"What Does Karen Know?" should be a semi-regular segment. That woman is adorable and her pun game is on point.
This is the second one they've done, so it seems to be semi-regular.
@@brockalbert5111 Apparently I missed the first one, but I am happy to hear it might be a regular occurrence.
You mean her "pun gun" is on target. ;-)
ha! "pun gun" --"bud-weised up" was a 360 no-scope :0)
Agreed! She is awesome! Great segment
Karen apologizing for saying “my white friends” 😂
I mean she wasn't wrong lol
To be fair, her references were also pretty white.
1:00 Karen making a reference to her closed eyes.
TheSongwritingCat Harry Potter isn’t white, it’s global/universal...maybe that skateboard thing is ‘white’ but not Harry Potter or even Dragon Tales, most kids watched both
Harry Potter is English. They are all white. Not sure how you missed that.
On average, each character of color in the entire Harry Potter film series speaks about thirty seconds. The best way this could’ve been avoided is by making at least one or two of the main characters a person of color.
Every Single Word Spoken by a Person of Color in the Entire 'Harry Potter' Film Series

'We bud-wised up!' - That's why she is a writer.
I came up with the same pun and I'm not even creative 😅
"'We bud-wised up!' - That's why she is a writer."
OMG, I thought those exact words!
Right!?....am I that sharp?...not most of the time...got grain-brain eating all these fuckin carbs😔
Right!
Thought the exact same thing, writers deserve more credit.
I love how comfortable she seems, like the way she falls back into the chair with laughter like she's at a friend's house after school.
Yeah....it's really off-putting
@@theomen6134 That's how the rest of us feel when you post comments.
@@theomen6134 you're off putting.
@@wackybrattyx awww....I'm blushing. Thanks for making my day.
@@theomen6134 Np!
Karen's cheeriness makes the segment. I love it. We need more Karen!
Karen is adorable, even if she does make me feel ancient.
They have a real talent for finding amazing writers on this show. I love Amber, Jenny, and Karen!
Managers: be careful what you wish for!!
Combine this with "What the world needs right now" (or whatever that's called) as yes, we need more Karen and content like this. With criminals in the White House and politicians lying and being politicians left right and center we need more of Karen!!!
My absolute favorite segment on this show, though "A Closer Look" is a close second.
She almost went full Potterhead, and I was so excited for it too 😂
Calida OK THAT’S GREAT KAREN THANK YOU
@@liquidstone14 😂😂😂
she sounded genuinely distressed when he called dragon tales a bad cartoon so cute
Remember when cartoons were just made to sell toys and sugary cereal? Ahh.. the good old days.
Y'all I went to go see Dragon Tales on Ice I'm old as hell
@@drumsNstuff79 That world never existed. Educational cartoons and "pure" entertainment cartoons existed alongside the GI Joe, Transformers, MASK, etc. cartoons. And they existed before the heyday of 80's commercial cartoons.
It was a trash cartoon tho. I mean, I watched it, but I didn’t look forward to it.
@@drumsNstuff79 Hey we learned stuff too through the power of PSA's. Now you know and Knowing is half the battle.
"You grew you up with iPads and stuff!"
me, another 24 year old: what? no we didn't LMAO
Seth: iPads!
me, 21: yeah no I grew up with Leapfrog
iPads existed well before 24 year old's became adults. They had iPods, MacBooks, and the internet before that. So, yes, they did "grow up" with iPads and stuff.
Me, a 36 year old, who actually had a Teddy Ruxpin as a child in the 80s and a palm pilot as a teenager... there is no way we're the same generation then. People keep saying I'm the start of millennial by the years, but if that's true, this entire segment makes no sense.
@@nippolitica yeah I believe I'm either the youngest millennial or the oldest gen z. These dumb generation markers make no sense anyway. I have as little in common with the oldest millennial as with the youngest gen z'er. They're just hype words. I don't really take them seriously. ;)
@@brockalbert5111 Steve Jobs presented the first iPad in 2010, when 24 year old's turned 15. You don't grow up with something if the first time you ever hear about it is when you're 15, you didn't grow up with it. I'm 27 and although I obviously grew up with the internet, it was mostly Limewire and MSN Messenger, far from iPads and Spotify etc.
