    Floyd biting the puppets is such a Floyd thing to do.

    I think Ace's real issue is that he feels like Kalim isn't taking the danger their friends are in seriously. Ace may not look or act like it, but he is SUPER protective of people he cares about, hence why he's so quick to jump to fighting (I'd be the same). But Kalim meanwhile is likely desensitized to high stakes situations like this. This boy has been kidnapped so many times throughout childhood that he can laugh it off like it was just a quirky part of life. That would explain why he's more into talking things out. From what he's learned, if you get kidnapped, it's for a reason, and he wants to know that reason.

      Lol reminds me of the Halloween event. Ace getting upset because he was so worried about Deuce and Yuu disappearing, then it turns out to not have been that serious. Deuce and Yuu are having fun while Ace is just vexed with how they didn't take it seriously. Like No Ace I see you! And I want to tease him like the other students did when they pointed out that he's upset that he was worried about them the entire time but won't admit him. Just like a tsundere 😂

      just because Kalim's resolution isnt violence doesnt mean Kalim isnt one hundred percent taking this seriously tho, this is Kalim taking this seriously, and Kalim laughing off his kidnapping doesnt make the kidnapping less awful but thats what he wants you to think - Kalim is the king of deflecting, the last thing he wants to do is make anyone upset so he makes his stories seem less awful so tada no ones upset - everyone falls for this

      Granted, Kalim is the only one who may have been kidnapped more times than MC. But he also knows Fellow intends to sell innocent people, and Kalim is not really seeming all that concerned with his 'friends' safety.

    **This turned into a rant sorry**
    I don't think people understand Kalim. To the people around him he comes across like an airhead that doesn't have any consideration towards others, but he's demonstrated to be emotionally intelligent and quite mature when it comes to things regarding relationships. He pointed out to Deuce in Book 5 that he shouldn't be upset with himself if he can't handle intellectual problems like everyone else because that just means he can solve issues in a way that he was built for. He wasn't upset with Jamil for a long period of time because he's practically a brother to him and he loves his family too much to hate them even if they wanted him dead. Also consider: Kalim didn't have a "normal" childhood and he wasn't allowed to attend public school. He was taught by a tutor and he was under constant supervision to the point where he's not allowed to do things by himself. He wants the same kind of freedom as everyone else so he can grow more independent but that's hard to do when everyone else is doing things for you to the point where they don't believe you can do anything without any kind of help. He's been kidnapped, poisoned to the point where he can't eat food prepared if it wasn't made by Jamil or by a governmental cook staff like the Cafeteria at the College, and he's seen his fair share of death for someone his age. His VA was told that his character is a ball of sunshine but behind his eyes there's a pain and darkness behind them. He's traumatized and scared of being alone again like he's been for the majority of his life. Jamil at least had the luxury of being in public life, Kalim was locked away in his family's home just like Jasmine.

    • @grandpa6065

      to be fair, ace has a point, because kalim grew up in that environment, his brain is in a locked box, he desperately needs friends who also say stuff like "yeah go do it on your own" because like a little independence would grow him out of his hyper dependency on people

    • @TheRoseFrontier
      @TheRoseFrontier ปีที่แล้ว +25

      YES. THIS. I mean, honestly, I'm very fascinated even in the little bit of character development we see from Kalim himself in book 5, when he was having that midnight practice session on his own... he's self-aware of his limitations, and increasingly so. He knows that he wasn't allowed to do things by himself, and that he was robbed from actually being able to use his skills, instead getting "victories" just handed to him. He was denied that kind of freedom. But yeah, like you said, he is still very understanding, and there is something to be said of his unrelenting willingness to at least TRY to understand people. And I get a feeling that's exactly what they're going to need here. They literally can't fight Fellow head-on. Force just isn't going to work here. So the alternative literally is to find out what he REALLY wants, and then give it to him in exchange for their friends' freedom. Or, trick him in some way, but that still requires more information than what they have. I think the problem is that Kalim presents the idea in such a way that sounds outlandish, making him an easy target for someone like Ace, who is quick to poke holes in the plan, but that doesn't mean he doesn't have a good point actually. But this is a problem that Kalim keeps facing... he keeps getting dismissed as not knowing what he's talking about, whether it be to his face or behind his back. He's not allowed the chance to actually sort something through, to talk things over like an equal with his peers.
      So yeah, saying that to say, I'm interested in where this is going, and I hope we do get to see these three work together and maybe actually implement Kalim's plan in some way that they can actually pull off. I think the three of them as characters could balance each other out pretty well.

      @@grandpa6065 Ace definitely has a point, but I think OP was trying to say that people dunking on Kalim for wanting to talk things out with Fellow aren't seeing the big picture. I mean, Fellow has committed and is committing atrocities, but Kalim has also had atrocities committed against him multiple times throughout his life, and it's possible that he did end up growing on some of his attackers. He also probably adopted this mindset as a defense mechanism; he's had ample proof that the world isn't as bright and filled with sunshine as he acts like it is, and he's trying to protect himself against the negative emotions that would bring after all he's experienced.

