+LGUSAMobile You really need to do something about your customer service. My brother's LG G3 keeps crashing and all you want to do is have him send you the phone instead of just making a software update to fix the problem. It's a somewhat common problem with the G3 so it should be an easy problem to fix.
I use an Galaxy S6, it isn't at the level from my Canon 650D DLSR. The lens is just an important part of a camera, but the S6 does take great pictures, and most of the time it's the one I have with me.
in direct sun light the s6 lens gets dark light of the picture but lg g4 gets a great light up coz of the f1.8 and the focus is fast with laser auto focus i prefer the lg g4 .it gets sharp raw images most of the time which i expect for a high end smart phone manual camera like DSLR camera gets
I prefer the G4 for stills and S6 for video. I don't like the over saturated colours in imaging but the stability and fast focusing in videos is great.
Sometimes the g4 took better pictures than the s6 but overall i think i go with the s6 specially in video, its amazing how the smartphones cameras are getting better and better.
The point where the phone cameras takes a nose dive is when you're taking photos during the night or dimly lit indoors. There's much more noise and artifacts from the software processing at 100% crop. Also the f/1.8 on the Nikon is not equivalent to the G4's f/1.8 aperture. You have to take the sensor size into consideration and compare them at 35mm equivalency. The smartphones captures much less light at the reported apertures.
I can tell from your evening photos that the rx100 is sharper and has better dynamic range than the G4 or S6, so I would say the point and shoot still has it's place in the market for people who are a little more serious with their photography.
How do the microphones perform in loud situations like a bar with a live band. I have had issues with LG phones in the past not being able to handle this, but not other phones. Have they improved?
I have a galaxy s6, the picture quality is really good, plus the big high-res screen, easy to UI and much powerful network access, I would say it's definitely better than point and shot cameras.
Jack Skellington I think video was more lifelike and better autofocus on the G4. S6 saturates anything to much and is more wobbly in my view. Would be nice if he had a website and posted full movie files of the scene so we could download them without TH-cam compressing them.
TekReview's The S6 is only a little more saturated and has much better dynamic range/exposure. And it has a much less processed look and finer detail. As well as panning better with much much better audio
Jack Skellington As far as audio, I will have to watch Max Lee's High on Android channel again. He did an awesome review at the ocean in California showing the video and audio capabilities of each. I think the S6 actually recorded more wind noise but I will look at it again before making my decision.
TekReview's That was a good one and you can see when he zooms in the G4 might have been a bit more steady but the S6 just had better looking video. Erricas comparison was good too. Hers was a bit better for audio. There are many others that show the audio difference better I think. I know it's not sensor related of course though, but there is a huge difference. Obviously there is no clear winner and G4 did a little better with the sunset on Max Lee's and in some areas. But overall the S6 has much more mature processing and better dynamic range. There is still a lot of room for software improvement in the G4.
if you buy the rx100 and dont use the raw mode, what is the point...? just try it and you will see the difference with S6 and G4...especially in low light situations
I think the G4 is pretty amazing. However, I will admit, that the DSLR camera used in this captures much more light than the other cameras, but that doesn't change the fact that I still like the G4 more. And it's probably much cheaper too lol
Just my imagination, or maybe I had a weird momentary lag spike, but when watching the video the G4 seemed to be very choppy, albiet very quick to focus. Also, the color sensor on the G4 on that green leaf seemed to really give it an unnatural yellow. I'm still more impressed overall by the G4.
Great video mate. But one suggestion - you should have shown all the same pictures of different gears on same screen so people can differentiate between them easily :)
At 03:46 the smartphones seem to have more native sharpness added to the untouched image. The DSLR may have much more bokeh but in at least the image you show of the Nikon D3200 it has the subject of the lavender flower also somewhat blurred in comparison to the smarphones. In that series of that flower, Samsung does it best even though I have a G4. The G4 is too sharpened making the bokeh contain artifacts.
Great video man but like they say the best camera you have is the one you have on you. That's why I went with the l LG G4 I love the pics that this thing produces. Nothing is going to out preform a dslr but how many people carry one around all the time.
