Romance does absolutely nothing for me but “If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more” had me floored I was taken out by the power of that quote
girl, the way The Last Devil to Die is going to finally bring Booktube into the world of Richard Osman. We're going to finally succeed in pulling everyone into our literary world of joy and heart ache.
The Jamie Lee curtis clips crack me up 😂 My theory for why the Writing Retreat is so divisive is because of how absurd of a direction it takes. If you’re a reader that likes over the top situations then you’ll love it. If you like a more realistic grounded perspective it doesn’t work.
This year was my Sanderson era and I had such a good time catching up on it all. I hope you have a wonderful time with it next year! And yes, Mistborn is part of the Cosmere.
Not me skipping the 3 minutes about The Writing Retreat because I refuse to see my favorite booktuber talking about that thing LOL But it's ok, everybody makes mistakes hahahahah I added Nothing to see here to my TBR, as I'm trying for a general fiction era in 2024. amazing video as usual!!!
This was a fun list! Emma is hilarious, but I think that for me Sense & Sensibility edges it out just slightly. I’d suggest reading Persuasion again when you’re older. I didn’t like it the first time I read it either, and I was a bit younger than you are. I read it again a few years ago and loved it. The same thing happened with Mansfield Park. 😂 I could not understand why people loved it so much. I read it for the THIRD TIME during Covid (when I was 37) and it clicked and I absolutely loved it.
My favourite book of the year has to be either cemetery boys or the sun bearer trials… they’re both Aiden Thomas books and they’re absolutely amazing 😭⭐️
Excited for you to check out more Brandon Sanderson. I've only read the Mistborn series so far but I think you'll enjoy it. The first book is a bit like Six of Crows in my opinion, but there are a lot more fight scenes and the magic system is so cool!!
I did start with Sandersons earliest Cosmere book Elantris which I loved, and as it’s a standalone it’s also a good place to start. Then go into Mistborn era 1. You can also start with Warbreaker but I genuinely liked Elantris more.
I would recommend to start with The Final Empire (so Mistborn Era 1) or Elantris in your Brandy Sandy journey. The Final Empire is like a better and more mature Six of Crows, so if you like that, start with that. Good luck on your journey 😅 It was truly the year of Sanderson for me. With the kickstarter and me rereading Era 1 I had so much Sanderson in my life, it was amazing. If you want another story that’s more cozy from him, read Yumi and the Nightmare Painter. It‘s also a Cosmere standalone and you‘ll meet someone you already know from Tress.
You have amazing book taste! I'll have to add, The Last Devil to Die on my TBR. My top ten books of 2023 are... Hunger of the Gods Braiding sweet grass Paper Girls Project Hail Mary The Giver of stars Letters to a young poet Inanna Heaven and Earth Anne of Green Gables Esperanza rising Babel Out of all these I definity think you should check out Paper Girls, it fits your reading style.
the writng retreat very nearly made it to my top books of the year!!! i loved it and completely get you with that book. after you and jessi both loving promising young woman, I'm deffo gonna keep an eye out for it in waterstones 👀
Pressing play knowing the Writing Retreat will be on here hahaha . Let’s see….Edit: yup! It’s my second worst read of the year next to My Roomate is a Vampire 😂
For the order to read cosmere either go with his first book Elantris or Mistborn/The Final Empire for a stronger start. There are a lot of videos on the cosmere reading order you can check out if you decide to commit to reading them all
If you want to get into all of Sanderson, publication order is the easiest way to go. But you could start with all of his standalone books and then go into Mistborn era 1 (which is the first trilogy).
It’s amazing how much our reading tastes differ (Legends & Lattes and The Writing Retreat were both low three-stars for me), yet I still watch everything you post and love listening to your thoughts about everything you read. I get the outrage of favorites being low-rated, though! My #3 of the year, Cutting Teeth, is the second lowest-rated book I read this year, with a 3.34, and just NO! They’re all WRONG! 😂
I read 102 books & only had 9 that I rated 5⭐️…so standards are high! Tress was a surprise & 1st Sanderson read for me also. Looking for Yumi in 2024. And Writing Retreat was high on my list, too
for your 2024 Brandon Sanderson era I can recommend you to start with: - Skyward (5 stars for me) or - The Final Empire (5 stars too) or - Elantris (4 stars) or - Steelheart (4 stars) =)
My top ten books of 2023 are 1. Tress of the emerald sea by Brandon Sanderson 2. All Mistborn. Mostly era one (Fav was the well of ascension) but I also loved the bands of mourning from era two by Brandon Sanderson 3. Defiant by Brandon Sanderson 4. Anxious people by Fredrick Backman 5. Rose under fire my Elizabeth Wein 6. The Illuminae files (fav was the first one) by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristof 7. Spy Family by Tatsuya Endo (fav was volume 4) 8. Remarkably bright creatures by Shelby Van Pelt 9. Born a crime by Trevor Noah 10. Love and gelato by Jenna Evans Welch Honorable mentions to go Percy Jackson and the chalice of the gods by Rick riordan and Stateless by Elizabeth Wein I cheated a lot there… with the series it’s definitely more than ten books, but I just can’t choose! It was the year of Sanderson in more ways than one for me!
Ugh I think youtube deleted my comment because I posted a link? 😭 But I'm so excited for you to start your Brandon Sanderson era! From what I understand, Cosmere refers to a universe that multiple books take place in. Mistborn, Stormlight, and Tress are all in the Cosmere. Brandon Sanderson has some books he's published that are NOT part of the Cosmere though, such as Skyward. I think you can start with either Mistborn (era 1) or Warbreaker. There are a couple sites with a reading order you can use
⭐I am planning to read The Thursday Murder Club next year. I am trying to branch out from just reading Fantasy and reading Mystery is so much fun. I plan to start reading the Mistborn series soon because of reading Tress of the Emerald Sea. I gave that five stars as well. Hope you have a great holiday, new year, and have a great reading month in the first month of 2024.
I am scared of The Thursday Murder club because my housemate said it is so bad. He said it's really poorly written with far too many conveniences. Idk whether to try it or not 0.0
Poorly written? In terms of the English language, it's outstanding. Charming and masterful. Characters jump off the page. The storylines and concepts establish a definite mood of irony and facetiousness, and that's not going to be everyone's favorite. I am very fussy about conveniences/plot contrivance, but I find Osman's choices to be so clever I have no complaints.
@@megwithbooks To my knowledge there aren't any places that have those as laws or as school district policies but in a smaller, religious communities there is definitely a lot of social pressure to not let the few children of color into prom because it would supposedly contaminate the space. Honestly that social pressure and feeling like an outsider for people of color happens in middle class and wealthy communities too it's just kind of part of our social fabric unfortunately and it's slowly changing but because change happens from big cities outward, it takes a long time for anything to happen in smaller country towns. To be perfectly honest though, I would not be surprised if a school district in Kentucky or Tennessee or Georgia or something has a policy that didn't explicitly enforce segregation but did in reality.
there are several schools and proms in the US that have only integrated within my lifetime- and I’m in my 20’s. Famously, the town Morgan Freeman is from only had their first integrated prom in 2008- there’s a movie about it. Overt segregation is not something you see everyday, but it still happens in small towns, especially in the Deep South.

