Thank you so much Steve! I have been looking at the Avenge X since I heard about it coming out and I’m glad it’s performing at such a high level. Such an impressive gun. I wonder if they planned on making the barrels shoot pellets and slugs this well. I was hoping to see you use the .177 cal with slugs too! Awesome review. Look at your regulator like an unregulated gun that is always filled to max pressure at all times.. To easily set up a tune is to have a goal in mind for example shoot 18.13 grain pellet at 880 fps.. Keep adjusting your hammer spring until you are at max velocity (your target speed is 978 fps), increase the regulator and hammer until at max speed you are at 978 fps then back the hammer spring off until you reach 880 fps (10% slower than max velocity).. This will stop any blow by from the main air supply because the output valve spring does not need any air pressure to close, it can close on its own spring strength and dump 90% of the air out of your plenum and in turn will help the regulator be more accurate on refills..

Steve thank you very much for this treasure. It has been extremely helpful for a novice like me. I have a question which has made me mad... I want to order an LDC, but couldn't figure out the threads. When I unscrew the barrel end cap, it takes out whole assembly (I mean the baffles). How to access the threads where Avenge-X Tactical can be mounted with any muzzle device..?
Yes that's right... been on it for about 3 weeks now and I've populated AEAC Instagram and Facebook with all my learning as I go. "hookedonair" for both. Thanks!! Steve
Hey Steve, love your videos, i own a avenge x in 22 cal. Waiting for my 25 cal barrel kit. I don't remember you showing any JTS pellets. My 22 cal looooves the 22 grain pellets at 910-920
This would certainly be nice to see. I had the opportunity to try both and both are great value. I eventually settled on the Avenge-x. I think it'll come down to what your preferences are. If you're a tinkerer that values lots of adjustability (on the fly), like myself, the Avenge-X will be your speed 🙂 If not, the Airacuda Max will not disappoint. It seemed to be more accurate out of the box from what I could gather. This is also quite subjective, but I think the Airacuda Max wins in the 'looks' department as well. That is not to say that the Avenge-X models do not look good... It just doesn't look and feel quite as premium as the Max. Either way, both are great choices
Excellent review, as expected. I was wondering if changing the calibers would also require changing to a heavier hammer spring for the bigger caliber like .25? I asked my dealer and he told me .25 isnt available in the avenge x, only .22 which can be converted using a barrel kit. Which is funny cuz the liberty and avenger both came in a separate .25 version. I personally would love to get a .25 but they aren't available here so should i just go for the .22, i also saw some reviews where they said the .22 version cant be tuned to a very high preset to shoot something like the .25 33grains even if you do get a barrel conversion kit
Yea so i went and reset my reg, was at 1500 after filling. Brought it up to 1750-1800 to start. HS at + 1 essentially your 18 gr 870 tune. Mine came in at 772 FPS. I understand tunes typically dont match up from the internet but thats 100 fps difference from yours. I settled at +3 which brought it to about 840. I then brought the reg up a smidge more and first shot 835, 2nd 837, i then went to +4 on the HS which brought it to 855 ish with the 18’s. Before messing with it i was running the 22 grain at 800, 18 grain 900 fps and thatswith 5 1/2 turns on the HS, 150 bar ish on the reg. This gun has gun seems to run about 100 fps shy of everyone else and why i can not reach 50/60 FPS with the 22/25 cal.
Stripped the gun down to see if anything was off. Only thing i found was the 2 transfer port H/L o-rings were dry. Nothing else looked bad. After putting it all back together and cleaning the barrel. Best i could do was (870 tune w 18 grain JSB’s) 2000 reg, 4 3/4 HS. 70 shots on reg with a 16 ES. Only thing i could come up with is AV’s replacement hammer springs are lighter .. only thing that makes any sense.. to me at least. But still besides the HS adjustment difference, theres a 30 shot difference. About to send it off to Alien Airguns and have him turn it into a beast haha.
For anyone reading this, it was the gun. After breaking a 3rd hammer spring i bought a new gun. Set to 1750 reg on new gun, with JSB 18’s it shot over 900 fps at +1 on the HS. +1/2 brought it down to 875 ish. 1900 reg .. i am now running the new JSB 21’s at 860 fps with +2 on HS. This gun is significantly more powerful than the 1st. Still not sure why it’s underpowered. After lubing up all o-rings and replacing the broken cocking cylinder o-ring, molly grease on the hammer and installing new HS. It did gain a little power. Still needed a little more reg and HS to get the 18’s to 870 (2k/+2)
Final update, the gun had a bad peek poppet - shaft seal (oring) bad. It was losing air into the hammer chamber (only when fired) Replaced it and it went from 750 FPS TO 850 fps. Reg set at 1750 HS + 1/2 slings a 21 grain pellet at 860. Just like my new gun im probably going to be at 0 running 18’s …. Its actually got a tad more power than my new one now haha
I noticed some of your testing you are using BAR for regulator setting and other tests you use PSI. New to PCP and it's already a little confusing. PSI is more relatable.
I love it. Just be sure to use blue threadlocker on the 3 screws and be careful tightening the main stock screw... not a lot of threads to bite in the receiver there.
First of all thank you for the guide!!! QUESTION: Why do you think you need more reg pressure compared to the 25 cal to push same 25grain pellets at same speed? In other words, .25 cal push the same 25 grain pellet at lower reg pressure, what is your opinion on that?
Hello Steve, I have an Avenge x .22 and I want to use it in bench rest competitions at 25 meters, between jsb 18.13 and 25.39, which one do you recommend?
How and the heck did he get over 100 shots on the 210 cyl .. below the reg set and maintain a 16 FPS spread (870 18.1 tune) ? Set the same i got 18 ES, 866 average FPS, about 75 shots .. as soon as i was at my 1800 reg set, it started shooting around 850 FPS. Or am i missing something? Haha
Ted, through your video you were showing the black avenge x tactical and you dried fire. I noticed that rifle has a completely different frame. Can you please tell me if this was an upgrade and what type and where to get it from?
A few variables there - tune, temperature, o-ring condition, etc. One of my 2 Ultimate Tuning Guide videos will help you get the most out of your rifle. Best, Steve
Question, with both the 22 and 25 cal i come short of the max FPE by 10. 22 = 40 FPE and 25 = 50 FPE. Thats using the 25 grain JSB’s with the 22 and 34 grain JSB’s with the 25. I have the reg at 210 and HS about maxed with the 25. 25 shots with the 210 cylinder, ES 12. A lot more to go to get 60 fpe or about 70 fps.
Often, it's not always about maxing everything out to get the most out of the gun. Please see one of my 2 Ultimate Tuning Guide videos for how to achieve the best results. If you already have and are confident you've got the gun dialed in, I would say replace your barrel and bolt probe o-rings. Also, ambient temperature makes a big difference. The warmer it is, the faster it goes, lol. Steve
@@AEAC i started with the HS around +3, Not by much but the FPS was still increasing up around +8. Seemed happy at around +6 but obviously no where close to 60 fpe. Honestly i dont want to run it at that even if i did get there. Im more than happy slinging 18’s in 22, 25’s in 25. Just want to see if i can get there. I have changed the o-rings, whole prob on the 22 because it jammed up and i bent it to shit haha. With that said, i just found the o-ring delete sleeve that replaces the o-rings with a solid plastic (or whatever it is) material. I also have a Fx panthera compact in 22.. i have it slinging JTS 21 grain pellets at around 870. If not the 21’s i tone it down and run the 18’s. Thanks for all the great videos.
@@AEACit was the gun after all, i knew something was not right. I was 100 fps short compared to everyone else with similar tunes. After breaking a 3rd hammer spring i said f it and bought a new AVX With the pyramid bucks i had. Gun came as a 177 so i swapped in the 22 barrel and probe. If you remember i was at 2k and like +4 to get the 18’s at 870. The new gun came set at 1750 reg and 0 HS. Loaded the 18’s and .. 880 fps. +1 brought it up to 915. It feels like a totally different gun .
@@AEAC Yeah I see that the tube mount is offset, and that is why the larger bottle goes on without touching the barrel. Just ordered the .25 cal. tactical, my first PCP. After lugging around a Model 48 for the last thirty years, and an old Crossman 1400 multi pump for more than that, I cant wait to try this new one out.
Ow boy the video start with??You need to be einstein to shoot this gun out of the box?.Ow man ...Not the gun i like .And tbh after all this? You see this rifle in big competition? That was what i was told when i show this clip.so not my 2 cent's ..but people go mental ..when i told them.I dont know enymore .for hunting?for competition ? ore maybe i h8 to say it clickbait?why i h8 it ?because i follow you for many year's and i am a fanbig time ..So very nice clip 👍 as alway's ..just asking.

