeing the attractions that had gone over the edge in the landslide seemed exciting too. As an adult though, it's sad that it is on an ever decreasing coastline and always under threat of such natural decay, lets hope the park lives on a long time and nature is kind to it.

I went here when area 5 first came out I think it was 3 years ago and I can remember being 10 going around the park being absolutely amazed because of all the animatronics. My mum tried to make me and my little brother who was 7 at the time go in rumpus mansion and we couldn’t as it was too scary. It’s amazing to see how many memories this takes me back to like being at the top of cliff hanger and seeing all the views and some things have changed: there used to be a dodo enclosure by the crooked house and u could press buttons and the dodos would do different things like blowing up tnt, there was no underwater adventure, the hall of mirrors used to be a run down pub that told u more about the history I think, the cowboy town had less buildings, there was a fairy quest somewhere where u had to look around at the different season fairy’s. Thanks to this video it has made me really happy because I can remember a really good day of my life and hopefully after my holiday this year to somewhere else we can come back to isle of white and visit black gang chine once again

Want to know a funny story? My family took me here when i was really young and thought i would love it... they apparently forgot i was terrified of mannequins, statues and robotics. I screamed the place down and spent most of the day with my head under a blanket xD
It certainly does have some freaky elements but that's what makes it!

Shawn it looks amazing great vlog hopefully from your vid a lot of family's will visit it if I'm ever in that area I would definitely give it a visit with my 3 kids they are 17 14 and 11 and they would love it and loved the talking bin hilarious the amount of detail is incredible in each zone well worth the money special the duel park tickets

This place is iconic childhood! I remember going in about 2009 or 2010 and loving the pet shop, i used to say that the donkey was my pet and i always sang the song that the animals hummed😂 as for the crooked house that was just traumatic😂its so nice to see that they havent changed the pet shop in particular because i loved that!
not sure if it's still there but I visited there in 2006 and there Is a gun in a draw behind the bar in the saloon brilliant bit of detail i think!

I remember trips here thirty years ago. Alot of the original chine fell into the sea so really pleased to see the site is doing so well. Really enjoyed watching your video.
A little bit of an overstatement to actually compare the walkthrough areas to De Efteling, which is really on a different level in terms of theming and quality of story-telling. Don't get me wrong, it seems like a cute little park, and I'd like to visit, if I ever get the chance, but it's just nowhere near the quality of De Efteling.
If you want to see a Dutch park that's a bit like this, go and visit Sprookjesbos Valkenburg (it's in the South, you could combine it on an Efteling/Toverland/Phantasialand trip). Or maybe go and check out some of the little german Freizeitparks with their low-quality darkrides and random bits of theming. Still really enjoyed the vlog, but I just needed to say that.
Reminds me of a lot of smaller parks back home in Denmark like Brændegårdshaven. Those parks always have some nice charm to them

It does remind me of the Fairytale Forest in the Efteling. Like you said, Efteling is an indepentent organization aswell and it really leaves alot of room for weirdness. Also , smaller budgets usuallly cause alot of creativity and it really shows here. Looks like a park I would have really enjoyed as a kid as i did the Efteling (And myself and my 10 year old still do! )

You should visit sundown! Yes it's got no coasters but it has tracked rides and dark rides. It looks like this. It might also be owned by the same people, I'm not quite sure.

Blackgang Chine is so cool and unique! A park that seems similar and you should do a vlog of is Sundown Adventureland in Retford, UK. They have a bunch of classic themed attractions and dark rides and it's one of the UK parks that you haven't done yet.