Haha! Seth confidently promotes his writers, and the ensuing chemistry is always fun. Stretching our perspectives is a good thing!
He started as a writer, so he has a special love for writers.
Exactly! He's not intimidated by hiring and showcasing a talented crew. I love him even more, knowing he's a great boss.
I think this is just a thing more of these late night shows should embrace. Give the rest of the world a chance to see the fun and talented people you work with on the daily.
5:34: “On PBS?! Oh, so it was like a _bad_ cartoon.”
“No… Seth-uh… :(”
Karen’s genuine expression of hurt feelings when Seth belittles one of her favorite shows growing up as a kid as just one of those shows “where you like learn stuff” 😭
She'll have a show in 10 years.
It will be dope.
BuildingCenter I'll watch it!
i doubt it. shes boring.
Agreed. She's going to bring the funny wherever she goes. 👍
Eeeeeehhhhhh...neh
If the show is on TH-cam, maybe...
Hats off to Seth for continually acknowledging that he has writers on his show and that it takes a team effort to make it! You all deserve awards!
And to be paid what they are worth! WGA rules!
"It does now retroactively seem terrifying."
That's legit.
Josh B you ever see a Teddy Ruxpin without its furry covering? Now THAT’S terrifying!
Teddy Ruxpin was a delight! That is, right up until his plastic got brittle, and his mouth peices fell out of the unit. That was horrifying.
Teddy kinda scared me already then.
I also proudly love Oasis. Correct.
Urban legend question: Could you put cassettes of Iron Maiden in Teddy Ruxpin and have him sing "Number of the Beast"?
Let's not talk about when teddy ate a tape...nopesville right there.
Can I just say, I love how Seth so readily includes his writers on the show.
she's a delight!
i'm still not used to hearing comedians with this kinda soft-spoken voice and the things they say. she's perfect for this segment!
I love that jacket
That's because they're not comedians. They're just people
"It was made by Harry's dad and his three friends and--"
"Okay, thanks, that's great Karen."
I feel really weird for being in that age group where I intimately familiar with Teddy Rumxpin and Oasis, and also Dragon Tales and Harry Potter.
Don't feel weird, you're part of the glue that binds us together as one unified temporal spectrum of humanity, and not just selfish generations glaring at each other over imaginary battle lines.
@@xandercorp6175 Thank you, that was somehow really touching. :)
So you were born in late 80's. Sorry if it is wrong.
This is quickly becoming one of my favorite segments because they have such a cute chemistry
They should do "What Does Karen Know? - SNL Edition". Show her pictures of cast members and characters from Seth's time at SNL.
oh my god... that would be amazing. I bet she's picked up on a lot of things by hanging around that crowd and being in comedy though so it probably wouldn't work so cleanly
to be a writer on that show at her age, you know she's got a much larger pool of knowledge to draw from than her peers
We should protect her. She has not been jaded by the cruel cruel world.
We should revisit Karen at 30 and see how she's doing.
Shes probably just rich lol
I wonder if she’s found out about the Menendez brothers yet ...
I find myself smiling through these from beginning to end. It's oddly stress-relieving to see people so nice and happy.
i love their chemistry and how they make fun of each other without being cruel
That feeling when you realize that you only missed one of Seth's photos, but got NONE of Karen's, has consumed me.
I'm 25, and I got exactly the same score. DragonTales kind of rang a bell, but the rest didn't even seem vaguely familiar. The only Seth pic I didn't know was Spuds Mackenzie
andreimileti and WhoIam IamNot I'm 33 and Spuds McKenzie was the one that I missed too. I got so far as, "a dog to advertise beer?!" If it'd been a Clydesdale and dog, then I'd have known it was a Budweiser Superbowl commercial.
@@SuperLadyDanger I suspected it was Spuds McKenzie (as I've heard of his existence), but having never seen him I was more confused as to why Don Cherry's dog was in a pool with a beer.
superpal43 I got Dragontales but I’m sure only because I have older children. 😂😂
I'm 42, got all of Seth's, and I actually knew Karen's DragonTales one. :)
I was yelling at the screen, Seth, that's DragonTales!