The point and shoot camera market is almost dead cause of mobile phones? Please could you furnish us with statistics to back your claim? You need to stop saying most people shoot in auto mode as well, while that may be the case for non camera enthusiasts in the smartphone world there are so many people who buy their smart phones and compact cameras for manual mode capabilities. There's no way a smart phone camera like the g4 or s6 can ever match a dedicated top compact camera that has a far bigger sensor. I just don't know how that makes sense? I guess you want to hype the s6 and g4 but please state facts and not just opinion. There's no way the s6 that even has a Sony sensor will match what a Sony compact camera can do in levels of detail and low light performance. If the compact camera sector as you claim is dead i guess Sony won't be making profit in their camera division.
Samson Okoro I agree that top model cameras will stick around despite smart phones but I can see lower quality ones not being available for much longer. And The guy did say that most people will use auto mode, not all. There will be plenty of people who will use it properly and a lot that will play around with that function BUT the majority of people just want to take pictures. Besides- it makes more sense to compare auto photos/videos over manual. It's more fair and won't be compromised by skill or anything
***** there have been reports saying that there are two variants of the S6. One uses the Sony sensor and they are more of this variant and another with Samsung's own proprietary sensor. Go to phone arena and see the latest comparison of images taken between the new Z5 camera and the Samsung and lg g4 and others. The Sony blows them out of the water
is it just me or does the s6 look better than the dslr? is it just Samsung and over contrasting colors or dslr is replicating color more realistically and more bland?
A kind of biased video. The reviewer isn't aware of true potentials of RX 100 & D3200. He might have said ungraded (or unedited) but both of these cams r amazing. Undoubtedly S6 & G4 r the best smartphone camera but they can never match the true potential of RX 100 & D3200. Why many photos of RX 100 & Nikon D3200 are blurred ?? have reviewer used same aperture, ISO & shutter speed in all the camera & smartphones ?? those flower's pics of RX 100 & D3200 r terribly blurred b'coz the photographer. its not camera fault. Search "35mm 1.8 + nikon d3200" & "Sony RX 100" in Google & u will know how do these cameras performs in real life.
i actually own an lg g4 and i can say this is not a good representation of how well the camera actually shoots and as far as color accuracy g4 over s6 any day but neither can compare to high end cameras there is only so much a smart phone camera can do but the g4 does come closer and you should have demonstrated the manual mode on g4 expecially in low light situations because thats where the s6 falls behind the 1.8 lens can capture and process more light even more if you adjust the shutter speed also the g4 can also focus alot better thanks to laser auto focus making it more likely to get the shot you want the first time rather than waiting on a clear focus so in my opinion the g4s camera is better than the s6 not even comparing the dslr and sony not even in the same category
Stumbled across this video as you do.. Thanks, by the way. Good effort. Can't help but be impressed by the smartphone cameras really. They're definitely improving at some rate these days. Are they better than the Sony or the Nikon? Probably not. You've been kind of brave or naive taking on this review I think. This kind of review is best left to an expert imho. Non the less, in auto mode I thought the Sony handled video better than the others and yes the G4 is very good at stills. The reason it caught my interest is that I have the Sony and have just bought a Nikon D3300. So, I'm looking forward to comparing them myself. I presently use an iPhone 5s as my phone but I'm looking at the G4 as my next. Don't you just love TH-cam 😀 cheers..
***** If you are used to comparing the phones there is a noticeable difference between the S6 and G4. It's not dramatic though. Especially with manual controls though the S6 is getting more back in the 5.1.1 update almost out. The wider aperture and laser focus with adjustable shutter speed give lg the edge on most low light shots and some room lighting. Otherwise the S6 is pretty much better. Exposure, dynamic range, refined less processed detail. And simply much better video and audio
***** It would be interesting to see a comparison of them all in lower light shots. Like evening scenery into night, indoor lighting, and then indoor night shots
When you zoom in to take a pic the smartphones are still bad quality! I own an lg g4 and when in light situations and close shots it's perfect otherwise you still need a camera!
