Which visa do you need to work with a limited license?

Usually, these community health centers in Massachusetts would want you to be in the US legally already. It's too much effort for them to have to arrange your visa as well......since they have hundreds of people seeking these positions they will simply choose someone who is already in the US.

Hi..Is the limited dental license applicable only for community health care centers?
Is it not valid for working as an associate dentist in private sector?

Ho Maria, I guess you already find by now a dentist to supervise you for 3 years. In such case, how do we search for such dentist to help us?

how did you get the limited license? did you enroll in a CODA approved program without attending the international program? what is the process to start working for a foreign dentist?

    • @rpnalliah9799

There are 2 kinds of limited license - firstly, a training limited license which is for individuals enrolled in an advanced training program at a CODA approved dental school. The second is for foreign trained dentists who are serving as faculty. Some details of the two licenses are slightly different but they are more or less the same - you can practice dentistry in the academic institution (or, in Massachusetts, the community health center) you are employed (or studying) in.

Thanks for your answer. i am planning for two states, Massachusetts and New York and they didn't tell me about the license you mentioned above. They briefly said that i either have to go for the International programs or enroll in a CODA approved program or a residency program. By doing the international program there won't be any problems with the license part, but by enrolling in a CODA approved program or even a residency program i will always be eligible for a limited license not a full one

But this varies by state. In MA I know that doing a CODA approved specialty will not allow you to gain full licensure if you have a foreign DDS/DMD/BDS/BDSc. However, several states (especially in MidWest) accept a CODA approved specialty on face value and can grant full, unrestricted licensure.

how can i get more info on the states that grant full licensure after attending the CODA approved programs? i checked out the ADA website and the licensure procedure but it's not clear. and i contacted several universities in the MidWest and they don't know about licensure.
