    I was just thinking I needed to purchase brushes for more detailed work and your video popped up. At first I though it was one of your old videos that I missed but then I saw the date. Perfect timing Melissa.

    I have hooded eyes, & small mobile lid space like you too. My eyes are sensitive so I don't do l eyeshadows on my lower lash line & inner corner. I did not know that natural bristles could help. Thanks for doing such an informative video. Would love to see a thorough eyeshadow tutorial some day.

    I've been making my way through your uploads. Your videos are fantastic. I have been looking eyeshadow brush recommendations and this video was perfect. I knew that different bristles create different applications but I didn't know that certain hairs could irritate our eyes. For the longest time I thought it had to do with the products I was using to clean my brushes. Thank you!

    This was such a helpful video!! I've been pouring over videos of japanese brushes, Wayne Goss and Sonia G brush videos, but not so many as helpful as this. I have hooded eyes with not much lid space and i'm definitely going to be picking out brushes based on the ones you've featured here. THANK YOU!

    I like to use that Wayne Goss eyebrow brush for placing shadow on my lower lash line as well. It's nice and stiff. He includes a lot of blending brushes that are great for use on hooded eyes. Thanks for this video.

    Time to rewatch your video while browzing the Beautylish website. Ones again for a informativ video. It would be really fun to see a video with your 6-10 favorit brushes or like a video with all the brushes you use daily. Atm I am eyeing the Koyudo B036 but can only find the B037 on the site. I wonder if its the change of hair that is the difference because they look kind of the same. Ohh this choises. :D

    Hi Melissa! What would you say is your favorite YELLOW eyeshadow, im finding it hard finding a yellow that is pigmented enough for an olive skin tone.

    • @melissagold2559
      @melissagold2559  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Chata Medel I like the yellow from the Melt Cosmetics radioactive stack (it's the shade 'Neon' which is available as a single). It has a little bit of sparkle in it but it does end up looking like a matte eyeshadow. In my palette collection video, that's the yellow I'm wearing and I didn't need to use a white base 😊

    Yet another fantastically detailed/informative video, Melissa!
    Love how you do your elongated/winged out eyeshadow placement, so I’m super curious to know which ‘outer v work brush’ is your holy grail as of this year? There are so many options from different brands out there, so any help would be much appreciated!

    • @melissagold2559
      @melissagold2559  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Aww thank so much! Lately I've been gravitating a lot towards my Hakuhodo J5529 brush for an elongated smokey wing. It's a nice size for my eye and also super tapered so I can get the precision If you want to see it in action I used it in my ND sunrise versus sunset palette video that I did not too long ago 😊 I think that brush paired with a good angled liner brush will help you achieve a good wing!

    • @mello2365
      @mello2365 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ooh thanks for the tip re the ND sunrise v sunset video! You definitely rocked the hell out of those beautifully warm eyeshadows! 😀
      I think you’ve mentioned the Chikuhodo t-8, the Chikuhodo PS-4, and now the J5529 as your fave re outer v... is the J5529 your fave out of all 3 for outer v? Lol sorry for asking but as a luxe fude newbie I’ve got the J5523 in my cart atm, and I’d love to get a versatile outer v brush that isn’t essentially identical in function to the J5523. Thanks again for your help! ❤️

    • @melissagold2559
      @melissagold2559  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mello2365 since you're already getting the J5523, you can probably skip on the J5529 as it's like a smaller more tapered version. Chikuhodo t8 is similar in that it's smaller and will allow you to work in smaller areas so then I'd say the PS4 since it's the most unique of the three. Good multi tasking brush too as can be use as a shader brush also. Hope that helps because I can't pick a favourite 🙈

    Oh my goodness, this is such a timely video. I always feel I have no clue what specific brush to use for my eye makeup. I use eyeshadow everyday to work. It makes me feel polished and put together. I almost always do a "soft" smoky eye. I am "old" so I smudge always - no defined, sculptured eye looks for me:) Unfortunately, I can't afford all these brushes all at once, so if you had to recommend my first high end eye brush, just one brush, which type or kind of eye brush would you recommend? For example detail brush, smudge brush etc. Which type of brush would give me "more bang for my buck?" I so, so love your videos particularly with your sister. There is a bond there that is so visible and just lovely. As always, lovely video with very helpful information, thank you.

    • @melissagold2559
      @melissagold2559  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much!! Since you often do soft smokey eyes, I would recommend to get a brush like a small blending brush that also is dense enough to pack on eyeshadow like the Wayne Goss 19 brush or the Chikuhodo T-8 brush (I also like that this particular handle is short because then I don't knock it against my mirror!!). You don't necessarily need to buy those exact brushes but look out for brushes with a similar shape. I use those brushes all the time for smokey eyes because it allows for more precision and I don't accidentally diffuse eyeshadow all the way up to my brow bone! Plus because they're dense enough I don't need a separate shader brush.

