My titanium Penguin has a reversible wire clip and 20CV. Plus it has a flipper tab. I like it better than this new one.

Oh absolutely yours is 🔥...but it's also in a different price class to be fair. And I *think* the 20-CV models came out after the 154CMs when I did this vid, but regardless, thanks for stropping by to check it out and comment! 👊✌

Great review. I tried to switch a damascus into my titanium but discovered what you just described. Couldn’t do it, different bearings

Oh snap...I've had very mixed luck doing blade swaps - probably successful about 1/2 the time (The one notable exception: I've never had a problem swapping any Hinderer blade). Thanks for stropping by to watch and comment!

Great video!! Are you able to “Spidey Flick” your titanium one? The reason I ask is because I also own these two models, and can flick the micarta one super easy. The titanium one however is a complete no go for the Spidey Flick. I can thumb flip it open with no problems, but can’t get it to Spidey Flick it at all. Just curious if yours is like that.

Right-handed Spydie flick works OK on the Ti version for me - I hadn't realized I forgot to work that into the video until your post. Of course, with the frame lock, lefties are entirely excluded because the thumb locks the detent ball into the detent hole...one more advantage for lefties to go OG in addition to the pocket clip.

Just got my titanium today and the detent is stiffer than my micarta version. Makes spidey flicking tougher.
My titanium blade is also not flat like the micarta version

One drop of KPL on the detent ball (and work it in a few times) always helps - I pretty much do that with all knives with a detent ball. As for the potentially poor grind on the blade, that's in the range of return-worthy in my book - you might contact the vendor to pursue a swap if it's defective.

Awesome video! Did you get your ti version at bladehq?

Yes, I did get the Ti version at BHQ.

how is this knife for lefies? Does it flick open as easily as the D2 version?

I just took it out to test, and it's terrible to spydie flick for lefties - the position of the pocket clip (also small too) isn't placed well to take your thumb off the lock bar. Now as for the thumb stud deployment with the left-handed thumb, all is good in the hood. Thanks for asking.

I did enjoy the denim micarta one, gave it to my brother and missed it ever since. Waiting on the ti version to arrive as a replacement. Thanks for the review!

I think you will enjoy the Ti one too. *After the fact correction*: I went back and watched this one, and realized I called the green linen micarta green jean micarta. The blue one that I use is the denim jean micarta. Thanks for subliminally reminding me 😎.

154cm has better edge retention than d2 and is overall a better steel.

By my own experience (most of my 154cm use has been w/Pro-Techs and Hogues), 154cm hasn't held an edge near as long as my D2 knives. But on the flip side, 154cm and its particle metallurgy counterpart cpm-154 are a dream to sharpen up to razor sharp in no time - D2 takes me almost as much time as 20CV/M390. As for the other two pillars (stainlessness and toughness), you are right...so yeah, I agree it is overall a better steel than D2.

@@MitchBollig From testing I've seen hardness and edge retention have more to do with heat treatment than metallurgy. Even 440 can perform better than high end steels depending on how they're treated.