You have no idea how to use the D3200 or RX100. None of your shots are in focus, so of course the in-focus shots from the smartphones will look better!@
an ok video, but tbh the video section was pointless, you have shot in 4k, yet produced the video in 1080p. thereby downgrading all 4k footage to 1080p.. so the video comparison is pointless. the images were all good, but some were out of focus and as such didn't give a true stable image to use as comparison. overall though, a pretty good review but a few areas need adapting for future reviews of this nature.
I don't think you gave a fair comparison to the dslr. I believe the pictures taken from the dslr could have been much better if you changed the setting to be more of the same as the g4 and s6.
captincaveman39 True, but both the G4 and S6 have a pro-mode too. The LG G4 especially has an insane pro-mode where you can change nearly every setting that is possible on an DSLR. The shutter speed on the Galaxy S6 is way faster (nearly literally twice as fast!!!) than the LG G4 though, so it's more practical for taking a clear shot of a fast moving object.
In good outdoor light of course these cameras all produce good photos. But indoors, these cell phone camera's pictures are almost unusable. The RX100 and D3200 perform much better. A few indoor shots of people would have proved this.
Gabriel Andres Cano Marin Have u seen all things from video in real? maybe S6 is just quietly oversaturated.... and maybe real scene looks like from g4, this is something what we can t compare from youtobe video.
+Yami Odymel you can adjust that using proper whitebalance..anyay,that's why i dislike canon.. i like nikon or sony more.. but in the end i choose the mirrorless camera of sony. with live EVF... it shows what will happen before the shot has been taken.. some cameras don't do that.. some cameras only shows what an eye can see but not the effect after you play with the settings on the dslr
Yami Odymel xperia lines are all crap if taken with point and shoot or superior auto.. Go manual mode and everything will be fine.. I don't really hate any smartphones, i shoot always at manual, g4, s6 and z3 have all manual modes. And i take good shots with any smartphones i tried.. Proper iso, whitebalance, exposure, metering modes, proper framing with the subject, and basic things things on how to shoot good with any device.. Apply some of techniques and it will be an amazing shot... :)
The testing logic is broken here, the smartphone cameras are for casual shooting, why use a Dslr the same way as a smartphone? The advantage of the DSLR is the choice of lenses, the better low light performance, and the ability to process raw files. The smartphones advantage is you can share images on social media easily. The point n shoot is somewhere inbetween, for those who like to upload nicer pictures on social media.
LOL, no way, i'm using the RX100 II, trust me when i say the compact camera is still way ahead of the smartphone camera, just to keep up with the current RX100 technology, one probably has to wait 2-3 iterations of smartphone flagship, so maybe wait till the year when they launch galaxy S8, that might be when one starts to question the validity of compact camera Edit: RX100 really starts to shine at night, do a comparison of night shoots
I'll say that rx100 zoom is as slow as ever. Rx100 limitation is that the footage isnt in 4k. Higher bitrate file is always good. See rx100iv footage u can see those cripsy images. Still the slow af problems is a no for me.
I wouldnt put leica as an example, but leica is special case and i cant judge it because i never used it before. But from what i know, their lens are phenomenal, their craftsmanship are excellent, they even provide support and repair for their oldest collection of cameras. That's what i think leica is good at. Back to the topic, I actually looking for a camera and this review makes me think twice if rx100iv is worth it for twice the bitrate and bigger sensor than flagship phones. Still in misery but maybe I'll research some more.