Seth you fool, never interrupt a Potterhead
Did you say pothead? ‘Cos then it would be interesting.
This show needs more Karen. She's awesome! funny, genuine, this is great! go Karen !
Now I need a video where Seth very gently and lovingly explains to Karen who the Menedez brothers are after having taken her for ice cream or some other wholesome activity to soften the blow.
I'm in my thirties. Meaning, I knew only half of Seth's reference, and only half of Karen's #LostGeneration :P
I feel yeah
I'm 25 and honestly I related so hard to her! Also she needs to be protected at all costs!
I'm 27 and I literally just heard of the Menendes brothers a few days ago, and that's only because I've been watching a lot of Fresh Prince of Bel Air and they mention them several times so I googled it.
"I knew we shouldn't have let you play with the Menendez brothers!"
real stoked you mentioned this cos I had no idea who they were.
specialpatrolgroup92 look up Menendes brothers and basketball cards.. pretty wild
OMG same!! I was binge watching & googled the cultural references (because I'm from India).
specialpatrolgroup92 If it helps, I had to use deductive reasoning with that one.. Two brother in court in what looks like the 90s... The Menendez brothers!
I’m 23, and I am still convinced that photo of Oasis was Hugh Jackman.
What a moron you are
Hugh jackman and Borat 😂😂😂🤣😂🤣
I thought it was Hugh Jackman too!!! Lol
Me too!!
OMG ME TOOOOO
I almost didn't watch this because the joke "young people are dumb and old people are out of touch" is so overdone and tripe. But this wasn't that at all. They were both so nice and funny and excited to learn from each other.
Yeah you could see how excited Seth was to learn at the end when he cut her off to end the segments because she was trying to explain something
@@voidofmind
He's also a comedian, and being snide about Harry Potter nerdism was the joke at that moment.
I think a lot of Seth Meyers segments are really good at making jokes ABOUT a group of people without making fun OF the group. Some other shows could learn a thing or two
@@voidofmind He also probably had a producer telling them they were out of time so he went for the joke but also just really had to end the segment.
*trite
Now I get the Slurmz McKenzie joke from Futurama
Made me think of Suds McDuff from the Simpsons😂
I met spuds mackenzie in Chicago, getting out of a limo at the hotel. It was less exciting than one would think.
Same here
DON'T LOOK BACK IN ANGER IS WAY BETTER THAN WONDERWALL!
There, I said it.
Also, this needs to be a more regular bit. Karen is awesome.
Indeed, Wonderwall is a garbage song.
it is, and she should have one, no question.
Agree.
FACTS
The perfect song for Our Friends in the North.
She’s so genuinely happy when she gets it right! It’s adorable!
Hollywoo Stars and Celebrities: What do they know? Do they know things? Let’s find out!
@Steve Jarvis Netflix
It's like we're on a cross over episode!
@Steve Jarvis
Holly-woo is what, people who were too cheap to buy mistletoe, use to entice (or woo), strangers, & hope to kiss them, under...😁
Do we tell them?
I'm sorry, but Daniel Radcliffe is not a part of this conversation.
I love how Seth just brings out his writers for segments
I speak for everyone when I say that we love Karen and want more of her on the show!
Love the way karen says forward 6:21 karen is a great antidote for current news affairs, so cheerful and sweet
Oh god. Dragon Tales used to broadcast on Cartoon Network in India. I love this show.
I feel vindicated in that his reaction was "its on pbs? So its a bad cartoon", which is what ive been saying since i was a child
Its segments like these where Seths at his best, his seemingly improv moments always hit better than the written jokes, even though she seems like a great writer
Seth’s down to earth chemistry with everyone on the show helps make these segments awesome.
Tell Karen I love her
I know. Is she not what this Country needs right now? lol she's great. So happy and fun.
Did you mean Laura?
I'm 29,and also didn't know these things. Except Dip'n' Dots. Those things are amazing. Also LOL to Seth's reaction to the Marauder's Map! I'm dying!
