Thank you for the video. Love the way you keep trays "labeled " and how you store your seeds. Great ideas

As always you have taught me more organizing skills. I am still working on the freezer meal organizing and now I will also work on my garden organization.

I so appreciate this video! I've been thinking about trying a container garden again, and this gave me a lot of growing information that some other creators don't get into because they're much more advanced than I.

I’ve used many seed starting mixes. I’m just using regular potting mix now

That’s great! Do you find much of a difference when starting small, delicate seeds?

@@FromtheRootsUp I notice they germinate faster. Other than that, no difference.
Think of it this way, if tiny seeds can be planted outdoors directly into soil, so can seeds you grow indoors.
The only reason we start seeds indoors is to have a longer growing season for crops that take longer in your area.

Hey Maria! Are you staying warm there?!

Yes. Enjoying a nice warm fire.
I really want to get chickens this year, but then I would have to go out in this cold. 😅 I'm sure it will be worth it!

It is worth it! But man it’s been a fight the past few days keeping all their water thawed. At least for us these temps are only a few days per year!

So you said that making my own seed starting mix is more cost effective for quality as well as cost. Do you have recommendations for each ingredient? I don’t know which options are worth the money. Trying to keep costs as low as possible. I hate the idea of having to buy consumable products at all, so when I HAVE to, I want to keep costs LOW. And I’ll probably tend to buy in BULK as well.

I haven’t noticed much of a difference in quality of brands when it comes to the specific ingredients. You should be able to find big 4 cubic feet bags of perlite and vermiculite at your local garden center or Lowe’s/Home Depot. Peat is cheap and easy to find most anywhere in large sizes. The one thing you should pay attention to is the size of your vermiculite. They offer bigger chunks or finer ground, I prefer the finer ground version because it’s easier to mix, but either works. Hope that helps!