Happilicious l. the rx100 3 and 4 added some gimmicks and jack up the price, one of it is a lame viewfinder, if you are keen on the series, should go for rx100 2
because megapixles has not bin a measurement of quality since cameras passed over 5mp.....when you realise 4k video is less then a 4mp image size you soon figure how not important megapixles are. id say in this day and age 12-14mp seems to be the sweet spot unless you are doing specialist photography for uber large prints. for eg the canon 1dx 12mp....thats a £3000 body only camera the 750D is a £450 entry level camera....thats 24Mp the 1dx will smoke it in every way with half the resolution because its a better sensor and has larger pixles on it......no display currently being used will display anymore then 4mp (4k) at the moment anyway so for Internet/tv use only id snap up a modern 8mp or even a 6mp full frame if there was such a thing... if people stopped megapixel chasing maybe one day, with modern tech a 6mp full frame would be able to see in the dark ..... the reason entry level cameras have high megapixles is for one thing only.......because people "think" they are better where as people who buy pro gear know thats not the case. hope this didn't come across as troll like. Alot of people fall for the megapixel marketing rubbish and buy a 50mp cam to upload to facebooks 2mp compression lol
***** hey really great video! I just subscribed! Hoping you could just compare s6 with the dslr then another video, comparing lg g4 with the dslr. Try compare both morning and night shots and stabilisation test. You Should get more views for your video.. Haha :)
***** I have a Samsung Galaxy S6, my gfriend she has a LG G4, have you ever see the high quality of image of the LG G4, it is not over saturated as Galaxy S6, have ever play any arcade game with both phones the LG G4 is faster than my Galaxy S6, the battery long lasting is better with the G4 than Galaxy S6, do you need more storage space, Galaxy S6 is short and not any slot available for it, G4 yes, Galaxy S6 is pretty but the G4 is elegant.
Liar why? I know everything about the phones but nothing about you, i can't say you are this or that. You most expose your point of view to help us to understand any aspect of them we don't know.
+Frank Donovan why u always lying the s6 has a sharper image then the lg G4 and the batter on the s6 is better then the lg G4 lg phones does not have great battery life the G4 gets hot fast it has a hard time focusing on a close image
Matt Zerbin Yeah mate, didn't you see how horizontally shaky it was? For video, even 3000 euro DSLR's have trouble keeping up with the Galaxy S6's video camera including stabalisation.
+Abhineet Kaler common bro, not everybody have stable hands. Different people have difrent amount of blood flow. Anyway that cameraman is beter than you because he is a youtuber instead of hating people in the coments. SO SHUT THE HELL UP
+Carbon Gamer I am not hating, I am just telling that why his results(that shows rx100 a bad device) are oriented this way. By the way there is nothing great about being a youtuber. There is nothing to feel proud for that.
+Abhineet Kaler ok I accept that you are not hating, but you should be proud if you are a youtuber. Being a youtuber is unique I am a youtuber myself so I now what does it feel to be a youtuber. Sorry
Hey *****! Lovin' the shots you took with our G4. Hope you continue to enjoy the G4's manual mode! Btw that cat is so cute.
LGUSAMobile You really are with the people, in Colombia LG is so bad, LG G4 still isn't avaliable

on video s6 is better, but in pictures lg g4 is better.
in direct sun light the s6 lens gets dark light of the picture but lg g4 gets a great light up coz of the f1.8 and the focus is fast with laser auto focus i prefer the lg g4 .it gets sharp raw images most of the time which i expect for a high end smart phone manual camera like DSLR camera gets

Do you use any software at all to edit these? I'm surprised at how great they really shoot video.
The point where the phone cameras takes a nose dive is when you're taking photos during the night or dimly lit indoors. Agreed. Although I love both smartphone cameras, it would be great to see them perform better in low light situations.
+iishisis also they are too slow to capture pets or babies even plus there is lot of shutter lag or lag between truly focussed pics
How do the microphones perform in loud situations like a bar with a live band. I have had issues with LG phones in the past not being able to handle this, but not other phones. Have they improved?
Wow this is a great comparison! Amazing video once again.
How do you do background blur on the LG G4 (bokeh effect) please help
It's funny how you make people believe that the smartphone pictures are sharper by crop in to 100%. Most DSLR lenses are sharpest between f/5.6 - f/8
I have a galaxy s6, the picture quality is really good, plus the big high-res screen, easy to UI and much powerful network access, I would say it's definitely better than point and shot cameras.
S6 camera is marvelous....g4 is good.... but in video recording S6 is superb(even than dslr)
By the way a nice garden and a nice cat

How much does a RX100 usually retail for now?
If you're worried on the price then buy qx100 instead.. It is the same as rx100-ii .. It's cheaper than g4 and s6 and is superior. Wayyyy superior

Awesome job!
I think the S6 was even better than the DSLR's. It's just amazing the S6 camera
S6 is a win in this comparison.
