I really enjoy seeing all the lovely paintings and listening to your descriptions of each work, especially now when getting out to the museum is difficult during this time.

Amazing how something as humble as a cabbage - even if highly nutrious - can become something of sublime beauty through the eyes and talent of an artist.

Wonderfully interpreted in a way that you see the painting in a new light👏🏻 Could you also see gratitude in addition to happiness in the picture? Just my two cents🇳🇴

You articulated that so well. It seems all about the different textures and contrasts. Who would think a cabbage could take centre stage? I just love it!

Sir Cedric was clearly a fine gardener, those cabbages show not a sign of aphid, snail or pigeon damage anywhere. Prize winners. :)

Glorious! Those cabbage leaves creak as they would in life. I want to dash to the kitchen and make coleslaw.
Budlia (spelling?) Butterfly Bush - I recall it from my London days. Glorious perfume, if my memory is correct. Delphinium - that languid blue - oh what an artist!

When displaying realist and surrealist pictures, one has-to get the lighting right, to sort of make the piece shine like a jewel in a treasure chest. Spotlighting is key.

Thank you so much for pointing out these glorious details. It's so wonderful to see a painting from Cedric Morris's eyes and yours. I know he would have felt "seen" by you. What a gift.

  • @johnmoody5982

I have noticed that within art genres you can have "scapes" where a natural background scene is painted in. So this is really a garden harvest-scape. Even the Mona Lisa had a background scape. I love this tecnique. Now my preference is to see it through a back window . . . I also like some hunting kill laying around the fruit and veggies. Something must be wrong with me . . . Anyway, I think the idea is to showcase what the land produced and put it on display which fits with what Mr. Mould is saying here.

The Cabbage bottom left looks like a Greyhound. If you hadn't been standing beside the painting I wouldn't have known it's actual size. When it's on its own, because its in Scale, it looks quite small. Unless the viewer is in a Gallery, Museum or Owns it, it can't be fully appreciated.