    Hi Melissa! I saw your comment below about how you enjoy using the J5529 now and read on Temptalia’s blog that the J5529 is similar to the Wayne goss 19/20. Just wondering if they’re dupable in your opinion? I’m not based in the US and am interested in ordering some Sonia G brushes so would rather keep it to one order on beautylish if I don’t have to 😅😅😅 (unless in your opinion the J5529 is truly too amazing to pass up haha)

    wayne goss 08 brush has been discontinued but it's identical to hakuhodo J521, i have 5 of them snd i use it to push eyeliner into the lash line as well as to create a wing shape. i have small asian eyes.

      @@melissagold2559 His brushes are made by hakuhodo, and J521 is an existing brush in Hakuhodo catalogue before he launch his collection of brushes. He definitely designed his own brushes but probably decided to include the J521 to his collection. Hakuhodo has been manufacturing brushes for many big brands at various price points for a long long time. 😁

    I loved this video so much! I'm still hunting for the perfect and softest eye blender. Wayne Goss is on the list but Sephora pro has a couple I wanna check out too. I've been collecting the UD brushes which are amazing but a fluffy animal hair is still my go to for blown out looks. I have a Sephora one but it sheds which is why it was in the sale section. Hooded eye probs😊😉

    • @melissagold2559
      @melissagold2559  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! 😊 If you're looking for a soft eye blender, try looking for a brush with squirrel hair as they're extremely soft (they're just more expensive arg!). The majority of Wayne Goss eye brushes seem to be made with goat hair so they're not the softest but the shapes are good for smaller/hooded eyes.

  • @isabelab6851

    I have some of the Sonia G that are not in the set. and I love them. The are much stiffer but soft. They complement my Wayne Goss brushes. I have to try some of these. I am 54 and my hooded eyes have become more so. I also do not have as many lashes as I used to

    It looks like you two have such an amazing collection of high quality brushes. All my brushes are synthetic and my most expensive and softest happens to be a Nyx cosmetics blending brush XD All my stuff comes from Real Techniques (which is so scratchy and hurts my eyes that I don't use them unless I'm desperate) or Models Prefer (which has softer bristles than RT). I have a Zoeva luxe defined crease brush but it's kinda scratchy too. I have been so curious about Chikuhodo, Hakuhodo and Wayne Goss but it's so hard to justify the price since I have to order overseas too :S I also hear that natural hair brushes can't be washed everyday, which I'm compelled to do (rather compulsively). I enjoy detail work so I'm going to take your recommendations into account and consider my purchase carefully once I'm ready to splurge :D

    • @melissagold2559
      @melissagold2559  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I like my Zoeva eye brushes - they're a mix of synthetic and natural hair so not the softest but they're a great work horse and sturdy brushes that aren't too dear. Haha you wash your brushes every day?!! I am lazy so I accumulate dirty brushes and then wash them all at once so I do have brushes with similar shapes to use as back ups when my favourites get dirty. But you're right, you're not supposed to wash them too often, just use a cloth/tissue paper to wipe off the powder. Brushes is one of those things I don't mind splurging on because I expect them to last a long time.. arguably till the day I die haha. Some I've had for almost a decade and they're still going strong. But to be honest, if you don't have super sensitive/problematic eyes then there's nothing wrong with a good synthetic brush. And I've seen the really intricate looks you create - it looks like you already have a good set of tools so don't feel like you need to add to your artillery if you have brushes that already work well for you!

    To smoke out the lower lash line: is Wayne goss 05 better or 19 better?

    • @melissagold2559
      @melissagold2559  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I personally wouldn't use 19 for the lower lash line as it would smoke it out too much since it is a bit fluffier than what i would prefer for such a sensitive area. I like it more for outer v and precision blending on the mobile lid. I would prefer 5 for the lower lash line instead - although i dont own it i have similar shapes by hakuhodo. The shape allows enough shadow to be picked up and the blended out without taking it too far outside the lower area.

    My lids are similar to yours and I love detailing brushes. I highly recommend: Koyudo BP039 for extremely precise application of colour and blending, Hakuhodo G5527 for placement in the v, Houkodou G-S2 for blending. Takeda is another brand worth exploring if you really want to get deeeep into the rabbit hole of Japanese brushes - their red sable line (kolinsky) in no.8, 9s, 10 are especially great for both powder/cream and 'in between texture' products, and custom made Canadian squirrel and EXS goat... the softest hairs I've ever encountered. They have the worst website in the world unfortunately, and only do orders through email >_