LOL, no way, i'm using the RX100 II, trust me when i say the compact camera is still way ahead of the smartphone camera, just to keep up with the current RX100 technology, one probably has to wait 2-3 iterations of smartphone flagship, so maybe wait till the year when they launch galaxy S8, that might be when one starts to question the validity of compact camera
Edit: RX100 really starts to shine at night, do a comparison of night shoots
k
+Tony Tng I agree, a point and shoot will always do better in low light vs. a smart phone camera, at least for now.
Happilicious l. the rx100 3 and 4 added some gimmicks and jack up the price, one of it is a lame viewfinder, if you are keen on the series, should go for rx100 2
The phone doesn't have a huge zoom either. you need big zoom in many shots the phone can't replace a DSLR CAM for that.
How about using a DSLR with the same amount of megapixels for a more accurate comparison.
because megapixles has not bin a measurement of quality since cameras passed over 5mp.....when you realise 4k video is less then a 4mp image size you soon figure how not important megapixles are.
id say in this day and age 12-14mp seems to be the sweet spot unless you are doing specialist photography for uber large prints.
for eg the canon 1dx 12mp....thats a £3000 body only camera
the 750D is a £450 entry level camera....thats 24Mp
the 1dx will smoke it in every way with half the resolution because its a better sensor and has larger pixles on it......no display currently being used will display anymore then 4mp (4k) at the moment anyway so for Internet/tv use only id snap up a modern 8mp or even a 6mp full frame if there was such a thing... if people stopped megapixel chasing maybe one day, with modern tech a 6mp full frame would be able to see in the dark .....
the reason entry level cameras have high megapixles is for one thing only.......because people "think" they are better where as people who buy pro gear know thats not the case.
hope this didn't come across as troll like. Alot of people fall for the megapixel marketing rubbish and buy a 50mp cam to upload to facebooks 2mp compression lol
The G4s Video Auto Focus is way faster than the S6s in this video
Another damn good video!
G4 is amazing!!
the camera on the G4 has no equal LOL
G4 wins,
contest though
I was hoping a split screen comparison
***** hey really great video! I just subscribed! Hoping you could just compare s6 with the dslr then another video, comparing lg g4 with the dslr. Try compare both morning and night shots and stabilisation test. You Should get more views for your video.. Haha :)
awesome comparison
Wow the dslr was way to blurry for my liking s6 for the win
Thanks TechWolly for the video. I am a Samsung lover, I can't discard the evident. Samsung is doing a good job, but in everything LG G4 is superior.
+Frank Donovan liar
Liar why? I know everything about the phones but nothing about you, i can't say you are this or that. You most expose your point of view to help us to understand any aspect of them we don't know.
+Frank Donovan you dont have the s6
+Frank Donovan why u always lying the s6 has a sharper image then the lg G4 and the batter on the s6 is better then the lg G4 lg phones does not have great battery life the G4 gets hot fast it has a hard time focusing on a close image
I love the G4's cat pics!! Fuckin awesome!!!
G4 nails it when it comes to video qualit.
Matt Zerbin Yeah mate, didn't you see how horizontally shaky it was? For video, even 3000 euro DSLR's have trouble keeping up with the Galaxy S6's video camera including stabalisation.
In good lighting all look very similar to me
Hahaha samsung galaxy s6 edge is the best point n shoot camera on the smartphone right now.
s6 woowow nice photo😘😘😍😍
808 PUREVIEW BETTER THAN THIS...THE SENSOR IS BEST...THE BOKEH IN VIDEO IS INSANE..
You must really like squash!
G4 any day!
hey, take pictures in low light condition. though smartphone having 1.8 or 1.9 lens, higher ISO make pictures stupid.
G4 has THE BEST camera, hands down...!!!

G4 its a lot better then DSLR
g4 does better job...
S6 is the best
Mashed potatoes with fish testies
lg is really good
poor cameraman...image stabilization helped you in smartphones. you cant get a better shot on your own
+Abhineet Kaler common bro, not everybody have stable hands.
Sorry
+Abhineet Kaler And check out my channel if you waned to.
s6 and g4 better