girl, the way The Last Devil to Die is going to finally bring Booktube into the world of Richard Osman. We're going to finally succeed in pulling everyone into our literary world of joy and heart ache.
I love that i know your shelves so well that i knew four books would be mentioned just because i could see they were missing haha
Welp, you've convinced me to pick up The Writing Retreat!
The Jamie Lee curtis clips crack me up 😂 My theory for why the Writing Retreat is so divisive is because of how absurd of a direction it takes. If you’re a reader that likes over the top situations then you’ll love it. If you like a more realistic grounded perspective it doesn’t work.

i picked up the Thursday Murder Club series this year because of you, and I fell in love with it!! I can't wait to read The Last Devil to Die.

I think you’ll love bookshops and bonedust just as much!! Especially being a book about books! I just finished it and it was so cozy and wonderful
My favourite book of the year has to be either cemetery boys or the sun bearer trials… they’re both Aiden Thomas books and they’re absolutely amazing 😭⭐️
I'm so happy Nothing to see here made it to your top 10. I love this book so much and it's so good to see other people finding it and loving it, too.
Your videos are mood lifters. Love your recs.
I read Noting To See Here after your vlog and I really liked it. It's a perfect book for anybody who has ever given their heart to a misfit
Excited for you to check out more Brandon Sanderson. I've only read the Mistborn series so far but I think you'll enjoy it. The first book is a bit like Six of Crows in my opinion, but there are a lot more fight scenes and the magic system is so cool!!

