At this very moment a Frank Gehry designed double skyscrapers are being constructed in his childhood city of Toronto. It is the tallest structures Frank has ever designed. Can't wait to see completion of these high rises in about 3 years from now or so.
His comment on Post Modern architecture directly addresses the static aspect of those buildings. The emphasis is on a fixed quantity that occupies its location, proclaiming the building as an object. Most PoMo architecture lacks the ability to engage us in a spatial sequence. One exception is the Guadalupe Plaza in San Antonio, designed by Alex Caragonne and Lee Reyna. Its critics would likely say it was non-contextual but it must be credited with creating a significant focus for a part of the city without architecture of significant presence.
Its applied art ya ding dongs. There are no theories since nothing is provable but only ideas. Only pretend man made (screwed up as much as man is capable of) complexity since art does not need to make sense
Guggenheim design was stolen from a graduate student’s thesis, Jo Schneider…it might not change who Frank is as an architect, but it is also a fact that it’s a 99% carbon copy
that's a ridiculous claim. even wasting my time looking this up it's clear that the argument is completely unfounded. if this is the case, then he also stole from my graduate thesis project way back in 1990. a ridiculous claim from someone desperately wanting attention - to the contrary, the work you mention is desperately trying to emulate previous work from Frank Gehry.
