  • Today, I would like to share my documentary audio kit with you because it's an important part of what I bring for most of my jobs. It has a low footprint but high performance. I hope this sheds some light on what every documentary filmmaker should carry in their kit.

    Haha, I See myself asking our mayor before the interview: "Can I shave your body, so that my lav mics will hold?"

      Haha, I would only do this if the project you are shooting takes multiple days with the character and you get to know them on a deeper level. If it's just a one of shoot, just attach the mic on the inside of the shirt/suit :)

    Great video, I've used a very similar kit for years. Some pieces I've upgraded but you're absolutely right that technique is so much more important than gear.
    I chose to use the Countryman B3 lav and it works great with the Rode Wireless Pro.

      Glad you can relate man! I will def check those Countryman B3 lavs out:)

    Great video! Minus the shaving haha I actually never put the sticky part on the skin. It works really well if you attach the sticky part to the shirt with the undercoat furry bit touching the skin

    Very informative video. But shaving someone on set just to get clean audio, now that's commitment 😅

      Hahaha, right? I would only that if I’m working on a long term project and I managed to build a trust. Def not gonna ask a CEO to do it while filming a quick interview 😁🙏

    Thanks for the video. Got some issue when I tried rycote sticker with the Rode lavalier (shirt causing noice). I did see you put the mic face to face the skin on the video. Is it the best way ?

    • @JakubChlouba
      @JakubChlouba  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      With the rycote I only had issues when the shirt is too tight and touches the mic, but have good experience with it overall.
      And the mic on the skin is not the best way, I just didn’t notice it on the 5inch screen as it I was recording the B-roll😂 normally I put it facing out.
      But ideally you would have an omni directional microphone, still need to invest into those.

    The rode lavs are really not that great attaching to the chest like that. They are more for attaching visibly to a shirt outside clothing. They are not omnidirectional like other lav mics, they need to be set so the membrane points out from the chest

      Thanks for the comment man, you are right. I’m looking into getting some omni directional lavs next. In Congo we mostly used them in a custom made necklace setup so they were actually out on a t-shirt and they worked well in that scenario.

      Yeah was going to say those lavs SUCK if you try to hide them, Currently on the hunt for a better replacement Lav. Great video though!

      @@QualityAntics DPA 4071 is the only one i found that works with the 3,3v from the rode. But it costs more than the whole rode system