Good video 👍🇧🇷🇺🇸
Steve
@@AEAC i started with the HS around +3,
Not by much but the FPS was still increasing up around +8.
Fx impact m4 ??
Does that larger bottle mount into the same hole as the tube?
Please have a watch of the video - I share/show this information you ask in great detail. Best, Steve
@@AEAC Okay thanks.
@@AEAC Yeah I see that the tube mount is offset, and that is why the larger bottle goes on without touching the barrel. Just ordered the .25 cal. tactical, my first PCP. After lugging around a Model 48 for the last thirty years, and an old Crossman 1400 multi pump for more than that, I cant wait to try this new one out.
how many shots perfill?
See the 4 shot charts I provided in the video 😉
1 turn is 360° i guess ?

9:41 completely unnecessary 😂
It's obviously an advertisement for that product. So yeah it was necessary.
Last I checked the stocks and caliber conversion kits don't seem to be available yet. I'm guessing you got these straight from the distributor?
Mine came from Pyramyd Air in January. I've been told they've sold out temporary but I've also been told that more are on the way. Hope that helps.
@@AEAC It does, thanks. Hopefully that just means it's more popular than they expected not that they're having supply chain problems.
I don't believe they are. Today they told me that they've got a large shipment on the water heading our way.
By the barrel itself and probe separately.
Do you have any vids on the JTSAiracuda? Thanks got you Sub’d
Hi and thanks!! Sorry my friend I do not. But Ted's Holdover has a good one 👍