  • @clemi2601
    @clemi2601 ปีที่แล้ว +98

    Everyone is being annoyed at Kalim for wanting to solve this by talking, but at the same time did none of you considered how limited the alternative is? Attacking Fellow or Gidel is an instant Game Over after all. It’s like speed running getting turned into a puppet and defeating them doesn’t guaranteed that everyone get turned back to normal! We don’t even know if we’re dealing with an unique magic or a curse here! IMO with how things are going, the three will end up talking to Fellow and Gidel, Fellow of course won’t care about what they say but Gidel will! A fight breaks out, the last three will turned or nearly turn into puppet, Gidel will do something to prevent it that will broke the rules and turn into one as well. Cue Fellow having instant regret and with a little nudge from Kalim the sentimental and Ace the king of calling you out and bam! They win! Fellow tells his boss to suck it and everyone is saved!

      its literally Talk No Jutsu, come on, did no one grow up with Naruto around here, or even Aang from Avatar, sure they both started out with flashy moves to get the bad guy but they end it usually outside of violence

    • @morningstarrook
      @morningstarrook ปีที่แล้ว +16

      I completely agree with this. We have seen so many times that violence would just result in someone turning into a puppet. Really, the only other option left is a nonviolent approach, talking to Fellow and Gidel.
      I won’t jump to any sort of theories on how this will end, but with the scene before this of part of the group already turned to puppets, when they were talking about school and how important it can be, we see Gidel being rather pensive before Fellow discouraged it. I wouldn’t be too surprised if what you theorized could happen actually ended up being the case. I’d almost actually prefer such an ending to this event. Anyways, just wanted to throw my hat into the ring and state my own opinions so far ^ ^

    Don’t know why everyone is so against kalim like fighting against fellow isn’t considered a huge rule break it and is only gonna lead the boys to be turned into puppets.
    They don’t understand anything about the curse or how to break so isn’t getting that information the most important thing? Even if kalim is more optimistic about it he has the most reasonable plan by far (not to mentioned how all the captured boys did the EXACT SAME thing only shitter)
    And I’m gonna be honest I like how kalim is always willing to understand the people around him and why they do the things they do before taking any action against them (same with silver)

  • @somnolent4339
    @somnolent4339 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    Everyone's too harsh with Kalim... of course he thinks everything can be talked out and end happily ever after, because he's never been given the chance to protect himself. He's always being surveilled and protected by others, he's never had to directly speak to an enemy who just wants to hurt him. He doesn't have that real world, direct experience. Plus, he's a sheltered boy who doesn't understand how grim the world can be, he deflects all his trauma (the poisonings, the kidnappings, jamil's betrayal) with unwavering positivity. If he wasn't so bright, I think he would become too paranoid and cynical.

    I was expecting this event to be the perfect oportunity to see a more out of character side of Kalim, kinda like Malleus in glorious masquerade. Specially after his SSR looking all serious and cool. Please, Kalim can be such an interesting character in the devs didn’t want him to be the most psychologically shallow character in the game (and I'm saying this as Kalim's greatest fan!)

      He is actually pretty interesting because of his personality in this event! I can see why it doesn’t seem like he developed, but his gullible naiveness is always used as Both a strength and a weakness. In chapter 4, it made him get betrayed and put his dorm in danger. Maybe this event will show the strength of keeping an innocent kindness through Kalim ?

    I get where Kalim is coming from, and it's most likely gonna be the thing that somehow works (although the captured crew did already kinda try talking their way out of it in a sarcastic manner) but right now, I have to be on Ace's side. If anything, Ace and Ortho could lie in wait and then jump in once Kalim lands himself in trouble trying to talk to Fellow?

    • @grandpa6065
      @grandpa6065 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      I mean thats also the thing... Ace is really good at pointing out flaws but he's not... an idea guy either... He can shoot down someone like a champ but he rarely takes shots on his own
      Kalim is getting the brunt of the criticism bc neither Ortho or Ace can counter with an idea of their own, like if they dont like Kalims plan, theres no need to keep circling back to it if they had literally anything else on the table
      im more surprised that ortho feels mildly nerfed this story, he didnt see the glass falling on him, hes not coming up with plans - really? mr. "imma firing my lazer" guy?

      I disagree with you , yes kalim gives off an a naive and ignorant impression especially the way he says what’s on his mind without an explanation and wanting them to cooperate, but when you you know him you will realize he’s none of that ,especially when it comes to dealing with bad guys who wants to harm you considering his countless experience with them, when someone harm you ,there’s a reason behind it, if you knew it you will know how to handle it and where it’s coming from, of course you can return the harm back cos it’s justice, but then you will give the other another reason to even harm you more, yes violence can solve problems but there will always be a loose on both sides , like wars . I could go on and on about this and the actual reason why jamil went coco but I don’t want to waste your time if you were un interested 😅