I also loved The Writing Retreat! I think the wildness of the novel is part of the intrigue for me.
I need to add some of those to my tbr! 🌟
I would recommend to start with The Final Empire (so Mistborn Era 1) or Elantris in your Brandy Sandy journey.
The Final Empire is like a better and more mature Six of Crows, so if you like that, start with that.

thank you for reminding me that i need to pick up the writing retreat eeek
Richard Osman needs to write like 5 books a year, The Thursday Murder Club series is absolute perfection!
I’m dying that Clueless is an Emma retelling and I’ve never realised until now!
You have amazing book taste! I'll have to add, The Last Devil to Die on my TBR. My top ten books of 2023 are... Hunger of the Gods
Braiding sweet grass
Paper Girls
Project Hail Mary
The Giver of stars
Letters to a young poet
Inanna Heaven and Earth
Anne of Green Gables
Esperanza rising
Babel
Out of all these I definity think you should check out Paper Girls, it fits your reading style.
I loved The Weight of Blood as well and totally agree about the audiobook!!
I still need to read Legends and Lattes omg!!
the writng retreat very nearly made it to my top books of the year!!! i loved it and completely get you with that book.
after you and jessi both loving promising young woman, I'm deffo gonna keep an eye out for it in waterstones 👀
Great list. Happy holidays
Pressing play knowing the Writing Retreat will be on here hahaha . Let’s see….Edit: yup! It’s my second worst read of the year next to My Roomate is a Vampire 😂
The Tea Dragon Society is such an adorable story. I love them so much. 🌟
Your enthusiasm affects me haha. A couple of my fave's these year were Mexican Gothic, Rebecca and Bookshops and Bonedust (yes I really liked it 😁)
For the order to read cosmere either go with his first book Elantris or Mistborn/The Final Empire for a stronger start. There are a lot of videos on the cosmere reading order you can check out if you decide to commit to reading them all
Legends and Lattes is my planned first read if the year! Fingers crossed its a five for me too!
If you want to get into all of Sanderson, publication order is the easiest way to go. But you could start with all of his standalone books and then go into Mistborn era 1 (which is the first trilogy).
⭐ Tress was so good!!! My fave of the year was another fantasy set on a ship, 'Seasparrow' the latest in the Graceling series. It was everything ❤❤❤
Finlay Donovan is one of my all-time favorite reads for the year too! ⭐
I loved the writing retreat! And the weight of blood is my Roman empire lol😊❤
I read 102 books & only had 9 that I rated 5⭐️…so standards are high! Tress was a surprise & 1st Sanderson read for me also. Looking for
Yumi in 2024. And Writing Retreat was high on my list, too
Housemaids secret snubbed
I read Bookshops and Bonedust recently and felt it was just as good. Like L&L was 5 stars, B&B was 4.98. I don’t think you’ll be too disappointed
I feel like out of all sanderson books you'd like Elantris the most 🌟
⭐️⭐️⭐️ this year I’ve read more fics than actual books, but I started the Thursday murder club bc of you ⭐️⭐️⭐️
for your 2024 Brandon Sanderson era I can recommend you to start with:
- Skyward (5 stars for me) or
- The Final Empire (5 stars too) or
- Elantris (4 stars) or

=)
The Kiera Knightly P&P is good but the BBC version is top notch and the best one in my opinion!
YES I love Emma!!! It's my favorite Jane Austen
I think Finlay Donovan is so fun and ridiculously outlandish! I liked the second one more.
I also really liked Nothing to See Here, definitely quirky and funny.
My top ten books of 2023 are

No, you tube does that automatically
No going to lie, I picked up Writing Retreat because you loved it so much and... I definitely disagree with you... 😬
My favorite book was A River Enchanted (and the sequel!) this year ((:
⭐️
finish finlay donovan!!! i loved the whole series (so far)
I strongly disagree with the writing retreat!!!! Lollllll
⭐️🌟💫
Mistborn is a part of the cosmere!
I feel like we're going to have quite a few in common

There aren’t still segregated proms or schools in America
I wasn’t talking about it being wide spread, but from what I’ve read about it after reading the book a few still exist in very rural areas in the US

I just bought a copy of Finlay 👀 I hope I love it as much as everyone else 🥲
My favorite book of 2023 was “sing me to sleep” by Gabi burton.
I just finished it like 14 hours ago and I just can’t stop thinking about it🩷