Karen knows more about Oasis than I do, and I was in high school during their heyday.
srwapo hahah yeah I was like “that’s oasis but I don’t know their individual names” lolol
What I like about this segment is that it not only goes over what Karen doesn't know, but it also goes over what Seth doesn't know. It'll be too easy to make fun of a younger person for not knowing something from 80s/90s pop culture but to flip it around on Seth as well is brilliant and makes this fun instead of condescending.
as an old guy nothing annoys me more than when we pick on kids. its like, it sucked when our parents and painfully unfunny uncles did it to us, why are we repeating the cycle? if we want them to like our stuff, just show it to them respectfully. my millennial brother watched i love lucy, listened to they might be giants, played classic q*bert, and screws round programming in basic, why, because he was offered and allowed to enjoy it. he still did his generation's stuff, but he was free to look at the past without force and found things he enjoyed. same for me listening to jethro tull, E.L.O and rush. dont shame kids for liking their stuff, just say, "hey here's some stuff you also might like" and then let them pick what speaks to them
If she is 24 then shes a 1995 baby which means she did not grow up with I pads for sure
@@aa-zq2fr it's definitely more unique that you know what a palmpilot is than her not knowing. i was born in 1993 and i've never seen one before
I was born in 1972, and that was the first palm-pilot that I've ever seen. I think it was kinda a niche thing, like the Blackberry. I know what it is, but I've never seen one IRL, because I don't hang out with the crowd that used them.
Bunny1412 i remember seeing a bunch of adults have them where i lived, ig that wasnt very common lol

Does both of them know the Middle Earth map? Just wondering. Lol
That was a bit sad.
What the hell, I had no idea why she was showing some old Medieval map.
It's because Harry Potter is awful
This segment just keeps getting better 🤣🤣🤣
She’s adorable 😂!! And I’m sooo old!!! 🤣🤣🤣
She's so cute! I love her natural sunshineyness.
She's so cute, and so young too. That energy... Lol
This was so much fun to watch! Especially since she's not only utterly charming but clearly clever. Seh just has no way of knowing these things. Amazing :D
Could her hair be any shinier? ✨
She is so adorable 😭
I'm here just to say that I love Karen!!!!!! We need more Karen!!!!!!
The best thing about being an 80’s baby I am on the cusp of the older and younger generations. My daughter was born in 2001 so I end up knowing what most of these are. They’re still hysterical tho.
Smooth transition from the menendez brothers to dip n dots lol
Her laugh is adorable!
For the love of god will someone tell Karen about the Menendez Brothers!?
No, let the child hold on to her innocence a little bit longer.
No
Megan M 😂 I literally watched to the end like, he’s not going to tell her for real? 😩 But I had to in the comments sections. It was nagging at me. 😂
ikr! I was younger than 24 when it happened, I think she can handle hearing about it.
lol I am too young to remember them but I know who they are because there was an SNL skit that referenced them
Awww. Both Seth and Karen were totally dorking out. I'm now a fan of this segment. :))
The best part was when Karen knew everything about dragon tales. V Relatable 😂
She's just adorable, I love this segment
More What Does Karen Know! We should all be able to make suggestions! This segment is so much fun!
She's so innocently adorable. Lol
Hilarious and heartwarming. United we stand, with this segment. #MoreKaren 👍

Jesus. I'm 33 and this made me feel really old. The only thing I got from Karen was the Maurader's Map. But I knew all of Seth's reference points.
The best written shows on Late Night TV are Seth's and Samantha Bee's and they also have the most diverse writers.
Seth is ALWAYS such a huge supporter of his staff. Love it!
I'm 24 too and this is the first time I hear about the Menendez brothers. I just googled them. Seth was right, I'm officially jarred :(
I heard Menendez brothers for the first time by watching George Carlin's show

Never seen the jaw fall off, but I have seen it when the batteries get low and it starts talking low and deep with its eyes closed...
THAT PUN. OMG. I can see why she is on the writing team! Quick wit. :) Seth, you bringing her back for another segment has got me karen about her a lot. Hope to see her again. xx
I'm 30 and I barely knew any of this stuff.
I recognised Oasis, the wave board and I know of the Marauder's Map, but as someone born outside the Anglosphere, the rest just never made it across the pond.
Now you know where the Suds McDuff and Duff McShark references in the Simpsons came from.
